Summary

  • Replace the environment panel's navigation-only Git actions button with a native menu for Commit, Pull, Push, Create draft PR, and Create branch.
  • Add a visible Commit and push… shortcut that opens change selection and focuses the commit summary without silently committing files; reset stale amend mode.
  • Reuse existing background Git operations and credential-aware PR/branch forms, synchronizing the active checkout before hidden-panel actions.
  • Cover menu keyboard dispatch, Escape dismissal, unavailable actions, checkout changes, commit focus, and draft PR handoff with GPUI regression tests.

Verification

  • cargo nextest run --no-fail-fast -p threadlane-ui-chat -p threadlane-ui-right-panel -p threadlane-ui-workspace: 158 passed.
  • Seven focused environment tests passed.
  • cargo check -p threadlane-gpui: passed (existing warnings).
  • git diff --check: passed.
  • The first broader test run failed the existing reasoning-disclosure Space-key assertion; the full rerun passed without code changes. No manual visual verification was performed.

Closes #291

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a “Commit and push…” shortcut and a Git menu for committing changes, pulling or pushing branches, creating draft pull requests, and creating branches.
    • Git actions are available according to checkout status, changed files, and remote availability.
    • Git Review now opens on the Changes tab with the commit message field focused when starting a commit.

Walkthrough

The environment panel adds commit, pull, push, draft pull-request, and branch actions. Workspace handlers route these actions to Git Review, Git operations, and the right-panel interfaces.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Environment controls and action availability
crates/threadlane-ui-chat/src/lib.rs, crates/threadlane-ui-chat/src/view.rs, crates/threadlane-ui-chat/src/tests.rs
The environment panel adds commit and Git menu controls. The controls enable or disable actions based on checkout status. Tests cover visibility, dispatch, dismissal, and unavailable actions.
Workspace action routing
crates/threadlane-ui-workspace/src/view.rs
Workspace handlers route commit, pull, push, draft pull-request, and branch actions to Git Review and the relevant UI or Git operation.
Right-panel commit and pull-request handling
crates/threadlane-ui-right-panel/src/view.rs
The right panel adds commit UI setup and synchronizes the active project and cached status before opening the draft pull-request dialog. Tests cover both flows.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to f53d9

Some Git actions appear available but fail or show a warning when selected. This is a bounded usability issue; the PR is mergeable with a follow-up to align menu availability with each action.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to f53d9

The new one-click Pull and Push actions can proceed after the checkout changes, creating a plausible risk of operating on a branch other than the one shown when the action was chosen. The risk is limited to Git repositories and remotes accessible to the user; the commit and draft pull-request shortcuts retain additional steps.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: New Pull and Push actions validate menu-time status but do not carry or revalidate checkout and branch identity before background Git execution. A checkout change between selection and execution can direct the operation to an unintended branch or leave it running against a worktree that is no longer active.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The plausible unintended effect is a Git pull in a user-accessible worktree or a push to its configured remote. The inspected route does not establish a tenant-wide service or credential handoff through workspace.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — If a checkout changes after menu eligibility is determined, the stateless action can reach Pull or Push without a branch-identity check at execution. Whether an untrusted or non-user event source can dispatch these actions has not been established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Menu availability checks cached status; the Git execution method does not repeat its remote, named-branch, or detached-state checks. In contrast, the draft-PR entrypoint repeats eligibility checks before opening its dialog.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Project-path comparison prevents a completed action from replacing status for a different active project. It does not constrain the worker before execution or distinguish branches sharing one worktree path.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Carry the selected worktree and branch identity through dispatch and revalidate them immediately before Pull or Push; make refresh ordering explicit rather than relying on a refresh started alongside execution.

P2 Badge Refresh cached status before opening the draft-PR dialog

When the panel already holds a non-None status for the same worktree, sync_project returns early and this condition skips the newer status in AppState. If the branch changes while the panel is hidden, the environment shortcut opens a dialog keyed and prefilled for the previous branch; the subsequent background review refresh then invalidates it and forces the user to close and reopen it. Replace the cached status from the active model before deriving the dialog key.

P2 Badge Require an upstream before enabling Pull

For a newly created local branch with an origin remote but no tracking branch, can_sync is true and enables Pull. The dispatched handler reaches threadlane_git::pull, which runs git pull --ff-only without a repository or refspec (crates/threadlane-git/src/git.rs:1074), so Git rejects this common unpublished-branch case for missing tracking information. Require status.has_upstream for Pull while leaving Push available to publish the branch.

P2 Badge Gate draft PRs with the canonical readiness predicate

A remote and branch name are insufficient for draft-PR creation: branches without an upstream or commits over the base, failed PR lookup, and branches that already have a PR all pass can_sync, but open_draft_pr_dialog immediately rejects them via the stricter can_create_pull_request predicate and often shows an inaccurate publish warning. Use the existing readiness rules for this menu item rather than advertising an action that cannot open.
