Agents continue a stopped delegated task in its own thread #203
What: Chromeria's agent instructions tell agents to continue the same delegated job in its existing child thread (t3_thread_send + t3_thread_wait) and to start a new delegate_task only for independent work such as a fresh review round. Why: The instructions only say not to reuse a child for review rounds, so agents start a fresh child (losing its context) when a delegated job stopped on a blocker the user then cleared, as happened with the App Store Connect setup on 2026-10-09. So what: Implemented in the linked PR; the user approves the merge.
Contribution to the Objective
Drafters start as children; the planner must be able to resume a child's work instead of restarting it.
Acceptance criteria
The injected orchestration instructions and the short tool-use block both state: same job after a stop, question or cleared blocker → send to the task's childThreadId and wait on that thread; new delegate_task only for independent work (fresh review round, different job).
The t3_thread_send tool description no longer reads as forbidding continuation of non-review work.
Non-goals
Changing upstream's wake contract (follow-up wakes, pingdotgg/t3code#13490, #14030 closed).
Blockers
None.
Proof
Focused instruction/tool description tests; server typecheck.
Elon record
Requirements and who asked: User asked to fix inside Chromeria that agents restart instead of continuing a delegated job. Deleted: Implementing follow-up wakes (upstream rejected without a scope ruling); a new tool parameter. Bottleneck: Agent behavior follows injected instructions, which only covered review rounds. Checked myself:T3OrchestrationInstructions.ts, toolInstructions.ts, t3_thread_send description, upstream triage on #13490 and closed #14030.
