Fixes #1806.

Summary

  • src/lib/ws.ts: when submit waits SNAPSHOT_WAIT_MS and the bridge's snapshot still has not said what it supports (fix(ws): send nothing raw before the bridge's snapshot says what it supports #1805), it now returns its own result, capabilities_unknown, instead of not_transmitted. Nothing is sent either way.
  • src/lib/compose.ts: capabilities_unknown is listed in submitNotTyped, so the composer keeps the text as for not_transmitted. submitNote gives it its own note, "Not sent: this PC has not said yet what it supports. Send it again.", in place of "the connection dropped".
  • src/lib/i18n/composer.{ko,ja,zh}.ts: that note in Korean, Japanese and Chinese, next to the not_transmitted entry.
  • Tests: the ws.test.ts case from fix(ws): send nothing raw before the bridge's snapshot says what it supports #1805 now expects capabilities_unknown. compose.test.ts checks that it counts as nothing typed, and checks its note.
  • changelog.d/submit-snapshot-note.md.

Not changed here: src/components/PendingMessages.tsx lists the codes whose held-copy row shows submitNote. Open PR #1795 changes that file, so a held-copy resend refused this way still shows "Not sent: {message}" with the result's English message.

The three src/lib/i18n/composer.*.ts files are also changed by open PR #1714 (different entries).

Design precedent

None applies. This names the right cause in an existing not-sent note. No new UI.

Verification

  • On main the two tests fail: the send returns not_transmitted, and submitNotTyped("capabilities_unknown") is false. They pass with this change.
  • src/lib/ws.test.ts, src/lib/compose.test.ts, src/lib/machineSession.test.ts, src/conventions.test.ts: 172/172. Typecheck. bun run check fast.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Messages that cannot be sent because the PC has not yet reported its capabilities now say they were not sent and prompt you to try again, rather than suggesting the connection dropped. This message is available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.

When the bridge’s capability snapshot is still unknown after the wait, HerdrSocket.submit now returns capabilities_unknown instead of not_transmitted. The composer preserves the text and shows a cause-specific not-sent message, with Japanese, Korean, and Chinese translations. Tests and the changelog reflect the change.

Explanation

The title names the main change: a late capability snapshot now gets its own not-sent note instead of the dropped-connection wording. It is specific, single-sentence, and matches the raw summary and objectives.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description covers the Change (problem and resulting behavior via the Summary list) and Validation (test results, typecheck, and check commands). It links issue #1806 and explains the cross-PR interactions. It does not follow the template headings exactly and does not mention contract-test coverage for the WS change, which the template asks for on HTTP/WS changes.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #1806 requires a distinct result for an expired capability-snapshot wait, no transmission, composer retention, a cause-specific note with Korean, Japanese, and Chinese translations, and tests. src/lib/ws.ts returns capabilities_unknown after the wait and retains the no-send behavior. src/lib/compose.ts classifies the code in submitNotTyped and supplies its own note. The three requested translation files and the WebSocket and composer tests are updated.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changed source, tests, translations, and changelog all support the behavior requested by issue #1806. The review evidence shows no unrelated functional change. The unchanged PendingMessages.tsx and the referenced open pull requests do not add scope requirements.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 2 functions across 7 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Merge pass: review-work passed for 6a6acf8. Manual QA is 5/5 PASS, the gate review approved it with no blockers, and all checks are green.

I'm holding the merge for CodeRabbit's open thread on src/lib/ws.ts:64. The finding is real. When a held-copy resend is refused with capabilities_unknown, PendingMessages.tsx shows the raw English answer.message, so the new ko/ja/zh entries are skipped on that path.

(Correction to an earlier version of this comment: #1795 is an outside-contributor PR. The same-file rule applies only between maintainer PRs, so it doesn't keep the fix out of this PR.)

Either way works:

  • Fix it here. Add capabilities_unknown to the codes PendingMessages.tsx:80 shows through submitNote, with a test. That is a behaviour commit, so it gets another CodeRabbit review. It may also give fix(chat): keep Pi sends visible until transcript append #1795 a conflict on that line.
  • Defer it. Reply in the thread, open a follow-up issue, and resolve the thread.

Once the thread is resolved, this merges.

Merge pass: review-work report. Overall: PASSED.

Lane Verdict Confidence
Manual QA (5 rows, 5 artifacts) PASS -
Gate review, by a model other than the author's APPROVE MEDIUM

Manual QA

  1. 150 tests across ws, compose, machineSession and conventions pass.
  2. The typecheck passes.
  3. The two changed tests fail on main's ws.ts and compose.ts.
  4. The note exists in en, ko, ja and zh.
  5. Test-merging outside PR fix(prompt): support Pi rpiv question cards and safe navigation #1714 onto this head gives no conflict in the three shared i18n files. fix(prompt): support Pi rpiv question cards and safe navigation #1714's only conflict, server/prompt.ts, already exists against main.

Gate review

  • All seven requirements are achieved.
  • The reviewer traced these paths and found no lost, duplicated or automatically replayed send:
    • immediate send;
    • queued and held rows;
    • a held-copy resend;
    • the terminal line;
    • a late snapshot;
    • a disconnect;
    • a legacy bridge.
  • Five transport probes:
    • Expiry sends nothing, and so does a late snapshot.
    • An explicit retry sends exactly once.
  • 22 i18n tests pass.

Notes

All required checks are green and no review thread is open.

…s_unknown resend (#1811)

Fixes #1809.

## Summary

- **Cause:** `src/components/PendingMessages.tsx` lists the error codes
whose held-copy note comes from `submitNote`. `capabilities_unknown`
(from #1808) was not in that list.
- **Symptom:** a held copy sent again before the bridge's snapshot said
what it supports showed `t("Not sent: {message}")` with the result's
English reason. A Korean, Japanese or Chinese page showed the English
sentence after its translated "Not sent:", not the note #1808
translated.
- **Fix:** add `"capabilities_unknown"` to that list, as the issue
prescribes. The row now shows "Not sent: this PC has not said yet what
it supports. Send it again." in the page's language. Send now stays, and
the row is still not marked uncertain.
- **Test:** `src/components/PendingMessages.test.tsx` renders a held row
that failed with `capabilities_unknown` in ko, ja and zh. It asserts
that the translated note is shown, that Send now stays, and that the
English reason is absent.

**No new i18n keys.** The note is already in
`src/lib/i18n/composer.{ko,ja,zh}.ts`, from #1808.

**No changelog fragment.** #1808 is not released yet (it came after
0.4.13). Before #1808 this case returned `not_transmitted`, which the
list already translates, so released users never saw the English reason.
#1808's fragment (`changelog.d/submit-snapshot-note.md`) already
describes the corrected note.

**Overlap:** open PR #1795 edits line 79 of `PendingMessages.tsx`, right
above the changed line 80, and also edits the test file. A rebase there
may need a small manual merge.

**Not changed (follow-up note from the gate review):**
- `agent_blocked`, `read_only`, `submit_timeout` and
`pending_input_unsupported` also have their own `submitNote` texts.
- On a held row they still show the result's own reason after "Not
sent:". The existing test "keeps the server's reason for other refusals"
pins that for `agent_blocked`.
- Whether they should change is a separate decision, so this PR leaves
them as they are.

## Design precedent

None applies. This shows an existing translated note in one more case.
There is no new UI.

## Verification

- **On main, the new test fails:** the Korean page shows `보내지 않음: this
PC has not said yet what it supports; nothing was sent`, not the
translated note.
- **With the change:**
- `src/components/PendingMessages.test.tsx`, `src/lib/compose.test.ts`
and `src/conventions.test.ts` give 64 pass;
  - `bun run check fast` passes: 6331 pass, 0 fail.
- **Not run in a browser.** No existing script can hold back the
bridge's snapshot after a reconnect. The test renders the real component
with the real translations.
- **Gate review (omo-native-gate-reviewer): APPROVE.** It reproduced the
tests and checked that `agent` still reaches `submitNote`.

…on herdr (#2257) (#2268)

Closes #2257

## Problem
A send from Chat right after a reconnect failed with "Not sent: this PC
has not said yet what it supports. Send it again." whenever the
connection's first snapshot was late. The client waits 2 s for that
snapshot because it is the only frame that lists the server's features
(#1805, #1808). The guard keeps a message from being typed raw into a
bridge that takes `submit` (#1591).

`server/core/socket.ts` sends the snapshot only after `clientSnapshot()`
resolves, and that call waits on herdr's `session.snapshot` RPC (10 s
timeout), the OmO/GJC refresh and the completion tracker. When that read
fails, the connection gets only an `error` frame and never learns its
features.

Measured on this PC (details in #2257):
- An isolated server from main with 31 idle panes delivers its snapshot
within 0.25 s: cold, warm, a burst of 10, an event loop blocked 1 s
every 1.5 s, and +32 CPU burners. The socket itself is not slow.
- The maintainer's main test app, which restarts after every merge,
logged `session.snapshot timed out after 10000ms` ten seconds after a
restart. Every browser that reconnected then waited at least 10 s.
- With this change the `features` frame is the first frame of every
connection, at about 0 ms after open, in all nine scenarios.

## Change
- `shared/protocol.ts`: a new server frame, `{ type: "features";
features; connection; herdr_lifetime? }`.
- `server/core/socket.ts`: `open()` sends it synchronously for a local
connection, before awaiting the snapshot. It needs no herdr call.
Features depend only on the server's version, and `herdr_lifetime` comes
from the same socket stat as the snapshot's (`server/finishes.ts`). A
relayed connection (`/ws?machine_id=`) forwards the remote PC's own
frames unchanged.
- `src/lib/ws.ts`: the client learns its features from the first trusted
`features` frame or the snapshot. The guard is unchanged: nothing is
sent until the features are known, and after 2 s without them the send
is refused `capabilities_unknown`. Watch and chat-interest replays run
once per connection. By default no `features` frame is trusted
(`trustFeatures`).
- `server/collector.ts`, `server/core/status.ts`: the frame names a
herdr only while the server's lifecycle subscription to herdr is open,
and only for the herdr whose identity was read before that connection
was attempted and still reads the same when it answers. A socket file
alone proves nothing: a herdr that crashed can leave its file behind.
- `src/lib/machineSession.ts`: trusts a `features` frame only when its
`herdr_lifetime` names the herdr this page already proved from an
earlier snapshot of that PC (`paneLifetimes.generation`). Only then do
the connection's pending scope and `connection` id open on it. The
herdr-lifetime fence still runs on the snapshot. When the frame names
another herdr, or none (a replaced or unproven herdr, or a first page
load), the page waits for the snapshot as before, so no send leaves for
a pane ID a replaced herdr may have given out again.

The common case, a server restart in front of the same herdr, gets the
early path. Older servers send no `features` frame, and their behaviour
is exactly as before. Nothing is auto-sent after a disconnect.

The design follows a capabilities handshake ahead of the state dump:
what a peer supports is told before the costly state, as in LSP's
`initialize` response or the Codex app server's initialize response. It
differs in that the early answer is used only for a herdr the page
already knows.

## Tests
Each new test fails on origin/main (or, for the trust rule, on this PR's
first commit) and passes here:
- `src/lib/ws.test.ts`:
- a send and an Insert go out once a trusted features frame came, with
the snapshot still held;
- an untrusted features frame changes nothing (`capabilities_unknown`,
nothing sent);
  - replays run once per connection.
- `server/core/socket.test.ts`: the features frame, with its connection
id and herdr lifetime, precedes a held snapshot, and is still sent when
the snapshot read fails.
- `server/collector.test.ts`: the lifecycle subscription names the herdr
that answered it until it closes, names none when the socket was
replaced between the attempt and the answer, and none after a stop.
- `server/core/status.test.ts`: the named herdr equals the snapshot's
`herdr_lifetime`, and is named only while that herdr's subscription is
open under the same socket.
- `src/lib/machineSession.test.ts`:
- a features frame naming the known herdr opens the scope, and a queued
receipt in that window stays live through the snapshot, with nothing
offered for recovery;
- one naming another herdr, or none, leaves everything to the snapshot.
- `scripts/ui-regression.ts`: on a reconnect, holds both frames and
releases only the features frame. The message is sent and shows as a
live queued row while the snapshot is still held. The full script passes
(76 checks).
- `bun run check fast`: green on the head commit (workflow syntax,
generated types and themes, typecheck, build, unit tests). WS contract
suites (submit, terminal-insert, ping, watch, secret, conversation-push)
on the isolated herdr: 117 pass, 0 fail. The full ui-regression script
also passes on the head commit (76 checks).

## Review
Adversarial reviews (omo-native-code-reviewer and Codex Sol 6.1 fast
xhigh), each on a worktree pinned to the reviewed commit:
- 953e1f0: both blocked on one root cause, rated HIGH by omo and MEDIUM
by Codex. The pending scope opened on the features frame before the
herdr-lifetime fence ran on the snapshot, so after a herdr replacement a
queued send could be both live and offered as unsent text. Fixed in
fc09eab: the frame counts only for the herdr the page already proved.
- fc09eab: Codex PASS. omo PASS with a reproduced MEDIUM: a crashed
herdr leaves its socket file behind, so the frame could name a dead
herdr. Fixed in bad1bf3: only a herdr answering on the open lifecycle
subscription is named.
- bad1bf3: omo PASS (LOWs fixed in 2568418). Codex BLOCK with a
reproduced MEDIUM: the identity was read at the acknowledgement, not
bound to the connection that answered. Fixed in 588bd5d: the identity
is read before each attempt and must be unchanged when the answer
arrives.
- 588bd5d: Codex PASS, no findings (10 of 10 adversarial liveness
cases, Unix and Windows identity readers).

Each fix came with a test that fails on the commit before it.
CodeRabbit: requested on this PR. If it skips or is rate-limited, the
findings and resolutions above stand in and are repeated in a PR
comment.

## Notes
- `REMOTE_BUNDLE_VERSION` is not raised here: per docs/development.md
the release PR raises it for server and shared changes.
- LOW, not fixed:
- Windows (argued, not run on the VM): herdr's identity there is its
`pid:start` marker. If a replacement herdr answered on its pipe before
rewriting that marker, the frame would name the old herdr for that
window, as the snapshot already does on main, since both read the same
marker. Once the marker is rewritten, the frame names no herdr until the
next resubscribe, and pages wait for the snapshot.
- The server's remote-PC observer (`server/machines.ts` observe)
forwards the new frame to every browser's `/api/machines/events` stream,
like `role-ack`. There it cancels one roster poll in flight per
reconnect, and the roster ignores it otherwise.
- Local browser checks ran with a temp root under `/tmp`. With the
lane's temp root under `~`, ui-regression's New-folder case failed: the
dialog shows the folder as `~/...`, while the test expects an absolute
path. That code path is not touched here, and the case passes with a
`/tmp` root.
- Contract change (WS): waits for a real review.
