Summary

This PR bundles 3 related features, all under one theme: making cloud (and local) sandboxes immediately usable for desktop + mobile development without manual sign-in or a Mac/Android device.

  1. Auth sync - desktop and mobile auto-sign-in as the real workspace creator/developer in cloud sandboxes, and mobile auto-signs-in locally too, instead of staying signed out or falling back to a shared local-admin account.
  2. Limrun mobile dev tooling - limrun-dev.sh + vendored skills, so verifying apps/mobile on a cloud sandbox (no local Xcode/Android SDK) is one command instead of rediscovering Limrun's quirks each time.
  3. Mobile Simulator pane - a Cmd+Shift+M desktop pane mirroring the existing Desktop/VNC pane, backed by Limrun on a sandbox or a local iOS/Android simulator on a real machine.

Part 1: Auth sync (desktop + mobile, cloud + local)

Why

Every cloud workspace's Neon branch forks from production, so real users/organizations rows already exist — there was no reason to require a manual sign-in, or to spoof a generic "local admin" identity instead of the actual developer/workspace creator.

What / How

  • Desktop (cloud): packages/auth/src/seed-cloud-auth-token.ts resolves the real creator via SUPERSET_SANDBOX_CREATOR_USER_ID (sourced from cloud_workspaces.created_by_user_id, threaded through claim.ts/sandbox-contract.ts), mints a real better-auth session server-side, and writes it through the same AES-256-GCM machine-bound encryption desktop already uses for local worktrees — extracted to packages/shared/src/auth-token-crypto.ts so a headless script can produce a file desktop can decrypt, without depending on apps/desktop. This file can't be copied across machines (the key is derived from /etc/machine-id), so it's minted fresh per sandbox rather than copied.
  • Mobile (cloud + local): @better-auth/expo uses cookie/SecureStore, not a portable encrypted file, so mobile instead uses better-auth's oneTimeToken plugin: seed-cloud-mobile-token.ts (cloud) and seed-local-mobile-token.ts (local, resolves identity by validating the existing auth-token.enc against the real API) mint a session + one-time token and bake it into .env as EXPO_PUBLIC_DEV_ONE_TIME_TOKEN. DevSignInOptions redeems it automatically on mount if present.
  • The oneTimeToken plugin is registered unconditionally in packages/auth/src/server.ts - a conditional entry in the plugins array defeats better-auth's tuple-based type inference for the whole Session/User type (confirmed: broke packages/trpc/src/router/automation/automation.ts). It's instead blocked outside development in a hooks.before check that 404s /one-time-token/* - verified live with NODE_ENV=production.
  • Removed apps/mobile/.maestro/flows/sign-in.yml - not supportable going forward and not a priority.

Key Decisions

Decision Choice Rationale
Mint vs. copy auth state Mint fresh per sandbox auth-token.enc's key is machine-bound; copying it across machines can never work
Mobile mechanism better-auth oneTimeToken plugin Mobile's storage (cookie/SecureStore) has no equivalent to desktop's encrypted file; this is the built-in, dev-gated primitive for "redeem a token for a real session"
Plugin registration Always register, gate in hooks.before A conditional plugins array silently breaks Session/User type inference repo-wide

Part 2: Limrun mobile dev tooling

Why

apps/mobile is iOS-only and has no local Xcode in a cloud sandbox. Verifying a change there meant hand-running several lim commands per session and rediscovering the same gotchas (SPM sandbox failures, .env not reaching the remote build, stale native projects) each time.

What / How

  • apps/mobile/scripts/limrun-dev.sh: checks Limrun asset storage for an existing branch-scoped build first (fast path: install on a fresh simulator in seconds, no Xcode sandbox at all) and only builds when none exists or --rebuild is passed. A fresh build reapplies a required Xcode SPM sandbox fix (confirmed via a dedicated test that it does not survive snapshot restores or instance recreation, so it's cheap to reapply unconditionally rather than relying on persistence), forwards .env values via --env (.env is gitignored and never reaches Limrun's remote sync), and tunnels both Metro and the API port.
  • apps/mobile/AGENTS.md documents all of the above so the next agent doesn't rediscover it.
  • Vendored limrun-expo-development, limrun-ios-simulator, limrun-maestro-testing, limrun-xcode skills via lim skills install (committed, matching how the repo already vendors other skills). limrun-android-emulator and limrun-gradle are deliberately not vendored - out of scope since apps/mobile is iOS-only today.
  • EXPO_PUBLIC_SENTRY_DSN_MOBILE placeholder added to .env.local.example: an unset/empty DSN causes @sentry/react-native's native init to SIGSEGV before any JS runs, which looks nothing like a Sentry problem. A real DSN is provisioned as an environment secret for sandboxes; local dev falls back to this inert placeholder.

Part 3: Mobile Simulator pane

Why

A pane analogous to the existing Desktop/VNC pane, so an agent or developer can see and interact with a mobile simulator inline instead of needing a second window/device - and critically, something that still works on a headless cloud sandbox where there's no local Xcode/Android SDK at all.

What / How

  • types.ts: MobilePaneData added to the PaneViewerData union.
  • hotkeys/registry.ts + useWorkspaceHotkeys.ts: Cmd+Shift+M (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+M on Windows/Linux) splits the active pane with a mobile pane. Not gated on isSandbox (unlike the Desktop/VNC hotkey) since it should also work on a real machine with local tooling.
  • usePaneRegistry.tsx: registers the mobile pane kind unconditionally, rendering <MobilePane />.
  • packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/mobile/mobile.ts (new router): detectMobileBackend() picks limrun (sandbox + LIM_API_KEY), local-ios (darwin + xcrun + a booted simulator), local-android (adb present), or none. limrunSession mints/reuses a Limrun instance server-side via a direct REST call (the org-wide LIM_API_KEY never reaches the renderer) and returns just the WebSocket URL + token <RemoteControl /> needs. localSession spawns/reuses @expo/serve-sim for iOS, or a SUPERSET_ANDROID_MIRROR_CMD-configured process for Android (no bundled default for Android - the npm screen-mirroring ecosystem there is fragmented and nothing has been run against real hardware yet; shipping a guess would overclaim confidence).
  • MobilePane.tsx: renders Limrun's own <RemoteControl /> (from the new @limrun/ui dependency) directly for the cloud path, or embeds the local tool's browser preview UI in a <webview> for the local paths.

Key Decisions

Decision Choice Rationale
Cloud rendering Limrun's own <RemoteControl /> It's a real React component with its own connecting/reconnecting UI; wrapping it beats reimplementing its streaming protocol
Local rendering <webview> embedding the local tool's own browser UI @expo/serve-sim (iOS) already ships a browser-embeddable preview; no need to speak SimulatorKit/IOSurface ourselves
Android local backend Configurable via SUPERSET_ANDROID_MIRROR_CMD, no default serve-sim has no Android equivalent (scrcpy renders to a native window); the right fork of ws-scrcpy-style tooling is untested

Keyboard Shortcuts

Shortcut Action
Cmd+Shift+M (mac) / Ctrl+Shift+Alt+M (Windows/Linux) Split the current pane and open a Mobile Simulator

Manual QA Checklist

Auth sync

  • Desktop auto-signs-in as the real workspace creator on a fresh cloud sandbox (verified live via CDP - session + activeOrganizationId present)
  • Mobile auto-signs-in via the redeemed one-time token on a cloud sandbox, verified live on a real Limrun iOS simulator (twice, including through the final limrun-dev.sh script)
  • /one-time-token/verify and /generate both 404 with NODE_ENV=production; /get-session still 200 (verified live)
  • Mobile local auto-sign-in (setup.sh path, not cloud) - implemented and type-checks, not independently re-verified in this session beyond the cloud path's shared code path

Limrun tooling

  • limrun-dev.sh cold-build path verified live (build, attach, tunnel, Metro, dev-client launch)
  • limrun-dev.sh fast path (existing asset, no Xcode sandbox) verified live (~11s)
  • SPM sandbox fix non-persistence across snapshot restore confirmed via a dedicated build→snapshot→delete→restore→check test

Mobile Simulator pane

  • detectMobileBackend() verified in all three live branches (sandbox+key, no-key sandbox, no-adb)
  • Limrun REST call (limrunSession) verified live against the real API
  • bun run typecheck passes for apps/desktop and packages/host-service
  • Not verified: the hotkey → pane UI flow was not click-tested end-to-end in an open workspace (no existing local workspace in this sandbox's dev DB to test against)
  • Not verified: local-ios backend (@expo/serve-sim) - no Mac available in this cloud sandbox
  • Not verified: local-android backend - no Android device/emulator available in this cloud sandbox, and no default SUPERSET_ANDROID_MIRROR_CMD is shipped

Testing

  • bun run typecheck for apps/desktop and packages/host-service - pass
  • bunx @biomejs/biome check - pass, no outstanding lint issues
  • Live verification as described in Manual QA above (CDP screenshots for desktop/mobile auth; real Limrun sandboxes for the mobile tooling and pane backend)
  • Did not get a clean full-repo bun test run in this sandbox due to a pre-existing, unrelated Bun engine segfault (confirmed via git stash that it reproduces on main too, not introduced by this diff)

Known Limitations

  • The Mobile Simulator pane's local-ios and local-android backends are implemented but entirely unverified on real hardware - this sandbox is Linux-only. Plan is to verify these on a canary build once merged.
  • No default Android screen-mirroring tool is bundled; SUPERSET_ANDROID_MIRROR_CMD must be configured by whoever tests the local-Android path first.
  • The pane's hotkey → split → render flow itself was not click-tested in a live, populated workspace.

Follow-ups

  • Verify local-ios / local-android panes on real hardware and pick/pin a concrete Android mirroring tool.
  • Consider a platform picker for Limrun sessions once apps/mobile supports Android (today it's iOS-only, so the pane always requests ios).

Risks / Rollout

  • Risk: auth-adjacent changes (new always-on oneTimeToken plugin, dev-only gated) and a new tRPC router with a direct external REST call (api.limrun.com) using an org-wide API key that stays server-side.
  • Rollout: no feature flag; ships to desktop/mobile/host-service together since they version in lockstep. The oneTimeToken endpoint is hard-gated to NODE_ENV === "development", so it is inert in any production build regardless of this PR shipping.
  • Rollback: standard revert; no data migrations or schema changes involved.

Summary by cubic

Makes cloud and local sandboxes immediately usable for desktop and mobile development: they auto-sign-in as the real workspace creator instead of the shared dev account, a Mobile Simulator pane (Cmd+Shift+M) mirrors the Desktop/VNC pane, and verifying apps/mobile from a cloud sandbox is now one command.

  • Desktop cloud sandboxes get a better-auth session minted server-side for the creator, written through the machine-bound AES-256-GCM encryption desktop already uses (extracted to packages/shared); the key derives from machine-id, so the token is minted fresh per sandbox, never copied.
  • Mobile redeems a better-auth oneTimeToken baked into .env as EXPO_PUBLIC_DEV_ONE_TIME_TOKEN on both cloud and local setups; the plugin is always registered but hard-gated to NODE_ENV=development via a hooks.before check that 404s /one-time-token/* in production (a conditional plugins array breaks better-auth's tuple type inference repo-wide).
  • apps/mobile/scripts/limrun-dev.sh fast-paths off a shared, branch-scoped Limrun build (seconds, no Xcode) when one exists, otherwise builds (reapplying a non-persistent Xcode SPM sandbox fix) and tunnels Metro and the API port; .env is forwarded via --env since it never reaches Limrun's remote sync.
  • Vendored limrun-expo-development, limrun-ios-simulator, limrun-maestro-testing, and limrun-xcode skills; Android equivalents are deliberately skipped since apps/mobile is iOS-only.
  • EXPO_PUBLIC_SENTRY_DSN_MOBILE placeholder added to .env.local.example: an unset DSN makes @sentry/react-native native init SIGSEGV before JS runs.
  • The pane's new strings are translated across all 16 locales (check:i18n).

Rendering paths

  • Sandbox with LIM_API_KEY: a new host-service mobile tRPC router mints/reuses a Limrun instance server-side (the org-wide key never reaches the renderer) and returns the WebSocket URL + token for Limrun's own <RemoteControl />.
  • Real machine: iOS uses @expo/serve-sim, Android uses a SUPERSET_ANDROID_MIRROR_CMD-configured process — no bundled Android default since nothing is verified on real hardware. Both embed the tool's own browser UI in a <webview>.

Verification and risks

  • Live-verified: desktop/cloud mobile auto-sign-in, cloud mobile via limrun-dev.sh, the production 404-gate, Limrun cold-build and fast paths, and SPM-fix non-persistence. Not verified: local iOS/Android backends (Linux-only sandbox, no hardware) and the hotkey→pane flow end-to-end.
  • No feature flag, data migration, or schema change; ships together since desktop, mobile, and host-service version in lockstep, and the oneTimeToken endpoint is inert in production builds.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Open a mobile simulator alongside your workspace in a split pane using the new keyboard shortcut.
    • Mobile previews can connect to available local or cloud simulators.
    • Development sign-in can happen automatically when a valid one-time token is available.
  • Documentation
    • Added guides for preparing and running mobile apps, controlling cloud simulators, testing with Maestro, and using remote Xcode. These cover setup, app launch, simulator interaction, troubleshooting, and preview workflows.

Mints a one-time, dev-only better-auth session for the workspace creator's
own account during setup.cloud.sh (desktop + mobile) and setup.sh (mobile),
instead of leaving the app signed out or falling back to a shared local-admin
account. Desktop reuses the existing AES-256-GCM machine-bound encryption
(extracted to packages/shared so headless seed scripts can use it without
depending on apps/desktop); mobile redeems a token via better-auth's
oneTimeToken plugin, registered unconditionally (a conditional entry in the
plugins array breaks better-auth's tuple-based Session/User type inference)
and gated to development only via a hooks.before check that 404s the
endpoint elsewhere.

Removes the now-unsupported Maestro sign-in flow (apps/mobile/.maestro/flows/sign-in.yml).
apps/mobile has no local Xcode/Android SDK to verify against in a cloud
sandbox; limrun-dev.sh wraps the whole Limrun flow into one command —
fast-paths off a shared, branch-scoped build in asset storage when one
exists, otherwise builds (reapplying a required Xcode SPM sandbox fix that
does not survive snapshot restores) and attaches a simulator, then tunnels
both Metro and the API port. apps/mobile/AGENTS.md documents the gotchas
this encodes so later work doesn't rediscover them.

Also vendors the limrun-* skills (lim skills install) so agents get the same
guidance without needing network access to Limrun's skill registry.
Mirrors the existing Desktop/VNC pane: a kind in PaneViewerData, a hotkey
wired through splitPane, and a registry entry rendering MobilePane. Works on
both a cloud sandbox and a real machine — host-service's new mobile.status
procedure (detectMobileBackend) resolves which backend is available:

- Sandbox with LIM_API_KEY: mints/reuses a Limrun instance server-side (the
org-wide API key never reaches the renderer) and the pane renders Limrun's
own <RemoteControl /> with the returned WebSocket URL + token.
- Real machine with Xcode/a booted simulator: spawns @expo/serve-sim and
embeds its preview UI in a <webview>.
- Real machine with adb: spawns a SUPERSET_ANDROID_MIRROR_CMD-configured
mirroring process the same way (no bundled default — serve-sim has no
Android equivalent, and shipping an unproven one would overclaim).

Adds @limrun/ui as a direct desktop dependency for <RemoteControl />.

Walkthrough

This pull request adds mobile simulator panes to the desktop workspace, mobile development-token seeding and sign-in, and a Limrun launch script. It also adds Limrun workflow guides and updates mobile verification instructions.

Changes

Desktop mobile simulator pane

Layer / File(s) Summary
Mobile backend detection and sessions
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/mobile/*, packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/router.ts
The host service detects Limrun, local iOS, and local Android backends. It exposes session procedures and registers the mobile router.
Workspace mobile pane and shortcut
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/.../types.ts, apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/.../usePaneRegistry/*, apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/.../useWorkspaceHotkeys/*, apps/desktop/src/renderer/hotkeys/registry.ts, apps/desktop/package.json, packages/i18n/locales/*/messages.po
The workspace registers a mobile pane that displays remote or local simulator content. A new hotkey splits the active pane to open it. Translations add simulator status and action messages.

Mobile development sign-in and launch

Layer / File(s) Summary
Session, token, and encryption primitives
packages/shared/src/auth-token-crypto.ts, packages/shared/package.json, packages/auth/src/cloud-session.ts, packages/auth/src/server.ts, apps/desktop/src/lib/trpc/routers/auth/utils/crypto-storage.ts
Shared code adds encrypted-token helpers and session and one-time-token minting. The auth server registers the one-time-token plugin and blocks its paths outside development. Desktop storage uses the shared crypto helpers.
Cloud and local token seeding
packages/auth/src/seed-*-token.ts, packages/shared/src/sandbox-contract.ts, packages/trpc/src/lib/sandbox/claim.ts, package.json, .superset/lib/setup/*, .superset/setup.cloud.sh
Seeders create cloud desktop-session tokens and mobile one-time tokens, or derive a local mobile token from the encrypted desktop token. Setup scripts invoke the seeders; sandbox identity now allows an absent creator ID.
Mobile sign-in and Limrun launch
apps/mobile/lib/auth/client.ts, apps/mobile/lib/env.ts, apps/mobile/screens/(auth)/sign-in/components/DevSignInOptions/DevSignInOptions.tsx, apps/mobile/scripts/limrun-dev.sh, .env.local.example, apps/mobile/AGENTS.md, .agents/skills/mobile-limrun-dev/SKILL.md, apps/mobile/.maestro/flows/sign-in.yml
The mobile app can redeem a development one-time token. The launch script reuses or builds a Limrun simulator asset, forwards Metro and API ports, and opens the development client. The local sign-in Maestro flow is removed, and environment and verification guidance is updated.

Limrun workflow guides

Fix with agent prompt
### Issue 1
apps/desktop/src/renderer/routes/_authenticated/_dashboard/v2-workspace/$workspaceId/hooks/usePaneRegistry/components/MobilePane/MobilePane.tsx:66-68
The pane connects directly to Limrun, but the renderer's `connect-src` allows only Superset, local, and telemetry servers. It has no Limrun entry, so the browser blocks the simulator's WebSocket. Add the required Limrun origins to the renderer policy so the cloud pane can connect.

### Issue 2
packages/auth/src/seed-cloud-mobile-token.ts:34-39
`seedCloudMobileToken` treats an existing `EXPO_PUBLIC_DEV_ONE_TIME_TOKEN` as usable even after it has been redeemed or expired. After the first simulator signs in, a fresh simulator receives the same spent token and cannot auto-sign-in. Later cloud boots also skip setup. Mint a fresh token when launching a new mobile session rather than checking only whether the key exists.

### Issue 3
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/mobile/mobile.ts:140-148
`localServer` is saved before the server answers, and the reuse branch returns its port without waiting. A second pane opened during startup can load a page that is not ready. Two calls arriving before `getFreePort` finishes can also spawn separate servers and lose track of one. Share one startup promise, await it in every caller, and clear it when startup fails. The Android path needs the same change.

### Issue 4
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/mobile/mobile.ts:181-183
Both mirroring processes pipe `stdout` and `stderr`, but nothing reads those streams. If the configured Android tool keeps writing logs, it can fill the pipes and stop making progress. Drain the streams into bounded logs, inherit them, or use `ignore` when the output is not needed.

### Issue 5
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/mobile/mobile.ts:148-152
Neither child has an `error` listener. If `npx` or the configured Android command cannot start, `exit` does not clear `localServer`. The first request waits for the HTTP timeout, while later requests return the cached port even though no server exists. Handle `error`, clear the saved child, and reject startup with the actual launch error.

### Issue 6
packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/mobile/mobile.ts:192-195
`stopLocalServer` is called only when switching backends. It is private and is not connected to host shutdown. Quitting or restarting the host can leave the mirroring server and its children running, while the next host starts another copy. Register shutdown cleanup and stop the owned process tree.

Summary

This PR seeds developer sessions for desktop and mobile, adds a Limrun development script and skills, and adds a Mobile Simulator pane with cloud and local backends.

  • The cloud pane needs Limrun connections added to the renderer policy.
  • Cloud mobile tokens need renewal for replacement simulators.
  • Local server startup needs shared readiness checks and failure cleanup.
  • Child output and shutdown need explicit cleanup.

saddlepaddle explicitly deferred local hardware verification and end-to-end hotkey testing. saddlepaddle also intentionally omitted a default Android mirroring command because no candidate has been verified.

P2 Logs can freeze the preview

Both mirroring processes pipe stdout and stderr, but nothing reads those streams. If the configured Android tool keeps writing logs, it can fill the pipes and stop making progress. Drain the streams into bounded logs, inherit them, or use ignore when the output is not needed.

P2 Failed launches leave dead ports

Neither child has an error listener. If npx or the configured Android command cannot start, exit does not clear localServer. The first request waits for the HTTP timeout, while later requests return the cached port even though no server exists. Handle error, clear the saved child, and reject startup with the actual launch error.

P2 Mirroring processes survive host restarts

stopLocalServer is called only when switching backends. It is private and is not connected to host shutdown. Quitting or restarting the host can leave the mirroring server and its children running, while the next host starts another copy. Register shutdown cleanup and stop the owned process tree.

Use the mobile launcher for apps/mobile cloud sessions.

When this skill applies to apps/mobile in a cloud sandbox, direct the workflow to apps/mobile/scripts/limrun-dev.sh first. The manual steps here start Metro but omit the app environment forwarding and API-port tunnel, so API-backed flows can fail after the bundle loads. Keep this guide for cases the script does not cover.

Based on learnings, the repo convention says, “On a cloud sandbox ... run apps/mobile/scripts/limrun-dev.sh” and “Use skills directly only when the script's flow doesn't fit.”

Relaunch the iOS app after starting the tunnel.

lim ios create --attach launches the Debug app before this flow starts the destination tunnel. The iOS simulator instructions require the tunnel before app launch because earlier connections keep their original route. After Metro and the tunnel are running, terminate the app before opening the dev-client URL.

```bash
lim ios tunnel \
  --selector "*.api.example" \
  --har ./traffic.har \
  --persist \
  --ttl 604800 \
  --id <instance-id>
```

`--har` writes inspected traffic—including bodies—to a local HAR 1.2 file. `--persist` uploads a network log, also including bodies, as a session artifact when the tunnel stops or the instance terminates. `--ttl 604800` sets that artifact’s lifetime to seven days; the documented default is three days, and maximum is 30 days. ([docs.limrun.com](https://docs.limrun.com/docs/ios/local-services))

**Body redaction:** The docs describe a body-size limit (`--har-body-limit`, default 10 MiB per request or response), but don’t document a redaction option. Treat captured bodies as sensitive; don’t assume they’re scrubbed. HTTPS inspection is enabled by default, and `--no-inspect` turns it off (which also means traffic won’t be inspected into HAR). ([docs.limrun.com](https://docs.limrun.com/docs/ios/local-services))

**Access/retention:** The docs establish artifact upload and TTL, but don’t specify who can access the artifact or whether copies/backups are retained after TTL. Those details remain unresolved in the cited documentation. ([docs.limrun.com](https://docs.limrun.com/docs/ios/local-services))

Sensitive Data Exposure

CWE: CWE-532 — Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File

Warn users that HAR and persisted logs can contain sensitive data. The guide documents body-inclusive HAR files and uploaded artifacts, but the service documentation does not describe body redaction or artifact access controls. Tell users to use synthetic data when possible and to avoid capturing or persisting sensitive traffic unless the applicable storage and access policy permits it.

Add a sensitive-data warning
`--persist` uploads a body-inclusive network log as a session artifact when
the tunnel stops or the instance terminates; it appears on the instance's
session page in the console with a HAR download (default lifetime 3 days,
 `--ttl <seconds>` up to 30 days).
+HAR files and persisted logs contain request and response bodies. These bodies
+can include credentials or personal data. Use synthetic data when possible.
+Do not capture or persist sensitive traffic unless the applicable storage and
+access policy permits it. The service documentation does not describe body
+redaction or artifact access controls, so treat captured bodies as sensitive.

Distinguish automatic capability registration from portal setup.

Line 370 says every capability must already be enabled in the developer portal or export fails. Limrun's signing guidance says the export registers toggleable capabilities such as HealthKit and push; only capabilities that need extra setup must be configured in advance. Revise this sentence so users do not perform unnecessary portal setup or mistake automatic registration for a failure. (docs.limrun.com)

Give the error state a retry path.

startedBackend.current keeps the backend after a failure, so the effect never runs again for that backend. When phase === "error", the pane offers no retry. The user must close the pane and reopen it. To fix this, add a Retry button that resets startedBackend.current, error, and localUrl and then starts the session again.

Use the same gate as the client plugin, and handle the { error } result.

There are two problems in this effect:

  • apps/mobile/lib/auth/client.ts Line 46 registers oneTimeTokenClient() only when __DEV__ || env.EXPO_PUBLIC_E2E === "1". This effect checks only that a token is set. Metro inlines EXPO_PUBLIC_* values at build time. Suppose a non-dev build runs on a machine whose .env has EXPO_PUBLIC_DEV_ONE_TIME_TOKEN. Then authClient.oneTimeToken is undefined, and the .verify call throws a TypeError while the sign-in screen mounts.
  • better-auth client calls return { data, error } for server rejections and do not throw. A token that was already used or has expired gives an error result. .catch never runs, so the user sees no error message. One-time tokens work only once, and .env keeps the token after redemption. This rejected case therefore happens after every sign-out or reinstall.

Handle a detached HEAD when the script derives the branch key.

On a detached HEAD, git branch --show-current prints an empty string and exits with status 0, so the || echo main fallback does not run. ASSET_NAME then becomes sh.superset.mobile/-debug.zip and SNAPSHOT_KEY becomes mobile-. Every detached checkout then shares one asset and can install a build that does not match its code.

Add a timeout to the Limrun create request.

The request uses wait=true and has no AbortSignal. If Limrun stalls, the mutation never settles. The pane then shows "Starting the simulator…" with no error. Add signal: AbortSignal.timeout(...) and map the abort to a TRPCError.

Clean up the spawned server when waitForHttp fails.

ensureLocalIosServer sets localServer before it calls waitForHttp. Suppose npx takes longer than 20 seconds, for example on the first download, or the server never responds. In that case the mutation throws, but the child process keeps running and localServer stays set. The next localSession call finds localServer.platform === "local-ios" and returns the port at once. The pane then embeds a URL that does not work, and the user cannot retry. ensureLocalAndroidServer (Lines 181-189) has the same defect.

🟡 Minor · Refresh unusable mobile-token assignments before skipping. · seed-cloud-mobile-token.ts:18-63

packages/auth/src/seed-cloud-mobile-token.ts:18-63
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Refresh unusable mobile-token assignments before skipping.

When either db:seed-cloud-mobile-token or db:seed-local-mobile-token runs again while .env contains EXPO_PUBLIC_DEV_ONE_TIME_TOKEN=, its guard returns without minting. This includes empty assignments and tokens that were consumed or have expired. The mobile screen skips an empty value or attempts the stale token, so rerunning the seeder cannot restore automatic sign-in while that assignment remains. Refresh or replace unusable assignments instead of treating key presence as proof that the token is valid.

State that Limrun must be enabled.

“Compatible con Limrun” describes compatibility, but does not clearly state that Limrun must be enabled. Use “con Limrun habilitado” to preserve the setup requirement.

Translate “instance” as a running simulator, not a version.

Line 16008 says “Phiên bản trình giả lập,” which means “simulator version.” The source says that the simulator instance was terminated. Use “Phiên trình giả lập đã bị chấm dứt.”

Use the correct zh-TW term for “simulator instance.”

Replace 「執行個例」 with 「執行個體」. 「執行個例」 can read as “example” or “case,” which makes this status unclear.
