"working" throbber for typeahead #6807

Description

@atuttle

When a typeahead control's source requires an API hit, it could be some significant amount of time -- I'd say even just a half second is enough to be considered significant -- before results are displayed. It would be nice if there were a throbber displayed over top of the input. Maybe something like this:

Of course you'd want to be able to enable/disable the feature (off by default).

    Seems unlikely given #6454.

    We won't be adding our own spinner to use anywhere—there are plenty of resources out there for it already. However, I can see this potentially needing a spinner, but I'm unsure if that's something we need to solve. Open to hearing more about how useful folks would find this.

    If not an actual throbber, how about a container in which we can place our own throbber that properly places it self at the right edge of the input?

    @atuttle That seems pretty straightforward to do on your own as well though—and depends on the size of the spinner.

    IMO the same argument could be made for not having button classes. The
    question is just where you draw the line.

    That feels like a bit of a stretch to me, but I do agree that the same argument can be made for other components—existing or yet to be added. The reason this is different is because we don't include spinners (and likely won't) and there are dozens of them out there, all at different sizes, colors, speeds, etc. Attempting to create an empty container that fits for most folks' needs seems tough. I suppose in that case we would say "use this exact spinner", but we prefer to avoid those kinds of situations.

    Thinking on this some more, we won't be adding it. Thanks though!
