I just get Exception: No matching devices found on systemctl status python3-validity??

Any support ever coming for this as validity90 is dead?

Will pay for this.

Hey @arhippa11 — sorry this has been open so long. Just published a working install for 138a:00ab (HP EliteBook 840 G5) and the related 06cb:00b7:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:devtochukwu/fingerprint
sudo apt install python3-validity

Builds for Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04, 25.10, and 26.04. After install, enroll a finger via Settings → Users → Fingerprint Login, or sudo fprintd-enroll -f right-index-finger $USER. sudo and screen unlock get wired up automatically by the postinst. Hope this helps!

138a:00ab support is live in PR #256. Two chips share this USB ID and both are now handled:

• HP EliteBook 840 G5 — sensor type 0xd51. Verified end-to-end (enroll, verify, sudo, GNOME Settings) on Ubuntu 25.10 and 26.04, cross-confirmed on Fedora 43/44 and Arch by other testers in the thread.
• HP ZBook Studio x360 G5 — sensor type 0x969 (same PID, different silicon). Added by @ggiesen in SimpleX-T/python-validity#2, verified on his hardware.

PR #256 also carries the post-resume recovery for 0x969 chips (thanks @Karloss1234) and defensive USB reset in open_dev() for the "chip vanishes on reboot" case (thanks @Killersparrow1 for reporting on #238).

Available from the PPA today: ppa:devtochukwu/fingerprint covers jammy/noble/questing/resolute. 0.16~hp8 incoming with the latest fixes above.
