Summary

  • Add a Warn before closing a running terminal switch to Settings → Terminal. Once someone ticks "Don't ask again", this is the only UI that can turn the close warning back on.
  • Add a settings-search entry (close, delete, tab, port, warn, confirm…) and translations for all 16 locales.

Why / Context

The close-terminal confirm (#5517), which the close-port confirm (#6007) reuses, has a "Don't ask again" checkbox. Ticking it sets suppressed: true in the persisted terminal-close-confirm-v1 store. The store has a reset() action, but nothing calls it and no settings page reads the store. Users who ticked the box lost the warning for good, and only clearing localStorage brought it back.

How It Works

  • CloseConfirmSetting reads the existing useTerminalCloseConfirmStore: the switch is !suppressed, on calls reset(), off calls suppress().
  • The dialog checkbox and the switch share one flag, so they stay in sync. The flag covers both terminal/tab close and port close, and the description says so.
  • No new persisted key (terminal-close-confirm-v1 is already registered) and no tRPC change.

Manual QA Checklist

  • Settings → Terminal shows the switch, on by default
  • Close a terminal running sleep 100, tick "Don't ask again" → the switch now shows off
  • Turn the switch back on → closing a running terminal prompts again
  • Turn it off → closing a running terminal, a tab with one, or an in-use port closes without a prompt
  • Searching "close" or "warn" in settings finds the item

Testing

  • bun test src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/utils/settings-search (18 pass)
  • bun run check:i18n (passes, all locales translated)
  • biome check on the settings directory
  • bun run typecheck in apps/desktop: 27 errors, none in changed files. All are better-auth type errors in packages/auth, packages/trpc and some desktop route files.
  • Not yet verified in the running app: no dev build was available in this session. The QA checklist above is still open.

Summary by cubic

Adds a Settings → Terminal switch to turn the running-terminal close warning back on. Ticking "Don't ask again" in the close-terminal or close-port dialog previously suppressed the warning with no UI to restore it.

  • The switch reads and writes the same persisted store as the dialog checkbox, so they stay in sync.
  • Adds a settings-search entry and translations for all 16 locales. No new persisted key or tRPC changes.

Written for commit 4bcc843. Summary will update on new commits.

    • Added an option to warn before closing a running terminal.
    • Confirmation warnings can be enabled or disabled from Terminal Settings.
  • Localization

    • Added translated setting labels and warning messages across supported languages.

…ng back on

"Don't ask again" in the close-terminal and close-port dialogs set a
persisted flag that nothing in the UI could clear. Add a switch under
Settings > Terminal bound to the same store, plus a settings-search entry
and translations for all locales.

📝 Walkthrough

Adds a searchable terminal close-confirmation setting. The terminal settings page displays a switch that resets or suppresses confirmation warnings. Locale files add translations for the setting and warning.

Changes: Terminal close confirmation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Register the setting
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/utils/settings-search/settings-search.ts
Adds the setting identifier, marks it as v2-only, and registers its searchable description and keywords.
Connect the setting to terminal settings
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/terminal/components/TerminalSettings/*, apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/terminal/components/CloseConfirmSetting.tsx, packages/i18n/locales/*/messages.po
Adds the switch and renders it according to setting visibility. Enabling the switch resets suppression; disabling it suppresses confirmations. Adds localized messages for the setting and warning.

Distinguish processes in terminals from processes using ports.

The French text says a process runs “dans” a port. A port is used by a process; it does not contain one. Clarify that terminals and tabs contain processes, while processes use ports.

Clarify that a process uses the port.

The current translation says that a port runs a process. The process uses the port. Consider: “Minta konfirmasi sebelum menutup terminal atau tab yang memiliki proses aktif, atau port yang masih digunakan oleh proses.” The PR objective says this warning also covers ports in use.

Clarify that the port is in use.

The current wording says a process is running “in” a port. Translate the port case as “una porta ancora in uso,” or separate it from the terminal and tab cases. The PR objective states that the warning also covers ports in use.

Review verdict: minor issues. The approach is right: it reuses the existing terminal-close-confirm-v1 store and adds no new persisted key. But the setting is hidden from v1 users, who can still suppress the warning.

  • minor apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/settings/utils/settings-search/settings-search.ts:226: TERMINAL_CLOSE_CONFIRM is "v2", but the v1 sidebar ports list (useKillPort → confirmClosePorts) can still set suppressed: true. v1 users stay stuck. Make it "shared".
  • nit settings-search.ts:1234: the search description leaves out "tab", unlike the UI copy.
  • nit CloseConfirmSetting.tsx is a flat file, not a component folder (AGENTS.md rule 1). Its siblings are flat too, so this is optional.

Verified in the dev desktop at 4bcc8433: the switch is on by default, it toggles and persists, settings search finds it, and it updates live when suppress() is called. I could not drive the real close-dialog journey in the sandbox. Tests and check:i18n pass, and CI is green.
