fix(integrations): Linear and GitHub sync need Pro; Linear plugin gets its own connection - #7985
Conversation
…s show
Free organizations could connect Linear, and the hourly suspend cron revoked
the connection at the next hour. The page then said "authorization expired,
reconnect", so people looped. The connect routes now refuse an organization
outside the sync policy, and the web pages show an upgrade button instead of
Connect. The CLI's github connect fails early with the same message.
A Linear workspace already linked to another Superset organization now says
who holds it, as Slack does.
No integration callback toast ever showed: the page published it before the
root layout's Toaster subscribed, and sonner drops toasts published before
that. The "connected by {owner}" messages also rendered the owner blank,
because Lingui filled the placeholder with nothing on the server.

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughGitHub and Linear connection routes now check organization sync eligibility. Linear workspace conflicts redirect with optional owner details and use localized callback messages. The Linear MCP connector adds OAuth and personal API key methods, updates plugin metadata, and narrows the Linear suspension query to OAuth2 connections. Priority: ➖ Normal Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Free organizations see Connect Linear buttons that bounce them to billing, with no upfront Pro gate. Minor translation wording issues in German and Russian may also remain. Neither blocks merge, but both are worth fixing. Security Architecture ReviewSecurity architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to Connection setup becomes more restrictive, and the Linear plugin gets a separate connection. The main concern is limited identity disclosure: someone authorized to access the same Linear workspace can now learn another organization’s connection owner’s email. No broader authorization bypass was established, but credential rollout and recovery coverage remains incomplete. Retained concerns

Keep Disconnect available for retained Linear connections.
When a free organization has a revoked connection, this condition sets isConnected to false. Linear ConnectionControls then shows only the billing link. The user cannot remove the existing connection without upgrading.
Keep the “Not Connected” badge, but pass connection existence separately to ConnectionControls. Use that value to keep Disconnect available while syncAllowed blocks Connect and Reconnect.

Use a natural German passive form.
“ist bereits von {owner} verbunden” is not idiomatic here. Replace “ist” with “wurde” to express that {owner} connected the workspace.

Add the missing relation before {owner}.
подключено {owner} is ungrammatical Russian and does not identify {owner} as the party that connected the workspace. Use a construction such as подключено владельцем {owner}.

🧹 Preview Cleanup CompleteThe following preview resources have been cleaned up:
Thank you for your contribution! 🎉 |
The plugin and Tasks sync shared one `linear` connection row: our Linear
OAuth app, whose grants turn on webhook deliveries. So the suspend cron's
revoke broke the plugin for free organizations, reconnecting through the
plugin turned webhooks back on until the next revoke, and uninstalling the
plugin disconnected the sync.
`linear_mcp` signs a person in to mcp.linear.app with a dynamic client
(client-metadata document on https, registration on localhost), as
notion_mcp and sentry_mcp do, or takes a personal API key, which the MCP
server accepts as a bearer token. Identity comes from the server's own
get_user("me"). These tokens belong to Linear's MCP app, so no webhooks
follow and the cron never touches them. Existing installs pick up the new
connector through installConnector; each person signs in once.
The suspend cron now revokes only OAuth `linear` rows: an API key starts no
webhooks, so revoking it only deleted a person's key.
…pages The connection and settings sections are replaced by the desktop's Pro gate (as in Settings > Mobile): one line and Upgrade to Pro, which goes to the billing page. Paid organizations see the page unchanged.
…uth-investigation-ea2ce880
…tes move to a follow-up The Linear and GitHub connect routes redirect a free organization to the billing page. The web pages go back to their main UI: the follow-up routes free organizations away from them instead of gating each page, and moves the CLI check with it, since clients may call integration.syncAllowed only once this API is live.

…r Linear and GitHub (#8048) * fix(integrations): Linear and GitHub connect need Pro; callback toasts show Free organizations could connect Linear, and the hourly suspend cron revoked the connection at the next hour. The page then said "authorization expired, reconnect", so people looped. The connect routes now refuse an organization outside the sync policy, and the web pages show an upgrade button instead of Connect. The CLI's github connect fails early with the same message. A Linear workspace already linked to another Superset organization now says who holds it, as Slack does. No integration callback toast ever showed: the page published it before the root layout's Toaster subscribed, and sonner drops toasts published before that. The "connected by {owner}" messages also rendered the owner blank, because Lingui filled the placeholder with nothing on the server. * feat(plugins): the Linear plugin gets its own personal connection The plugin and Tasks sync shared one `linear` connection row: our Linear OAuth app, whose grants turn on webhook deliveries. So the suspend cron's revoke broke the plugin for free organizations, reconnecting through the plugin turned webhooks back on until the next revoke, and uninstalling the plugin disconnected the sync. `linear_mcp` signs a person in to mcp.linear.app with a dynamic client (client-metadata document on https, registration on localhost), as notion_mcp and sentry_mcp do, or takes a personal API key, which the MCP server accepts as a bearer token. Identity comes from the server's own get_user("me"). These tokens belong to Linear's MCP app, so no webhooks follow and the cron never touches them. Existing installs pick up the new connector through installConnector; each person signs in once. The suspend cron now revokes only OAuth `linear` rows: an API key starts no webhooks, so revoking it only deleted a person's key. * fix(web): free organizations see a Pro gate on the Linear and GitHub pages The connection and settings sections are replaced by the desktop's Pro gate (as in Settings > Mobile): one line and Upgrade to Pro, which goes to the billing page. Paid organizations see the page unchanged. * fix(i18n): German and Russian 'already connected by' messages name who connected it * refactor(integrations): send free organizations to billing; client gates move to a follow-up The Linear and GitHub connect routes redirect a free organization to the billing page. The web pages go back to their main UI: the follow-up routes free organizations away from them instead of gating each page, and moves the CLI check with it, since clients may call integration.syncAllowed only once this API is live. * feat(integrations): free organizations are routed to billing from Linear and GitHub Web: /integrations/linear and /integrations/github redirect an organization that integration.syncAllowed rejects to /settings/billing, so clicking either card in the list lands on the upgrade, and neither page needs a Pro state. Desktop: in Settings > Integrations the Linear and GitHub rows show the PRO badge on a free plan, and Manage or Connect opens the Pro Features dialog (Tasks for Linear, Remote Access for GitHub) instead of the web page. CLI: `integrations github connect` stops with the Pro hint instead of opening the browser and polling for ten minutes. Needs #7985 live in production first: it adds integration.syncAllowed. * feat(web): free organizations get the Pro Features dialog for Linear and GitHub The desktop's Pro Features dialog moves to @superset/ui/pro-features-dialog (sidebar, previews, demos and the feature list, unchanged), and the desktop Paywall renders it with its own tracking and navigation. The web integrations list opens the same dialog when a free organization clicks Linear (Tasks) or GitHub (Remote Access), with the desktop's paywall_* events, and Get Superset Pro goes to billing. The Linear and GitHub pages and connect routes send a free organization to /integrations?pro=<provider>, which opens the dialog, instead of billing. The dialog's visible "Pro Features" heading is now its DialogTitle, which Radix required: the dialog logged an accessibility error on every open.
…8055) * docs(marketing): GitHub integration is a Pro feature on the pricing page Linear and GitHub sync need Pro since #7985 and #8048, and the pricing page still listed GitHub under Free in the plan card, the comparison table and the free-plan FAQ. * docs(marketing): drop GitHub integration from the pricing page It syncs nothing a team can use yet, so it is not a Pro selling point either.
…n id Main's #8049 took migration 0135, so the two here regenerated as 0136 and 0137 off main's drizzle state — never hand-edited. Main's #7985 also moved the Linear plugin's connector slug to linear_mcp, which the test fixtures had hardcoded as linear; the code reads it from the manifest and was right. An entry named linear-9f8a7c6b tells an agent nothing about which account it is reaching, and a real externalUserId is a UUID. The segment now prefers the nickname the person set, then the provider's label, then the id. All or nothing across a connector: a label for one account beside a raw id for its twin reads as two unrelated schemes.
What & why
Two support reports about Linear "not connecting". They had different causes, and both left the user without an explanation.
Free orgs looped on reconnect. Since #7947, the hourly suspend cron revokes Linear and GitHub for orgs outside the sync policy. It has revoked 1,334 Linear connections so far. Connecting was still open, though. A free org could connect, get revoked at the next hour, and then see "Linear authorization expired. Reconnect to resume syncing." Since the cron started, 5 of the 8 new Linear connections were revoked within an hour.
linear/connectandgithub/installsend an org thatorganizationSyncsNowrejects to/settings/billing, so it never reaches Linear or GitHub. This is the same predicate the cron uses, so the two can't disagree.integration.syncAllowedquery. Its callers are in feat(integrations): free organizations get the Pro Features dialog for Linear and GitHub #8048, which merges after this is live: the web pages redirect free orgs to billing, desktop's Settings → Integrations opens the Pro dialog, and the CLI checks before connecting.A paid org's Linear workspace was already linked to a coworker's separate org. The callback returned
workspace_already_linked, but the Linear page had no message for it.ownerand the page says "…already connected by {owner}. Ask them to disconnect first.", as Slack does. Two older bugs found while checking the above:
IntegrationErrorHandlerpublishes in the page's effect. That runs before the root layout's<Toaster>subscribes, and sonner 2.0.7 drops anything published before then. The toast is now deferred one task (not cancelled on cleanup) and has a stable id so StrictMode can't show it twice.{owner}/{detail}messages on Slack and Teams rendered the name blank, because Lingui filled the placeholder with nothing on the server. The placeholder is now passed through as its own value. The Linear plugin gets its own personal connection. The plugin and Tasks sync shared one per-person
linearrow, which uses our Linear OAuth app. Grants from that app turn on webhook deliveries. So #7947's revoke broke the plugin for free orgs, reconnecting through the plugin turned webhooks back on until the next revoke, and uninstalling the plugin disconnected sync.linear_mcpconnector: a dynamic client againstmcp.linear.app, likenotion_mcp/sentry_mcp. It uses the client-metadata document on https and registration on localhost. It also offers a Personal API key option, since Linear's MCP server accepts keys as bearer tokens. Identity comes from the server'sget_user("me"). These tokens belong to Linear's MCP app, so no webhooks follow and the cron never touches them. The plugin stays free.plugins/linear1.5.3 points atlinear_mcp. Existing installs follow throughinstallConnector, and each person signs in once.linearrows. An API key starts no webhooks, so revoking it only deleted the person's key.linear@1.5.3(git tag linear@1.5.3 <merge sha> && git push --tags).Not in this PR: the pricing page still lists "GitHub integration" under Free. Whether it moves to Pro is an open decision.
How I tested it
Local API and web on this workspace's Neon branch, signed in as the seeded dev admin, with temporary

/settings/billing.Pro org:
linear/connectreturns 302 tolinear.app/oauth/authorize, andgithub/installreturns 302 to the dev GitHub App install page. Unchanged.Toasts in headless Chrome: the Linear conflict toast names the owner, the Slack and Teams owner toasts include the email, and
oauth_deniednow shows. One toast each.bun testin apps/api integrations (57 pass), typecheck for api/web/trpc/cli, biome,check:i18n.Plugin, end to end against the real
mcp.linear.appwith a local API:/api/connectors/linear_mcp/connectregistered a client, then Linear consent and workspace picker (Superset). The callback saved alinear_mcprow keyed on the Linear user withread/writeand a refresh token. Thentools/call get_workspacethrough/mcp/plugins/superset/linearreturned the Superset workspace. After that I disconnected, uninstalled and revoked the key.check:plugins, 174 api integration tests, 84 connector/plugin tests. Not tested: the Personal API key option on
linear_mcp(no key available; Linear's docs say the MCP server accepts keys), the production client-metadata-document path (localhost always registers), a real Linear OAuth round-trip that hits the conflict (the page was checked by loading the callback's redirect URL directly), the CLI change beyond typecheck, and non-English rendering of the new strings.Checklist

Linear and GitHub sync now require Pro: on free orgs, the connect routes redirect to billing instead of allowing a connection the hourly suspend cron would revoke. The Linear conflict toast now names the workspace owner, and callback toasts show correctly after being deferred past the root layout's
<Toaster>subscription. The Linear plugin and Tasks sync no longer share one
linearconnection row. The plugin uses a newlinear_mcpconnector onmcp.linear.app(OAuth or personal API key) that starts no webhooks, so the suspend cron now revokes only OAuthlinearrows, and existing installs pick up the connector automatically. A newintegration.syncAllowedquery lets clients check the sync policy before connecting.Written for commit 47ed79c. Summary will update on new commits.
