Summary

  • Both /data and /issue create issues in REPO_DEV, configured as tarkovtracker-org/TarkovTracker. Legacy REPO_DATA_REPORT is optional and ignored. Data-specific formatting and route aliases are preserved; both forms link to public issues and explicitly disclose publication of Discord handles, references and details.
  • Pending feedback is visibly styled on both forms. Malformed non-string honeypot values return 400 invalid_report, not an internal/uncertain-delivery error.
  • Shared policy remains five attempts per rolling minute, 20 delivered reports per rolling 12 hours and a 10-minute delivery cooldown, with IPv6 /56 grouping. Reservations prevent duplicate delivery; proven failures release capacity, while ambiguous delivery retains bounded protection and drafts.
  • Provider backoff is enforced across every client and both routes, including staged uploads. Full provider/local waits are combined without discarding uncertain-report warnings or leaking temporary reservations.
  • Centralized web environment validation, added npm run build syntax validation and a CI audit:prod gate, and corrected hosting/origin guidance. Exact transitive security patches are isolated in fix(deps): pin follow-redirects credential-leak patches #39 (follow-redirects@1.16.1) and fix(deps): pin ip-address zone-validation patch #40 (ip-address@10.7.4); both current dependency heads are already included here.
  • Fixed production-only startup: the existing concurrently@9.2.4 launcher is now an exactly pinned runtime dependency. npm ci --omit=dev no longer removes the executable required by npm start. No package versions changed in this classification fix.

Validation at 464835d

  • Local Node 24.21.0: 134 tests passed, zero failures/skips, including a real nested-transitive layout and a production-only install; 27 JavaScript files passed syntax validation; git diff --check passed.
  • GitHub CI on Node 20 passed on this exact head, including the same 134 tests, build and zero-advisory production audit. All displayed CodeQL, Snyk, Socket, CodeRabbit and cubic checks passed.
  • Regression failures were demonstrated before corrections. In-memory negative controls additionally detected a discarded provider hold, skipped post-parser hold, leaked reservation, delayed expired-capacity cleanup, active-budget eviction and ignored compiler errors. Earlier controls detected both vulnerable dependency behaviors and the original allowance/ownership defects. New controls reproduced missing root-level transitive imports, detected the IPv6 subprocess's bare-import regression, and failed the launcher regression before its fix. A production-only install previously made npm start -- --help exit 127 (concurrently: not found); it now exits successfully without launching either service.
  • Registry validation verified 134 signatures and 16 attestations. Security exceptions were vetted against publisher metadata, lifecycle scripts, tarball integrity and upstream tags; rebuilding the tagged ip-address distribution matched registry output byte-for-byte.
  • Earlier real Chrome checks on the unchanged web implementation (desktop and 390px mobile), against a mocked provider: visible pending states, duplicate prevention, retained rejected/unconfirmed drafts, uncertainty blocking, successful delivery, public links/notices and destination URLs for both forms. No live GitHub reports were submitted. LSP requests timed out, so syntax/tests—not an unconfirmed LSP result—are the validation evidence.

Rollout hold / remaining work

Green code checks do not establish production readiness. No merge, deployment, production data or configuration mutation was performed.

  • The hosting management API returned 401; actual runtime configuration remains unverified. Confirm REPO_DEV, valid allowed origins, production token issue-write permission, the existing single-hop trust proxy = 1 path, forwarding-header sanitation and origin isolation.
  • Confirm a single serving web process, including deployment overlap, and explicitly accept that restarts clear allowances, cooldowns, uncertain-delivery holds and provider throttles. Stronger guarantees require an approved shared/persistent store.
  • Production /health returns 200, but does not test delivery or topology. The PR preview still fails TLS negotiation, so deployed preview validation remains blocked.
  • The bounded 10,000-client table deliberately does not evict active security budgets. Expired slots are reclaimed promptly; sustained multi-key exhaustion and the low-priority expiry-aware sweep optimization remain tracked in Harden public report capacity without evicting active security budgets #41. The post-push P3 thread was resolved as explicitly tracked, not fixed.

Local review suggestions to re-enable uncertain-delivery retries after confirmation and relax the unconditional low-threshold audit were rejected: a process-local, IP-keyed hold is not durable duplicate protection, and the repository policy requires a fail-closed audit for all production advisories. These controls remain unchanged.

Conditional merge plan

The user authorized merging if production-ready; merge authorization is not the blocker. PR #39 alone still audits one moderate ip-address vulnerability, and #40 alone still audits one high follow-redirects vulnerability. Keep their fixes together. Once the actual runtime/proxy/token checks and restart-state acceptance are established, gate the exact current #38 head and use a merge commit (not squash/rebase) to preserve the dependency heads; GitHub can then mark #39/#40 merged indirectly. All three current heads have green checks and no unresolved review threads.

Operator commands and rollout checklist are in README.md. Implementation worktree: /home/lab/TrackerBot-pr38, branch fix/report-limits-errors. Dependency branches: fix/deps-follow-redirects-1-16-1 and fix/deps-ip-address-10-7-4. Next local verification: npm ci && npm run build && npm test && npm run audit:prod; deployment verification needs operator access and approval for any live test issue.

Related: tarkovtracker-org/TarkovTracker#1229. This PR does not establish the original production failure's cause. Earlier stale-settlement, mapped-IP and attempt-budget review dispositions remain recorded in their resolved stale-settlement, mapped-IP and attempt-budget threads.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Data and website report forms disclose that submissions—including contact details and links—will be published as public GitHub issues and warn against sharing sensitive information.
    • Both forms show field-length limits and shared submission limits: five attempts per minute, up to 20 reports per IP in 12 hours, and at least 10 minutes between reports. Invalid submissions count toward the attempt limit, and people sharing an IP address or IPv6 prefix share limits.
    • Forms link to published reports and advise checking for a submission before resending if delivery is uncertain.
  • Improvements
    • Forms prevent duplicate submissions, retain drafts after recognized errors, show retry guidance when available, and announce status updates to assistive technologies.

The change adds shared server-side limits and GitHub delivery handling for /data and /issue. Both forms use a shared client-side submission handler. The README and environment example document routing, limits, delivery outcomes, and deployment requirements. CI adds a build check and production dependency audit.

Changes: Report submission flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared admission policy
src/web/report-policy.js, test/report-policy.test.js, README.md
The policy tracks per-client attempts, report events, pending reservations, and uncertain deliveries. It applies rolling limits, cooldowns, and client-state capacity, and returns wait information. Tests cover policy boundaries and settlement outcomes. The README documents these limits and process-local state.
HTTP admission and GitHub delivery
src/web/report-app.js, src/config/env.js, webserver.js, .env.example, test/report-app.test.js, test/env.test.js, README.md
The app validates report requests, checks admission, sends GitHub issue requests, and settles reservations based on delivery results. Both forms route reports to REPO_DEV. The server validates required environment variables and starts the app. Integration tests cover request validation, delivery outcomes, and parser errors.
Shared browser form behavior
web/report-form.js, web/data/index.html, web/issue/index.html, web/styles.css, test/report-form.test.js, README.md
Both forms use the shared handler and set field limits. The handler prevents concurrent or uncertain resubmissions, applies wait periods, and preserves drafts after failures. The forms disclose public issue publication and show submission guidance. Tests cover form behavior.
Build checks and dependency validation
scripts/check-syntax.js, package.json, .github/workflows/ci.yml, test/build.test.js, test/ip-security.test.js, test/redirect-security.test.js
The build script checks JavaScript syntax, and CI runs it with a production dependency audit. Dependency overrides pin follow-redirects and ip-address. Tests cover syntax checking, IPv6 parsing and grouping, and sensitive-header handling across redirects.

Production-readiness review of 61cbf1615e284aa4fb468c3334a4df0024b960ec: code review passed; merge remains BLOCKED on the existing rollout hold.

  • Full diff and independent correctness review found no significant code defect. Current head has successful CI/security checks and CodeRabbit approval; all 12 review threads are resolved. Base remains 23ca4c93980f3e3df98cb5ff3c7b4cb5170de76b.
  • Fresh locked npm ci --ignore-scripts reported zero vulnerabilities. All 98 tests passed locally on Node 24.21.0; all 23 JavaScript files passed syntax checks. The existing CI log also confirms 98 passing tests.
  • In-memory negative controls confirmed that regression tests fail for an incorrect report allowance, missing stale-settlement ownership guard, counting proven failures, and charging an extra attempt on reservation denial. Repository files were never mutated.
  • Real Chrome behavior checks with a loopback server and fake GitHub delivery confirmed pending-submit disabling, one POST despite duplicate submission, preserved fields after provider rejection, and preserved fields plus blocked repeat after uncertain delivery. Screenshots were visually inspected. No live reports were submitted; temporary server, browser pages, screenshots, and review worktree were removed. No code changes or new branch.

Still required before a production-ready verdict: inspect the actual web-service process/replica count and restart behavior, confirm origin isolation and forwarding-header rewriting match trust proxy = 1, and verify ALLOWED_ORIGINS includes the deployed form origin. The public https://trackerbot.nivmizz7.dev/health endpoint returns 200 through Cloudflare, but public HTTP cannot establish these deployment properties. This repository contains no hosting manifest or deployment workflow, and GitHub exposes no deployment records.

Process-local counters reset on restart and are independent across replicas. Confirm that this limitation is acceptable for the verified hosting topology, or address shared/persistent enforcement in an approved follow-up. The deployment details have been requested from the operator. After that evidence is available, recheck the current PR head/checks and merge with gh pr merge 38 --repo tarkovtracker-org/TrackerBot --squash --match-head-commit <verified-head-sha> only if the rollout hold is resolved. No merge was performed.

Hosting evidence found after the operator supplied https://trackerbot.nivmizz7.dev/: Niv confirmed on PR #28 that Coolify auto-deploys on commits to main. The public health endpoint currently returns HTTP 200 through Cloudflare; public DNS also points to Cloudflare.

This identifies the last documented deployment platform, but does not verify the current Coolify configuration. In particular, merging may immediately deploy this PR. The existing rollout hold remains until the current web-service replica/process count, proxy/header handling and origin isolation, and ALLOWED_ORIGINS are verified in Coolify. The operator does not currently know the hosting details; Coolify access or configuration evidence from Niv is needed. Code-review and test conclusions above are unchanged. No merge or production configuration change performed.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Validate company before checking the honeypot.

A JSON request can set company to an object such as {"toString":null}. The honeypot check then throws before policy.reserve and githubPost. Express 5 forwards the rejected route promise to the global handler, which returns internal_error. The browser treats internal_error as uncertain and disables the submit button for that form instance, although no provider request was attempted.

Suggested fix
-    if ((req.body?.company ?? "").toString().trim()) return res.json({ ok: true });

+      return sendError(res, 400, "invalid_report", "company must be text.");

Pushed the readiness fixes to 4a4fdf1. Both forms now target the public tarkovtracker-org/TarkovTracker repository through REPO_DEV; legacy REPO_DATA_REPORT is ignored. Visible pending feedback, malformed-honeypot validation, shared provider backoff, public-publication notices, build/start guidance and both dependency advisory chains are addressed.

Validation: 133 passing tests locally and in Node 20 CI, 27 syntax-checked files, zero production audit advisories, detected negative controls, and desktop/mobile Chrome interaction checks with a mocked GitHub provider. All current-head checks are green. Separate advisory PRs #39 and #40 are also green and already included in this branch.

Production rollout remains blocked: the hosting API returned 401, so runtime origins, proxy/header sanitation, origin isolation, serving-process/deployment overlap and production token issue-write permissions remain unverified. Process-local restart behavior needs explicit operator acceptance. The preview still fails TLS negotiation; production /health alone does not verify delivery.

The remaining multi-key capacity hardening and low-priority expiry-aware sweep optimization are tracked with reproduction and safety invariants in #41. The P3 review thread was resolved as tracked, not fixed; active attempt budgets were deliberately not evicted to make room.

No merge/deployment or production data/configuration mutation occurred. The PR body and README.md contain the updated checklist and handoff. Live branch/worktree: fix/report-limits-errors / /home/lab/TrackerBot-pr38; next verification command is npm ci && npm run build && npm test && npm run audit:prod. Browser/server test artifacts were cleaned up.

Conditional merge gate: BLOCKED

The requested production-readiness recheck found and fixed two further gaps:

Proven: 134 tests pass in the combined tree, including nested and production-only installations; build checks 27 files; production audit is zero; 134 registry signatures / 16 attestations verify; all three current-head GitHub check sets are green and all review threads are resolved. The latest local review's suggestions to relax the audit and re-enable uncertain retries were rejected to preserve fail-closed controls.

Not proven: production origins, proxy/header sanitation and origin isolation, process/deployment-overlap topology, production token issue-write permission, and acceptance of restart-cleared state. Coolify still returns 401 and the preview still fails TLS. /health only confirms the current HTTP process is running.

No merges or deployment/configuration/data mutations were made. #39 alone still has the other moderate production advisory; #40 alone still has the other high advisory. Keep their fixes together. Once the operator supplies read access and resolves the runtime/restart-state checks, gate #38's exact head and merge with a merge commit to preserve the included #39/#40 histories and allow indirect merges. Do not use this to bypass any gate on the child PRs.

Handoff: /home/lab/TrackerBot-pr38 on fix/report-limits-errors; dependency worktrees are /home/lab/TrackerBot-deps-follow and /home/lab/TrackerBot-deps-ip.
