Self-host: docker-exec bootstrap-selfhost-helloworld fails (Error 139) due to apply-patches.sh segfault #9040

Description

@PurHur

What happened

In this workspace, running self-host gates via ./script/docker-exec.sh:

  • make bootstrap-selfhost-link is green
  • make bootstrap-selfhost-helloworld is red (exits 139)

The failure is a segfault in script/apply-patches.sh invoked by the wrappers (script/ci-memory-env.sh / script/selfhost-preflight.sh).

Repro

./script/docker-exec.sh -- bash -lc 'make bootstrap-selfhost-helloworld'

Symptom (first failing command)

From the output:

  • ./script/selfhost-preflight.sh: line 149: ... Segmentation fault (core dumped) "${root}/script/apply-patches.sh"
  • make: *** [Makefile:355: bootstrap-selfhost-helloworld] Error 139

php script/bootstrap-inventory.php --check still reports OK but prints the same segfault lines.

Notes

This blocks the recommended maintainer “try the software first” path for #1492 when using the docker wrappers.
