install: on a file install breaks usrmerge on ubuntu 26.04

We are using install -D to install binaries in /sbin.

e.g. install -D -m 644 /sbin/

On doing so it wipes the symlink which is in /usr/sbin/ making everything there inaccessible.

This is quite dangerous.

Maybe but is this not insane? On ubuntu 26.04 right now anything that installs to /bin /sbin removes symlinks and access to wpa_supplicant, depmod, lsmod and a tonne of binaries? Okay maybe it isn't too bad because ubuntu has /usr/sbin and /usr/bin in PATH too. Still is dangerous because any scripts that rely on pre usrshare move will break.

install -D is fundamentally broken.

You can run update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/install install /usr/bin/gnuinstall 100 on Ubuntu 26.04 to use gnu install by default
