Available on the Godot Asset Library and Github.
I gave a Lightning talk about this addon at Godot Con Boston! Here are the slides.
Log.gd provides a drop-in replacement for GDScript's print(...) function.
It colors the output based on the value passed in, and adds a prefix based on the call-site's file and line number.
This makes Godot's Output buffer much more readable! And now, I can't live without it :eyeroll:
Log.pr(...)is aprints(...)replacement (includes spaces between args)Log.prn(...),Log.prnn(...), andLog.prnnn(...)are the same, but include limited newlines + tabs when printing nested arrays and dictionaries- Both add prefix with the calling filename and line number (e.g.
[Player:34]) - Both color the output values based on the value's type
Log.debug(...),Log.info(...),Log.warn(...),Log.error(...)offer differing log levels
Godot 4.5 introduced a splat operator, which allows for significant clean up in
this tool. If you need a Godot 4.4 or earlier version, the godot-4.4 branch
should work: https://github.com/russmatney/log.gd/tree/godot-4.4
We don't expect to backport features to this older build unless it is requested, so reach out if you need something. Otherwise, onward!
There are some other great printers/loggers with a variety of features - check them out!
- gg.print
- Loggie
- LogFox - comparing values across runs
- GoLogger - more production/release angled

Huge thanks to the Log.gd contributors!
See Contributing.md for full Contribution Guidelines.
Log.gd adopt's Godot's AI-contribution Policy, which discourages AI-based contributions and interactions.
This is a small project that collaborators work on in limited free time - we prefer to minimize slop and enjoy the code.
