Part of #2599 (item 1, the Android half). Items 2 and 3 already landed: #2759 and #2868 put the PC's name in both pairing offers, and #2605 moved the file path out of app.ovis.sh requests.

Problem

A relay pairing link (https://app.ovis.sh/s/<server_id>/#offer=...) tapped outside the app, in a message or read from the PC's QR code by the phone's camera, opens in the browser as the hosted web app. The Android app never sees it, because its manifest declares no VIEW filter for https://app.ovis.sh/s/ and app.ovis.sh serves no /.well-known/assetlinks.json.

Change

  • Hosted shell (scripts/shell-build.ts): dist-shell/ now carries /.well-known/assetlinks.json and /.well-known/apple-app-site-association, sent as application/json (_headers). The asset links name sh.ovis.app with two certificates: Google Play's app signing key (copied from Play Console, App integrity, which signs every copy Play installs) and the upload key (read from the certificate in the uploaded 1.0 (4) bundle, which signs a release build installed by hand). The Apple file names 5987KT43TJ.sh.ovis.app for /s/* only. The front page / stays the web app's.
  • Android manifest: an autoVerify intent-filter for https://app.ovis.sh with path prefix /s/.
  • MainActivity: only a link to a PC's scope (/s/<32 hex>/, port 443 or none) is taken (PCStore.appLink); any other page of app.ovis.sh leaves the open page alone. A link to pair from (the scope alone or with its #offer=) is taken out of its intent, kept in memory (PCStore.link) and shows the connect screen, both at a cold start and while a PC is open (onNewIntent starts the activity again, as Change PC does). A view of a PC (a file's #read=, a pane's #pane=, an older ?pane=) opens that PC at that view when the app has it saved, as the browser did, and otherwise leaves the open page alone. A link the system hands back when the activity is restored or started from Recents is not opened again.
  • HerdrShellPlugin.takeLink: hands the pending link out once, and never in an activity that shows a PC: a PC's page has the bridge too and must not take another PC's pairing link.
  • Connect screen (app/web/connect.js): on Android it takes the link once (HerdrShell.takeLink), fills the address field with it and opens it through the same open() as a scanned QR code, so relayLink() checks the offer the same way and shows the same errors.

The link is opened without another tap, as a scanned QR code is: tapping it is the user's action, and the hosted web app already pairs from the same link in the browser.

What needs a new native build, and what does not

  • No native build: the two .well-known files. They go live when a release deploys the hosted shell (release.yml deploys dist-shell to Pages; Wrangler uploads .well-known/, its ignore list covers only _worker.js, _redirects, _headers, _routes.json, functions and VCS folders).
  • Android build: the intent-filter, MainActivity, HerdrShellPlugin.takeLink and connect.js ship in the app's bundle, so they reach users with the next Play build. Android verifies the link at install, so the order of the two does not matter: until both are out, such links keep opening in the browser.
  • iOS (not in this PR): the Associated Domains capability (applinks:app.ovis.sh) has to be turned on for the App ID in the Apple developer account first; adding the entitlement before that would break the next iOS build's signing. After that, the entitlement and a handler in SceneDelegate/HerdrBridgeViewController follow this same path. The apple-app-site-association file served here is what that step needs, so Native apps: open app.ovis.sh pairing links in the app, name relay PCs, keep file paths out of app.ovis.sh requests #2599 stays open for it.

Validation

  • bun test scripts/shell-build.test.ts: the new tests failed on origin/main (Export named 'ANDROID_APP_FINGERPRINTS' not found) and pass now (17 pass). They check both files against the Android manifest's filter and app/capacitor.config.json's id.
  • ./gradlew :app:testDebugUnitTest (JDK 21): PCStoreTest 19 pass, 0 fail. The first version of the new link test failed (1 of 18) with the host check removed.
  • ./gradlew :app:assembleDebug, then the APK on an Android 15 (API 35) emulator. pm get-app-links sh.ovis.app lists app.ovis.sh (state none: the live app.ovis.sh has no asset links yet, and a debug key is not in them). The domain was then allowed with pm set-app-links-user-selection, which stands in for verification, and links were sent with am start -a VIEW -c BROWSABLE -d <link> and no package:
    • A. App not running, link with an offer named "Lane QA PC": the app started cold on https://app.ovis.sh/s/0123…cdef/ (read from the WebView's DevTools), and the connect screen later listed it as "Lane QA PC (app.ovis.sh)".
    • B. That PC open, link whose offer names another PC: the app went to the connect screen with the link in the address field and "This pairing link is damaged or names another PC" (screenshot below).
    • C. Same link sent with FLAG_ACTIVITY_LAUNCHED_FROM_HISTORY (as Recents does): not opened, the app stayed on the PC it had open.
    • D. Control for C, the link without the flag: opened that second PC with its offer.
    • After the review round, on the rebuilt APK: G. a file link (#read=%2Fhome%2Fa.md&machine=local) of the saved PC, sent from the connect screen, opened that PC at …/#read=%2Fhome%2Fa.md&machine=local. H. a pane link of a PC the app does not have, sent while G was open, left G's page as it was. A and B behaved as before.
  • bun run check fast: all steps ok on 8ee5bae, the review fixes with origin/main merged in (unit: 12621 pass, 0 fail, 50 skip).
  • Skipped: browser regressions (no client component changed), a real pairing through a live relay (the offers above name no running PC; pairing itself is unchanged and already covered for scanned links), iOS (not changed).
B: running app, bad link (the PC from A listed under its offer's name) A: cold start, the app opened the PC's page on app.ovis.sh

Review round (omo + Codex Terra xhigh at 73d8e8a)

  • Fixed, HIGH (Codex): a PC's page could call takeLink and race the connect screen for another PC's pairing link. takeLink now answers only in an activity that shows no PC.
  • Fixed, MEDIUM (omo, Codex): a file or pane link of the hosted shell was taken and failed on the connect screen as "not a PC", closing the open PC. Such a view now opens a saved PC at that view, and is otherwise left alone.
  • Fixed, MEDIUM (Codex): a malformed /s/... link closed the open page before the connect screen rejected it. Only /s/<32 hex>/ links are taken now. A pairing link with a damaged offer still goes to the connect screen and shows its error, as a scanned one does.
  • Fixed, LOW (omo): :443 is accepted like no port.
  • Not changed, LOW (omo): the Caddy mirror sends no JSON type for /.well-known/*; only app.ovis.sh is in the app's link, the mirror is never asked.
  • Not changed, LOW (omo): another app on the phone can send the app a pairing link, as it can open one in the browser today; the pairing then asks for what the offer would ask for in the browser.

Serve /.well-known/assetlinks.json (Play app signing and upload certificates)
and apple-app-site-association from the hosted shell, add a verified
https://app.ovis.sh/s/ intent-filter to the Android app, and hand such a
link to the connect screen, which opens it as a scanned QR code.

Part of #2599.

Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Android links to hosted-shell pairing pages can open directly in the app, taking users to the connect screen. This supports links tapped in messages and links scanned from a PC’s QR code, once Android verifies the links.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the native app guide with Android link-handling details, including that unverified links continue to open in the browser. The iOS app does not yet handle these links.

The shell build publishes Android and iOS association files for hosted-shell paths. Android recognizes verified links under /s/, stores fresh links for one-time consumption, and opens them through the connect screen.

Changes: Android hosted-shell pairing links

Layer / File(s) Summary
Generate app-link association files
scripts/shell-build.ts, scripts/shell-build.test.ts
The shell build emits Android Digital Asset Links and an iOS association file for /s/*, sets JSON content types, and creates output directories. Tests check the association data and Android manifest path.
Recognize hosted-shell links
app/android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml, app/android/app/src/main/java/sh/ovis/app/PCStore.java, app/android/app/src/test/java/sh/ovis/app/PCStoreTest.java, scripts/shell-build.test.ts
The manifest declares a verified HTTPS link filter. PCStore.appLink accepts matching VIEW links and rejects other schemes, hosts, ports, and paths. Tests cover these conditions.
Consume links in the connect screen
app/android/app/src/main/java/sh/ovis/app/MainActivity.java, app/android/app/src/main/java/sh/ovis/app/HerdrShellPlugin.java, app/web/connect.js, docs/native-app.md, changelog.d/android-app-opens-pairing-links.md
MainActivity stores fresh links and excludes links restored from Recents. The plugin returns and clears a pending link, which the Android connect page opens. Documentation and the changelog describe this behavior.

…k from PC pages

Review round for #3130:
- takeLink answers nothing in an activity that shows a PC, whose page has the
  bridge too, so a PC page cannot take another PC's pairing link.
- Only a link to a PC's scope (/s/<32 hex>/, port 443 or none) is taken; any
  other page of app.ovis.sh leaves the open page alone.
- A view of a PC (#read=, #pane=, ?pane=) opens that PC at that view when the
  app has it saved instead of failing on the connect screen; otherwise the
  open page stays.

Re-review at 8ee5bae (omo with Codex Terra xhigh): CLEAR, no HIGH. This was the one fix round; what is left is recorded here and not changed in this PR.

  • MEDIUM, not reproduced on a device: once assetlinks.json is live and a build with this link is installed, a file or pane link (#read=, #pane=, ?pane=) of a PC the app has not saved (for example one paired only in the phone's browser) brings the app to the front and leaves its open page, where today it opens in the browser. Handing such a link back to a browser needs a browser-only intent selector or a Custom Tab, which behaves differently across devices, so this PR leaves the open page alone instead (documented in docs/native-app.md). Such links come only from the hosted web app's own pages, so it needs a phone that uses both the browser and the app for the same PC.
  • LOW, reproduced in Java: a view link written with :443 opens the saved PC at its scope, without the file or pane (startPath compares origins with the port). A pairing link with :443 is unaffected.
  • LOW: the activity-level decisions (takeAppLink/openAppLink, takeLink refusing while a PC is shown) have no JVM test; they were checked on the emulator (cases A-D, G, H in the description).
  • LOW (note): another app on the phone can send the app a pairing link without a scan, as it can open one in the browser today; the hosted shell still checks the offer in full.

CodeRabbit's two threads were answered and resolved (one fixed in f0d082d, one kept by design). CodeRabbit skipped its incremental review of the merge head.

Merge note (merge pass) at head 8ee5bae:

  • omo + Codex Terra xhigh re-review CLEAR at this head: the HIGH where a PC page could take another PC's pairing link is fixed. Unresolved review threads: 0 (GraphQL). CodeRabbit skipped this PR, so no CodeRabbit review ran; gated on the two reviewers and the checks.
  • It touches the Android app and the hosted shell, so it merges on GitHub's required checks, not the local gate. All are green on this head. Browser regression (ui-regression) failed three times in ui-contexts-regression, each time at a different step (mobile-tabs navigation abort, a notification-view xterm page error, a 600 s timeout under load), then passed on attempt 4. The same notification-view error also showed in an unrelated PR's gate today.
  • Part of Native apps: open app.ovis.sh pairing links in the app, name relay PCs, keep file paths out of app.ovis.sh requests #2599: the Android half. iOS waits for Associated Domains.

…er reflow with no scrollback (#3140)

## Problem

Browser regressions on unrelated PRs (#3130 twice on GitHub, #3133 once
locally) failed with the page error `Cannot set properties of undefined
(setting 'isWrapped')`, first seen in
`scripts/notification-view-regression.ts` (the pane split, then the
agent pane closing, resizes the terminal).

## Cause

Two bugs in xterm 6.0.0 itself, both still on xterm's `master`:

1. `Buffer._reflowSmaller`: when a narrower width wraps rows and the
cursor's row is pushed to the bottom, the `ybase === 0` branch raises
`ybase` with no bound. The other branch keeps `ybase` under
`min(maxLength, length + inserted) - rows`; this one does not. With
Ovis's `scrollback: 0` (`maxLength === rows`), `ybase` becomes 1 on a
buffer of exactly `rows` lines, so the cursor's row `ybase + y` is past
the buffer's end. Writes there land on the top row (the circular list
wraps around), and after the next taller resize the row is `undefined`,
so `lineFeed` or `print` throws on `.isWrapped`. Reproduced with `bun
test`: 40x5 terminal with three 35-cell rows, `resize(10, 5)` leaves
`baseY + rows = 6` on a 5-line buffer; `resize(5, 8)` and a write throw.
2. `InputHandler.eraseInDisplay` case 1 (`ESC[1J` from a row's last
column) unwraps `lines.get(j + 1)`, where `j` is a screen row, not a
buffer row (`ybase` is missing). In a scrolled buffer it unwraps a
history row instead of the screen row below the cursor. From the
screen's last row it reaches past the buffer's end, which throws the
same error once the buffer keeps history (herdr-core panes,
`terminal-history`).

Not a write/dispose race: writes after `dispose()` and writes
interleaved with resizes on a sound buffer were checked and do not
throw.

## Change

`patches/@XTerm%2Fxterm@6.0.0.patch` (regenerated with `bun patch`):
- `Buffer.ts`: the `ybase === 0` branch uses the same bound as the other
branch. With no scrollback, the reflow then trims the top row instead.
- `InputHandler.ts`: `ESC[1J` unwraps `lines.get(ybase + j + 1)` only
when that row is on screen, except after a selective erase (`CSI ? 1 J`,
DECSED) that left protected cells on the cursor's row, which the next
row still continues.

## Tests

- New `src/lib/terminalReflow.test.ts` (patched xterm, as
`terminalWidths.test.ts` uses it):
- The narrower-reflow case keeps `baseY + rows <= length`, the cursor
stays on its own row, and a taller resize plus a write works. On
origin/main's patch it fails with `Expected: <= 5, Received: 6`.
- `ESC[1J` in a scrolled buffer unwraps the screen row below the cursor.
On main it fails with `isWrapped` still `true`.
- `ESC[1J` from the last row does not throw. On main it throws the
`isWrapped` TypeError.
- `ESC[?1J` over a protected row keeps the next row wrapped (failed on
this PR's first head; found by the Codex review).
- `ESC[?1J` over a row with nothing protected unwraps the next row
(failed on the second head; found by CodeRabbit).
- A throwaway grid (every pair of 14 resizes and scrollback changes
around 19 control sequences, starting from the broken state) threw 7
distinct `undefined` errors on main and none with this patch.
- The notification-view step looped 30 times on the host passed every
time, so the browser loop does not reproduce the flake reliably. The
unit tests above are the deterministic reproduction.

## Validation

- `bun run check fast` at this head (run on old-desktop through the
heavy runner): ok, 12643 unit tests passing.
- `bun test src/lib/terminalReflow.test.ts
src/lib/terminalWidths.test.ts src/lib/ghostty/
scripts/xterm-composition.test.ts src/lib/terminalFileLinks.test.ts
src/lib/inputRow.test.ts`: 155 pass at this head.
- `scripts/ui-contexts-regression.ts` in the CI runner image
(`herdr-ci-runner:local`, on old-desktop): exit 0, 121 PASS lines,
notification-view included (first head; the later commits change only
`ESC[?1J`, which these scripts do not send).
- Not run: the full integration and browser suites (CI runs them).

## Reviews

- omo (`dori review`) on the first head `95a7edd0`: CLEAR. On the final
head `a305d475`: CLEAR.
- Codex (Terra, xhigh): no regression from the reflow bound. It compared
20,000 generated resize cases against the pre-PR code, scrollback > 0
included; contents, cursor, markers and saved positions matched, and the
only difference was the intended viewport correction. One MEDIUM was
reproduced and fixed in the second commit: a selective erase above
(DECSED) unwrapped the next row although protected cells survived.
- Left as is, not changed by this PR: a marker can point to a stale row
after a narrower reflow with no scrollback (Codex reproduced the same
result before this PR). On a random resize fuzz, the unpatched xterm
leaves `baseY + rows > length` 48 times and this patch leaves it 0
times. Cursor, marker and savedY counts stay at the same level as
upstream.
- CodeRabbit on the second head: one Minor (a selective erase that
leaves the cursor's row empty must still unwrap the next row), fixed in
the third commit.

…m an open block in terminal-sync-output (#3142)

## What it changes

`scripts/terminal-sync-output-regression.ts` failed on `main` (CI run
for 74976f2, twice; #3130's first attempt too) with `1 of 63 renders
were drawn inside an open block`.

The render it counts is not a torn one. In every failing run the flagged
render shows the frame that was already on screen, unchanged: the first
Hangul frame (n=43), redrawn while the next frame's block is open.
libghostty's overlay redraws the rows it shows when a late font face
loads (`followLateFaces` -> `redrawRows` in
`src/lib/ghostty/overlay.ts`), which for the Korean frames happens at
the first Hangul glyph, whenever the face arrives. The tap judged "torn"
from the last `pty-ack` only, so that restyle counted when it landed
during the next block.

Timeline from a failing run's `SYNC_OUTPUT_REPORT` (old-desktop,
`herdr-ci-runner:local`):

```
render 52  frame 43  (block closed, acked)
msg 4437834 opens frame 44's block  -> ack
msg 4441929 / 4468043 / 4478283 (block still open)
render 53  frame 43  torn=true   <- same text as render 52
acks ..., then the close, render 54 frame 44
```

The tap now counts a render as drawn inside an open block only when its
text differs from the text already shown. Every cell changes from one
frame to the next in this script, so a frame drawn from inside a block
can never come out as the text already on screen; the stall check
(STALLMARK) and the open-block frame still change the text, so they are
still caught. The mixed-frame assertion and every other assertion are
unchanged. No product code changes.

## Validation

All in `herdr-ci-runner:local` on old-desktop, each run a fresh herdr
test session via `bun run check run`:

- `origin/main` 03cb0e6: failed 7 of 10 without a CPU limit (other test
containers running beside it) and 5 of 8 with the container limited to 2
CPUs, each time `1 of 63 renders were drawn inside an open block`.
- this branch: 15 of 15 pass with the container limited to 2 CPUs.
- `bun run check fast` (old-desktop via the heavy runner): green (unit
12640 pass, 0 fail; typecheck, build, generated files, workflow syntax
ok).
- Skipped: integration suite and the other browser scripts (only this
script's tap changed).

…ing (#3188)

## Summary

`scripts/mobile-tabs-regression.ts:164` failed in the ui-contexts
browser lane on PRs that do not touch it
(`goto: net::ERR_ABORTED at /?pane=wC%3Ap8`; #3130, #3172, #3157 twice).
All three failures ran on
the same group of self-hosted runners.

**Cause.** A phone bottom sheet is a history entry. When it closes,
`leaveSheet` in
`src/lib/sheetHistory.ts` steps back off that entry with
`history.back()` a task later. The check closed
the More sheet with Cancel, waited only for the sheet to leave the DOM,
and then called `page.goto`. When
the sheet's same-document `history.back()` lands after the goto has
started (late on a loaded runner),
Chrome aborts the goto with `net::ERR_ABORTED`. The app's behaviour is
intended (Back must not go to the
pane before the sheet); the check did not wait for it.

**Fix (test only).** A `cancelSheet` helper taps Cancel, waits for the
sheet to detach, and then waits
(bounded, 5 s) until `history.state` no longer carries the sheet's
`ovis:sheet` entry, the state the step
back leaves. Navigating after that cannot race the traversal. Both
Cancel sites in the check use it. No
sleeps, no retries.

## Validation

- Logged history calls in the check: More > Cancel calls
`history.back()` and its `popstate` lands only
~9 ms before the goto's request on this PC. That step back is the only
navigation between the two.
- Reproduced naturally in `herdr-ci-runner:local` by looping only this
check: original
**1 failure in 155 runs**, with exactly the CI error (`goto:
net::ERR_ABORTED ... ?pane=...p8`).
- Forced the race (scratch harness, not committed: the sheet's back step
20 ms late, document responses
400 ms slow, service worker blocked): original **20/20 failed** with the
CI error; this branch
  **0/50**.
- Natural runs of this branch in the runner image: **0/50**.
- `bun run check fast`: pass (typecheck, build, unit 12723 pass / 0
fail).
