refactor: one resolver for the app home directory (SUPER-2983) - #9157
First of two PRs that retire ~/.superset (Linear SUPER-2983). No change for users: the home is still ~/.superset. This makes every process find it through one function, so the move in the next PR changes one place.
What changes
resolveAppHomeDir() in @superset/agent-setup/paths replaces resolveSupersetHomeDir() and the CLI's getSupersetHomeDir().
host-service: worktrees, sessions, attachments, agent jobs, the pty-daemon manifest and socket key, the usage pointers and the per-machine project override now use it. Worktrees and sessions used to ignore SUPERSET_HOME_DIR; they now follow it, so dev-workspace builds keep their worktrees under their own home. Existing worktrees keep their stored absolute paths.
desktop: call-time code uses the resolver. The terminal-host client and daemon compute paths at module load, so they read app-environment's SUPERSET_HOME_DIR, which is set before anything else loads. The two places that read the production home on purpose use defaultAppHomeDir().
Hook and plugin templates take the directory name from APP_HOME_DIR_NAME. Rendered output is byte-identical to main (checked for all seven templates), so installed hooks are not rewritten.
Tests that wrote user-override fixtures into the real ~/.superset/projects now use a temp home.
Verified
tsc clean for agent-setup, cli, host-service, trpc and desktop (desktop's only errors are the missing generated route tree, same as main).
Tests: agent-setup, cli, host-service, desktop src/main / src/lib / src/shared. The one local failure, AgentJobRunner > deletes finished jobs after a day, fails the same way on main.

First of two PRs that retire ~/.superset (Linear SUPER-2983). No change for users: every process now resolves the app home directory through one function, resolveAppHomeDir() in @superset/agent-setup/paths, so the move in the next PR changes one place.
resolveAppHomeDir() replaces resolveSupersetHomeDir() and the CLI's getSupersetHomeDir(); new helpers expose the default dir name and path.
Worktrees and sessions now honor SUPERSET_HOME_DIR; dev-workspace builds keep worktrees under their own home, while existing worktrees keep their stored absolute paths.
Desktop terminal-host paths are read from app-environment's SUPERSET_HOME_DIR; only code that intentionally reads the production home uses defaultAppHomeDir().
Hook and plugin templates take the directory name from APP_HOME_DIR_NAME, with rendered output byte-identical to before so installed hooks are not rewritten.
Tests that wrote fixtures into the real ~/.superset/projects now use a temp app home.
Verified: tsc clean across all touched packages, and the one failing test, AgentJobRunner > deletes finished jobs after a day, fails identically on main.

Improvements
App data, settings, worktrees, sessions, terminal history, and related files now use a consistent application home directory. Existing custom directory settings continue to take precedence.
Agent integrations and host services now use the application home directory consistently when locating configuration, plugins, hooks, and host files.
Project-specific configuration remains supported from the application home directory, while existing project lookup behavior is unchanged.
The change centralizes app-home directory resolution in @superset/agent-setup/paths and updates desktop, host-service, CLI, and agent setup paths to use it. Project-configuration arguments and generated agent templates also use the shared app-home path.

Summary
Shared app-home resolution and agent paths packages/agent-setup/src/paths.ts, packages/agent-setup/src/*, packages/agent-setup/templates/*, scripts/test-preload.ts
The shared paths API now provides resolveAppHomeDir, defaultAppHomeDir, and isDefaultAppHomeDir. Agent state paths, generated templates, and related consumers use the shared helpers and app-home directory-name placeholder.
Workspace paths and project configuration apps/desktop/src/lib/trpc/routers/workspaces/utils/*, packages/host-service/src/runtime/setup/*, packages/host-service/src/runtime/teardown/*, packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/*
Workspace and project-override paths use the app-home directory. Configuration and teardown APIs accept appHomeDir; their tests use the updated argument and fixture paths.
CLI configuration, caches, manifests, and spawned-host environment use resolveAppHomeDir. The local getSupersetHomeDir helper and its re-export are removed.
Path handling and host-service compatibility issues should be resolved before merging to avoid broken sessions, test isolation, or callers.

### Issue 1
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/session-paths.ts:12
If a host already uses a custom `SUPERSET_HOME_DIR`, its existing sessions were created under `~/.superset/sessions`, while their database lived under the custom home. This change makes `isInsideSessionsRoot()` accept only the new root. Deleting an old session now skips folder removal but removes its database entry, leaving its files on disk.
Preserve safe cleanup of existing session paths when changing the default root.
### Issue 2
packages/agent-setup/src/paths.ts:23
`isDefaultAppHomeDir()` compares the untrimmed path, but `resolveAppHomeDir()` trims it. If `SUPERSET_HOME_DIR` contains the default-home path with a trailing space, it passes `assertIsolatedDaemonNamespaceInTests()`, then resolves to the real default home when the manifest is read or written. Previously the manifest kept that space, so it did not touch the real home.
Normalize the value consistently before checking it or choosing the socket key.

Compare the trimmed home directory in the default-home check.
If SUPERSET_HOME_DIR contains the default path with surrounding spaces, resolveAppHomeDir() trims it to the default path, but isDefaultAppHomeDir() returns false. In a test runner, this lets assertIsolatedDaemonNamespaceInTests() pass before the manifest code uses the real default directory. Compare path.resolve(dir.trim()) instead, so the isolation guard checks the directory that the resolver will use. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Resolve the sessions root before validating a session path.
If SUPERSET_HOME_DIR is relative, defaultSessionsRoot() returns a relative root. safeResolveSessionPath() then compares that root with the absolute result of resolve(root, folderName). A valid session name fails the containment check, so project-less session creation returns BAD_REQUEST. Return an absolute sessions root, for example with resolve(resolveAppHomeDir(), "sessions"). Every process now finds its per-machine directory through
resolveAppHomeDir() in @superset/agent-setup/paths, so the coming move
from ~/.superset to ~/.paradev changes one place.
- Merge the CLI's getSupersetHomeDir() into it; rename
resolveSupersetHomeDir() to resolveAppHomeDir().
- host-service: worktrees, sessions, attachments, agent jobs, the pty
daemon manifest and socket key, the usage pointers and the per-machine
project override now use it. Worktrees and sessions used to ignore
SUPERSET_HOME_DIR; they now follow it, so dev-workspace builds keep
their worktrees under their own home. Existing worktrees keep their
stored absolute paths.
- desktop: call-time code uses the resolver; module-level constants
(terminal-host client and daemon) use app-environment's
SUPERSET_HOME_DIR, which is set before anything else loads. The two
places that read the production home on purpose use
defaultAppHomeDir().
- Hook and plugin templates take the directory name from
APP_HOME_DIR_NAME. Rendered output is byte-identical to before, so
installed hooks are not rewritten.
- Tests that wrote user-override fixtures into the real
~/.superset/projects now use a temp app home.
No change for users: the default is still ~/.superset.

Keep homeDir as a compatibility alias.
These exported option types remove the existing optional homeDir property and accept only appHomeDir. Any caller that still passes homeDir now fails type checking or loses its test override. (github.com)
Keep both properties and resolve appHomeDir ?? homeDir ?? resolveAppHomeDir(). Apply this to all four exported helpers.
As per coding guidelines, changes under packages/host-service/** must be additive.
Apply the same alias to the other exported option types.

exported helpers, and resolve the app home directory in appHomeDir, then
homeDir, then resolveAppHomeDir() order. Preserve appHomeDir’s precedence and
