fix(app): follow a pane moved elsewhere to its new ID with its state - #2784
Fixes#1503 (browser half; the server half merged in #2780).
Problem
A pane moved to another workspace from outside the browser (herdr's own window, herdr pane move <pane> --new-tab --workspace <id>, another browser or device) gets a new ID. Since #2780 the server tells clients pane-moved { from, to }, but no browser acted on it: the half showing the pane fell back or closed, and everything kept under the old ID (draft, held terminal input, lens, reply comments, pending-message rows, sidebar pin, chat position, read finishes) stayed where nothing shows it.
Change
src/lib/useMachineRoster.ts: a pane-moved machine message (local or remote PC) calls App's followPaneMove(machineId, from, to), before that move's session-changed.
src/App.tsx: followPaneMove is the one path for a move: the feat(tabs): move a one-pane tab to another workspace #1427 "Move to workspace…" action now uses it too. It carries the pane's state (carryMovedPane), takes either half of a split showing the old ID to the new one, and the selection with it; a pane the user went to meanwhile stays theirs (movedView).
pending-message rows (PendingMessageStore.move): rows go as they are, with the live connection's proof so the server's receipt under the new ID settles them; a row whose send this page has on its way stays under the old ID, where its answer looks for it. Nothing is sent.
sidebar pin (movedSidebarPins), in place, on its own PC only; shared with other browsers by the existing pin sync.
chat position (moveChatPosition).
Running it twice for one move (every tab hears it; the moving tab also from its own request) finds nothing left the second time.
Read finishes move on the server (server/seen.tsmoved, wired in server/index.ts): at pane_moved the server's own read records go to the new ID and every browser is told by the existing seen events, also when no browser saw the move; a remote PC's move is handled from its pane-moved machine message.
server/finishes.ts / server/core/status.ts: the finish counter goes on under the new ID, so a finish read under the old ID keeps its number. When herdr reused the new ID, the count goes above the earlier pane's and the moved pane's latest finish (and a read of it) takes the next number. A status the old ID still reports after the move (a late event) counts for the moved pane.
No new WS or HTTP contract: the pane-moved frame is from #2780; POST /api/seen is unchanged. No visual change.
Validation
Failing first (each failed on main and passes now):
browser: new case in scripts/split-view-regression.ts on the isolated test herdr: a TUI-style pane.move of the left half's pane; the half follows it to the new ID, the split stays, the typed draft and the lens are under the new ID. With the pane-moved dispatch disabled it times out waiting for the half to follow; with it, the whole split-view regression passes (23 PASS).
bun run check fast: ok (typecheck, build, unit 11207 pass / 0 fail).
Skipped locally: check full (integration and browser run in CI).
…1503)
Browsers act on the server's pane-moved: the selection and either split half follow the pane, and its draft, held terminal input, lens, reply comments, pending rows, sidebar pin, chat position and read finishes go to the new ID. The server keeps the pane's finish count under the new ID so read marks line up.

Bug Fixes
Panes moved to another workspace or browser now retain their selection and split placement, along with related sidebar pins, chat position, and finish status.
Pending messages and drafts follow the moved pane. Messages that are still being sent remain associated with the original pane, and held content is not sent automatically.
Tests
Added regression coverage for pane moves and preservation of pane state.
When a pane receives a new ID, the server transfers its finish tracking and the browser migrates associated pane state. The client follows matching selection and split references when it receives a pane-moved event. The workspace move action uses the same client handling path.

Summary
Transfer server finish tracking server/finishes.ts, server/core/status.ts, server/finishes.test.ts
The server transfers tracked finish state to the new pane ID before broadcasting the move. Tests cover repeated finish statuses and later transitions.
Helpers move pane-keyed chat positions, pending messages, seen finishes, and sidebar pins. The pane-move helpers combine those transfers and update matching selection and split references. Tests cover transfer behavior and cases where state remains at the old ID.
The roster callback delegates pane moves to shared client handling. That handler migrates state, shares moved finishes, and updates matching view references. The workspace move action uses the same handler. The regression test checks split state, draft and lens transfer, and clearing the old draft ID. The changelog describes the behavior and held content remaining unsent until sent or discarded.
devswha/ovis#1158 — This change updates matching split references when a pane receives a new ID, but does not implement the proposed multi-slot or multi-window layout.

Pane following improves live workspace moves, but edge cases can leave incorrect unread indicators or hide a failed held resend from the moved pane. Mergeable with explicit owner acceptance of these bounded issues; fixing them first is preferable.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's two sections, Change and Validation. The Change section explains the problem (a pane moved from outside the browser gets a new ID and browser state stays under the old ID) and lists the changes per file. The Validation section lists the failing-first unit and browser tests, the passing bun run check fast run (typecheck, build, unit), and the skipped check full. The description is thorough. It does not state whether the Change section links the issue with maintainer agreement; it references #1503 and #2780, which satisfies the template's link guidance for a feature/fix in practice. The validation counts differ slightly from the objectives (the description says 11207 unit passes, the objectives say 11,203) and the server test list in the description (server/seen.test.ts) is not in the raw summary, but these are minor consistency points, not missing required content.

Explanation
For [#1503], the reviewed changes support the browser requirements. useMachineRoster forwards pane-moved; followPaneMove and carryMovedPane migrate pane state; movedView preserves selection and split placement. The added tests cover pending messages, pins, chat position, read finishes, and split state. Head evidence also shows server/collector.ts parsing pane_moved and server/core/terminals.ts retiring the old attachment before the new ID attaches. The issue also names server remapping for queued or held messages and conversation watchers. The available read of server/core/pending.ts was truncated, and no focused evidence establishes those two server behaviors.
Resolution
Provide focused, reviewable evidence from the reviewed head for the server-side queued or held message remap and conversation-watcher remap. Without that evidence, the full [#1503] coding requirement cannot be decided.

…ne move (#1503)
Review round 1: a moved row is not brought back by the server's later old-ID list, a row settled under the new ID is not carried, a row whose send was on its way follows when it ends; the server moves its read finishes itself (renumbered when herdr reused the new ID) and counts a late old-ID status as the moved pane's, so no browser has to carry them.

Move the unseen finish with the pane.
onPaneMoved moves only finishes. The unseen done state in CompletionTracker.finished stays under the old ID. The next snapshot drops that ID, so the moved pane reads idle instead of done. This behavior predates this PR.

src/lib/paneMove.ts:73-80 Minor · Functional Correctness · Heavy lift
Keep draft and read-finish state with a pane moved while the browser was disconnected.
A browser that is disconnected when herdr moves a pane never receives pane-moved. Reconnection requests no replay, and the server sends no missed moves. The roster after reconnect shows only the new pane ID, so nothing maps the old ID to the new one. The unsent draft and the read finishes stay under the old ID, and no path reads them under the new ID. The sidebar pin is pruned rather than kept. The selection or split half that showed the old ID is not moved by this path.
No specific patch is supported here. A fix needs the browser to learn the old-to-new mapping after reconnect, which would require a server replay or an identity change in the snapshot. Both are outside the inspected browser code.

carryMovedPane only migrates pane state when the browser knows the old-to-new

…ed moves (#1503)
Review round 2: a row whose send was on its way follows the pane across two moves, a move back to an earlier ID hears the server there again, only a receipt of the row's own connection (or an exact resumed one) keeps it from being carried, a late old-ID status reaches the newest ID, and a read record that cannot be written no longer stops the rest of the move.
Reviewers: omo (dori review) and Codex (gpt-6.1-terra, xhigh): Codex two rounds, omo at each head (CLEAR at 74b8376 and 580c6cb).
Round 1 (head 74b8376), fixed in 580c6cb, each with a failing-first test:
HIGH (Codex, reproduced): rows moved before the server's held list for the old ID came back under the old ID. The store now remembers rows moved off an ID and takes no later list there for them.
HIGH (Codex, reproduced at store level): a row already settled under the new ID was carried there again. Settled rows are not carried.
MEDIUM (Codex, omo): a row whose send was in flight stayed under the old ID. It follows once the send ends.
MEDIUM (Codex): reads were lost when no browser saw the move, and a reused new ID made a read finish unread. The server now moves its own read records at pane_moved (SeenStore.moved) and tells every browser; when herdr reused the new ID the count goes above the earlier pane's and the read of the moved pane's latest finish takes that number. The browser no longer carries or posts read marks.
MEDIUM (omo): a late old-ID working could make the new ID's next finish reuse the old number (and look read). A status the old ID still reports after the move now counts for the moved pane.
Round 2 (head 580c6cb), fixed in b5927ee with failing-first tests:
HIGH (Codex) hardened: a removal receipt under the new ID now keeps a moved row from being carried only when it is the row's own connection's receipt or an exact resumed one, the same rule publish settles by. (Message IDs are server UUIDs, so such a receipt already meant the row was settled; the carried copy stays a saved copy whose resend the server answers from its retained outcome.)
MEDIUM (Codex, omo): a row in flight across two moves landed under the middle ID; it now follows to the last.
MEDIUM (Codex): a pane moved back to an ID it left ignored the server's lists there; it hears them again.
MEDIUM (Codex, omo): a read record that could not be written (unwritable state dir) threw out of the move handler, skipping the broadcast and the server's own move; it is now caught and logged.
MEDIUM -> LOW (omo): after two quick moves a late old-ID status reached the middle ID; it now reaches the newest.
Left as follow-ups (not regressions; main shows the same or worse):
A remote PC whose herdr reused the new ID: the connection server copies the reads unrenumbered (the bridge renumbers its own count), so that finish shows unread once. The local PC is renumbered.
The late old-ID status forwarding ends once the new ID reports a status of its own, and a reused old ID's first status before that also reaches the new ID (an extra unread finish at worst, never a hidden one).
Validation at b5927ee: bun run check fast ok (unit 11211 pass / 0 fail). Split-view browser regression (23 PASS, including the new outside-move case) ran at 580c6cb; this round changed no browser path it covers.
omo at b5927ee: CLEAR. Two more follow-ups noted there, neither a regression:
A chat draft whose send is on its way at the move (ComposerDraftStore.move leaves it under the old ID, as feat(tabs): move a one-pane tab to another workspace #1427's own move always has): text typed meanwhile is not carried once that send ends. Pending rows follow after their send (afterSend); drafts could do the same.
A late done still told under the old ID after the move counts on the old ID only (harmless: that ID is shown nowhere).
The remote-PC renumbering gap is already listed above.
Merge note: merged on the omo review (CLEAR at de3ba2a after the main merge), Codex Terra (2 rounds; HIGHs and reproduced MEDIUMs fixed with tests; non-regression follow-ups listed above) and green required checks. CodeRabbit skipped; its thread is answered and resolved.
