Summary

  • Restyle the Settings sidebar (SettingsSidebar/GeneralSettings/SettingsListSidebar) to use the main DashboardSidebar's actual row tokens instead of a visually-diverged approximation.
  • Move the standalone /usage page (token usage + machine resources) into Settings as a real nested /settings/usage section, discoverable in the nav and settings search — not just a link that jumps out of Settings.
  • Fix four regressions and simplify two rough edges surfaced by a code review of the above (see "Fixed during review" below).

Why / Context

The Settings nav used bg-accent/hover:bg-accent/50, looser row height, and slightly different section-header typography than the main sidebar's dedicated bg-fill-selected/hover:bg-fill-hover tokens, h-7 rows, and text-[13px] labels — small enough to not jump out, but enough that Settings read as a different surface from the rest of the app. Usage (token spend, quota, local CPU/RAM) was also only reachable via the main sidebar's rail button, with no presence in Settings at all.

How It Works

  • Restyle: swapped bg-accent/hover:bg-accent-* for bg-fill-selected/hover:bg-fill-hover across the three sidebar components, matched row height/text size/icon spacing, and aligned section-header typography to DashboardSidebarSectionHeader's style (kept non-collapsible, no chevron — that's a real difference, not just a style one).
  • Usage move: relocated the whole usage/ route subtree from _dashboard/usage/ to settings/usage/ via git mv, retargeted every route id / Link / navigate call in that subtree, and dropped its standalone drag-region/max-w-5xl chrome now that Settings' own layout provides it.
  • Registered "usage" as a SettingsSection: nav entry under Personal (distinct from the existing "Billing" entry under Organization, which is Superset's own subscription, not local AI-provider usage), section order/path lookup in the Settings layout, and a full-width content bypass (same mechanism as Projects/Hosts/Agents) since Usage's charts/tables want the space.
  • Added two settings-search entries so "usage", "tokens", "cpu", etc. surface the section from the search box.
  • Retargeted the main sidebar's rail "Usage" button (kept — still the fast one-click shortcut, lands on the same page now), the command palette's "Check resources" action, and the persisted-key-registry writer path for usage-last-section-v1 per apps/desktop/AGENTS.md's localStorage policy.

Fixed during review

A follow-up review caught four real regressions from moving /usage under /settings (a sibling route tree, not a child of _dashboard), plus two rough edges. All fixed in three follow-up commits:

  • CHECK_RESOURCES hotkey / native "Resources" menu item went dead in Settings. CommandPaletteHost only mounts inside _dashboard/layout.tsx; navigating into any /settings/* route (including the very /settings/usage/resources page this hotkey opens) unmounts it. Extracted the hotkey/menu-subscription logic into a standalone CheckResourcesHotkeyMount, now also mounted in Settings' own layout.
  • Escape 404'd on the Usage drilldown pages. The Settings Escape handler pops exactly one path segment; /settings/usage/model/$modelKey and /settings/usage/workspace/$workspaceName have no index route at their parent segment (/settings/usage/model, /settings/usage/workspace), so popping one level landed on NotFound. Special-cased those two parents to go to /settings/usage instead.
  • Settings search silently kicked the user off a drilldown page. The search auto-redirect effect already excludes "project" and "hosts" (sections with per-entity drilldowns) from force-navigation on a non-matching query; "usage" has the same shape but was missing from that list. Added it.
  • Command palette's Settings submenu had no Usage entry. A fifth, independently hand-maintained list (commandPalette/modules/settings/commands.ts's TABS array) was missed when Usage was registered everywhere else. Added it.
  • Row styling duplication had already drifted. GeneralSettings.tsx hand-rolled the same row classes settingsListItemClass encapsulates, and the two had diverged (the inline copy was missing hover:text-foreground). Now reuses the shared helper.
  • Full-width-content list was disconnected from where sections are registered. Replaced the hardcoded location.pathname.startsWith(...) list in the Settings layout with a fullWidth flag on the relevant SECTION_GROUPS items, derived into a path list at the source. Also consolidated getSectionFromPath/getPathFromSection (two independently hand-maintained lookups) into one shared path map, and removed a vestigial isUsageOpen highlight in DashboardSidebarHeader that could never be true post-move.

Manual QA Checklist

Verified end-to-end against a live dev instance over CDP, using real signed-in account data (not synthetic/mocked):

  • Settings sidebar hover/active/row styling matches DashboardSidebar in both light and dark theme
  • Settings → Personal → Usage opens /settings/usage with the Settings sidebar/search/back button intact and full-width content
  • Token usage ↔ Machine resources pill toggle both render live data correctly
  • Model-row drilldown (/settings/usage/model/...) resolves with working back-navigation
  • Main sidebar's rail Usage button still opens Usage directly at the new path, landing on the last-visited tab
  • Settings search for "usage" surfaces the new entries with correct match counts
  • Escape on a model drilldown page now lands on /settings/usage (no 404)
  • Typing an unrelated query into Settings search while on a drilldown page no longer force-navigates away
  • Full-width derivation refactor: Agents still renders full-width, Account still renders in the centered column (no regression)
  • CHECK_RESOURCES hotkey and command palette's Usage entry — verified structurally (typecheck + code read), not via a live key-combo; synthesizing global Electron hotkeys through CDP proved unreliable in this environment
  • No console errors or dead ends across the flow

Testing

  • bun run typecheck (via generate:icons + generate:routes + tsc --noEmit)
  • bunx biome check on all touched files
  • Existing test suites for the moved usage/ subtree, persisted-keys, and settings-search all pass

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added Usage to Settings with token usage, quotas, account management, history, and resource monitoring.
    • Added interactive charts, provider metrics, workspace/model breakdowns, date-range selection, and live CPU and memory monitoring.
    • Added leaderboard invitations and account sign-in, switching, default selection, and removal flows.
    • Added Usage search, command palette navigation, and a resources hotkey.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Updated usage navigation and saved sections to consistently use Settings routes.
    • Improved sign-in command safety for profile paths containing special characters.

Settings' nav rows used bg-accent/hover:bg-accent-50 with looser sizing,
diverging visually from DashboardSidebar's dedicated fill-hover/fill-selected
tokens, h-7 rows, and text-[13px] labels. Applies the same conventions to
SettingsSidebar and the shared SettingsListSidebar row helper (used by the
Projects/Hosts/Agents inner sidebars) so the two navs read as one system.
Moves the standalone /usage page (token usage + machine resources, previously
only reachable from the main sidebar's rail button) under /settings/usage so
it lives inside Settings' searchable, organized nav instead of behind a
separate top-level route. The rail button in DashboardSidebar keeps working
as a fast one-click shortcut into the same page.

- Retarget every route id / Link / navigate call in the moved usage/ subtree
from /usage to /settings/usage, and drop its standalone drag-region/max-w
chrome now that Settings' own layout provides it.
- Register "usage" as a SettingsSection: nav entry under Personal, section
order/path lookup in the Settings layout, full-width content bypass (like
Projects/Hosts/Agents) since Usage's charts/tables want the space, and two
settings-search entries so it's discoverable by search.
- Update the command palette's "Check resources" action and the persisted-key
registry's writer path for usage-last-section-v1 to match the new location.

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~60 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to 1fb31

Moving Usage into Settings leaves a security-sensitive command-construction issue that could make copied terminal commands unsafe, along with stale host data and several bounded usability/accessibility defects. The PR should not merge until the command safety issue is fixed or explicitly accepted by the owner.

Move Stat into its own component folder.

This file defines two components: Stat and UsageMetricTiles. The coding guidelines forbid multi-component files. UsageResourcesPage.tsx also defines a component named Stat, so the same label/value tile now exists twice. Promote one Stat to the highest shared parent's components/ folder (settings/usage/components/Stat/Stat.tsx with an index.ts barrel) and import it in both places.

As per coding guidelines: "One component per file: No multi-component files" and "If used 2+ times, promote to highest shared parent's components/".

Read the timestamp from the tooltip payload.

ChartTooltipContent resolves labelFormatter's value to the configured series label (label), so Number(value) becomes NaN and formatTime can return an invalid time. Read payload[0].payload.at instead.

Split the local components into separate files.

Stat, MemoryShareBar, MetricCells, MemoryLegendItem, and SystemOverview share UsageResourcesPage.tsx. Extract each single-use component to UsageResourcesPage/components/<ComponentName>/<ComponentName>.tsx with an index.ts export.

As per coding guidelines, **/*.{tsx,ts} requires “One component per file” and places single-use components under the parent’s components/ directory.

…n Settings

Two regressions from moving /usage under /settings, both live in the route
trees the move crossed:

- CommandPaletteHost (CHECK_RESOURCES hotkey + native "Resources" menu item)
only mounts inside the _dashboard route tree, a sibling to settings under
one shared Outlet — so navigating into Settings unmounted it entirely,
including on the /settings/usage/resources page it points at. Extracts the
hotkey/menu-subscription logic into a standalone mount and adds it to
Settings' own layout, alongside the existing dashboard one.
- The Escape "go up one level" handler and the search auto-redirect effect
both assumed every path segment maps to a routable page. The two new usage
  drilldown routes (model/$modelKey, workspace/$workspaceName) don't have an
index route at their parent segment, so Escape 404'd and an unrelated
search query would silently kick the user off the drilldown. Special-cases
the non-routable parents for Escape, and adds usage to the same
already-existing exclusion list "project" and "hosts" use for search.

Also consolidates getSectionFromPath/getPathFromSection (previously two
independently hand-maintained lookups) into one shared path map.
…e full-width sections

- The command palette's own hand-maintained Settings TABS list (a separate
registry from the sidebar's SECTION_GROUPS, powering the "Settings"
submenu in Cmd/Ctrl+K) was never updated with a Usage entry.
- GeneralSettings.tsx hand-rolled the same row styling settingsListItemClass
already encapsulates, and the two had already drifted (the inline version
was missing hover:text-foreground). Reuses the shared helper instead.
- Whether a section renders full-width was a separate hardcoded path-prefix
list in the Settings layout, disconnected from where sections are actually
registered. Marks fullWidth on the relevant SECTION_GROUPS items instead
and derives the path list from that.
…Sidebar

isUsageOpen matched against /settings/usage, but DashboardSidebarHeader only
renders while the sibling _dashboard route tree is mounted — so it could
never actually be true. Removes the dead matchRoute call and the ternaries
that depended on it; the rail button's visual behavior is unchanged since it
was already always rendering its "not open" state.

Move CheckResourcesHotkeyMount to its own component module.

This change adds a distinct component to CommandPaletteHost.tsx. Put it in CheckResourcesHotkeyMount/CheckResourcesHotkeyMount.tsx and export it through that folder’s index.ts.

As per coding guidelines, “One folder per component” and “One component per file” apply to this .tsx file.

- CheckResourcesHotkeyMount lived in CommandPaletteHost.tsx, which already
held two other components — extracts the shared hotkey/menu-subscription
logic to commandPalette/hooks/useCheckResourcesHotkey (used by both
CommandPaletteTrigger and the new mount) and moves the mount itself to its
own commandPalette/CheckResourcesHotkeyMount folder, per this repo's
  one-component-per-file / one-folder-per-component convention.
- SECTION_PATHS (consolidated from the old two-function lookup) still
omitted browser, agents, billing, apikeys, and security — on those five
settings pages, getSectionFromPath() returned null, so the search
auto-redirect effect silently no-opped instead of navigating to a
matching section. Registers all five with their real routes in both
  SECTION_PATHS and SECTION_ORDER.
selection was interpolated into a copied terminal command inside plain
double quotes, so a config-dir path containing \$(), backticks, or a literal
" could inject arbitrary shell syntax into whatever the user pastes it into.
Reuses quoteShellToken (already the single-quote POSIX escaper for command
strings elsewhere in argv.ts, now exported) instead of a bespoke
double-quoted format. Adds tests for command substitution, backticks, an
embedded single quote, and a double quote.
mb-4 left a noticeably larger gap above "Settings" than below it once the
Back link's own py-2 was accounted for.
…tton

py-3 on the outer container gave equal top/bottom padding; split it to
pt-1 pb-3 so the top only keeps the small breathing room it needs.

Move CommandPaletteTrigger into its own component module.

CommandPaletteHost.tsx contains both CommandPaletteHost and CommandPaletteTrigger. Move CommandPaletteTrigger to CommandPaletteTrigger/CommandPaletteTrigger.tsx, add its barrel export, and import it into this file.

As per coding guidelines, “One folder per component” and “One component per file” apply to this .tsx file.

…e command palette instead

Now that Usage lives under Settings and is a click away from the sidebar's
own Settings gear, the dedicated rail button (icon-only in the collapsed
rail, a full row in the expanded one) is redundant chrome.

Removing it in favor of a real command palette entry rather than nothing:
the existing "Usage" settings-tab entry only surfaces after first drilling
into "Settings" (children aren't flattened into top-level search), so it
never actually gave one-step access. Adds a top-level "Usage" action command
— reachable by typing "usage" directly, no drill-down — that reopens
whichever section (token usage / machine resources) was last visited, same
behavior the removed button had.
…folder

CommandPaletteHost.tsx held two components; every other mount it renders
alongside (DeleteWorkspaceMount, FolderImportMount, QuickCreateWorkspaceMount,
etc.) already lives in ui/<Name>/<Name>.tsx, making this file the outlier.
Moves CommandPaletteTrigger to ui/CommandPaletteTrigger/ to match, leaving
CommandPaletteHost.tsx as a single component.

* feat(desktop, cli): add showUsageInSidebar setting with migration and CLI key

Nullable boolean column on the local-db settings table (migration 0056,
generated by drizzle-kit), tRPC getShowUsageInSidebar/setShowUsageInSidebar
mirroring showResourceMonitor, DEFAULT_SHOW_USAGE_IN_SIDEBAR = false, and the
matching `superset settings` registry key so the CLI coverage test stays
green. Default off so nothing changes for users who do not opt in.

* feat(desktop): add the "Usage in sidebar" switch to Settings > General

Registers the item for Settings search (v2 only, since only the v2
DashboardSidebar can show the button) and adds the switch row with the same
optimistic tRPC mutation shape as Resource monitor. Search tests cover the
"sidebar" and "shortcut" queries and the v1 exclusion.

* feat(desktop): restore the sidebar Usage button behind the new setting

Brings back the LuGauge "Usage" entry that #6883 removed, in the same place
in both the collapsed rail and the expanded sidebar (right after Pull
requests) and with the same click behaviour (last visited Usage section).
It renders only while showUsageInSidebar is on, so the default sidebar is
unchanged. The old aria-current route match is not restored: the home
sidebar is unmounted while Settings is open, so it could never be active.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016gKWUtGmpPRRdeRwGNZKAE

* i18n(desktop): translate the "Usage in sidebar" setting strings

Regenerated catalogs for the two new General-tab strings and hand-filled all
16 non-English locales, reusing each catalog's existing renderings of
"Usage" and "Pull requests" (inflected where the language needs it). The
sidebar button itself reuses the existing "Usage" message.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016gKWUtGmpPRRdeRwGNZKAE

* fix(review): drop the internal "v2" term from the CLI setting description

The agent-native review pass flagged that "v2 home sidebar" is the only
registry description using internal version vocabulary, which nothing in the
CLI or the settings skill defines. Match the plain wording of the UI hint.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016gKWUtGmpPRRdeRwGNZKAE

* fix(desktop): save showUsageInSidebar to the row getSettings() reads

Legacy local DBs can hold a settings row with a non-1 id; upserting id 1
there splits settings across two rows. Review feedback on #7191.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016gKWUtGmpPRRdeRwGNZKAE

* fix(i18n): clarify the ja/ko/zh "Usage in sidebar" labels and the pt-BR hint

The CJK labels read as "the sidebar's usage"; phrase them as "show usage
in the sidebar". pt-BR: "barra lateral da página inicial" and quote the
Uso / Pull requests nav labels. Review feedback on #7191.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016gKWUtGmpPRRdeRwGNZKAE

* fix(desktop): refine Usage navigation and retain cached results

* test(desktop): isolate Usage cache lifecycle coverage
