Adds Linux arm64 to CI and the release flow.

Release (release.yml)

  • build: new linux-arm64 entry, target aarch64-unknown-linux-musl, on blacksmith-16vcpu-ubuntu-2404-arm. It builds natively, so the existing tsc checks (static-link check, Alpine docker run) also run on arm64. The musl CC_<target> export now comes from the matrix target instead of being hardcoded for x86_64.
  • package: npm-pack.sh --also linux-arm64=… and a tsc-rs-<v>-linux-arm64.tar.gz archive. pack.mjs already handles any <os>-<arch>.
  • verify: new linux-arm64 entry on GitHub-hosted ubuntu-24.04-arm. As with x64 and macOS, the build runs on Blacksmith and the install check on GitHub-hosted.
  • release: publishes @tsc-rs/linux-arm64 with the other platform packages, before tsc-rs.

CI (ci.yml)

  • Test matrix adds blacksmith-16vcpu-ubuntu-2404-arm. This is the first arm64 test run, so arm-only failures may show up here (fail-fast: false keeps the other legs reporting).

npm

  • npm/trust-setup.sh now includes @tsc-rs/linux-arm64; the READMEs list the platform.

Before the next tag

@tsc-rs/linux-arm64 is not on npm yet, and trusted publishing can't create it. Shortly before the next tag (npm drops an unused new trust after 2 days), run plain npm/trust-setup.sh: it publishes the placeholder, adds its trust and leaves the other three packages unchanged. No --relink: v0.1.0 already published from the recreated repo. Otherwise the publish fails on that package.

jemalloc page size

jemalloc takes its page size from the build host (4 KiB on the runner) and stops at start on a bigger kernel page (<jemalloc>: Unsupported system page size). The aarch64 build sets JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE=16, so the tsc runs on 4, 16 (Asahi, Raspberry Pi 5) and 64 KiB (RHEL-family, Ubuntu -64k) arm64 kernels. The CI and verify runners all use 4 KiB pages, so they do not test this.

Conflict with #8

#8 moves the Linux env into a Build environment step that writes CC_x86_64_unknown_linux_musl to GITHUB_ENV. Whichever merges second must write CC_${target//-/_}=musl-gcc and the aarch64 JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE=16 in that step instead.

Runners

Label Notes
Blacksmith blacksmith-{2,4,8,16,32}vcpu-ubuntu-2404-arm 16vcpu: 48 GB RAM, 750 GB disk (docs)
GitHub-hosted ubuntu-24.04-arm arm64 standard runner, 4 vCPU on public repos (changelog)

This PR changes release.yml, so its build, package and verify jobs run on this PR (no publish).

Merge Risk

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 05d67

Linux ARM64 is included across the release flow, and the trust instructions clarify that the 2026-10-07 repository recreation needs no relink. No concrete change-specific issue currently blocks merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 05d67

Linux arm64 follows the existing build, verification and publishing controls. Package setup and interrupted publication have repeat-run recovery paths. No introduced security defect was established, but the actual publishing permissions and approval settings still require operational verification.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new authority covers @tsc-rs/linux-arm64 and executable distribution to its consumers. A compromised arm64 build path could supply malicious platform output, while compromise of the existing publishing identity retains its broader reach across the package set. The PR adds a platform under the existing trust model rather than introducing a new general-purpose credential.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Workflow-wide permissions remain contents:read; build checkouts disable credential persistence and pull requests cannot save the release build cache. Only the publishing job declares contents:write and id-token:write, and it uses the npm environment. Required environment reviewers are documented as an external setting, not proven by repository source.
  • observed — Trust setup accepts any list containing a matching trust, even if additional trusts exist. This behavior predates the PR and is not evidence that an unauthorized trust exists. The PR applies the same mechanism to the new package; the actual trust list remains unverified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Revocation is conditional on explicitly selecting --relink. The new guidance directs maintainers to use plain trust-setup.sh when adding the platform package, avoiding the inherited revoke-before-recreate interruption window for existing packages.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Before the first arm64 release, verify the new package's complete trust list and the npm environment's approval settings. Confirm the documented repository binding operationally rather than treating a matching repository name as proof of its current identity.

This is close. Before merge, it needs three changes and green runs.

1. jemalloc page size (must fix). jemalloc takes its page size from the build host. tikv-jemalloc-sys only overrides that for iOS. This build runs on a runner with 4 KiB pages, so the tsc would die at start on a 16 KiB kernel (Asahi, Raspberry Pi 5) or a 64 KiB kernel (RHEL-family and Ubuntu -64k arm64 kernels). The error is <jemalloc>: Unsupported system page size (jemalloc/src/pages.c, pages_boot). The Alpine check and the ubuntu-24.04-arm verify both run on 4 KiB kernels, so they cannot catch it. Suggested change in the Build step:

target=${{ matrix.target }}
export "CC_${target//-/_}=musl-gcc"
# jemalloc stops at start when the kernel page is bigger than its build page. arm64 kernels
# use 4, 16 or 64 KiB pages; 2^16 covers all three.
[[ $target != aarch64-* ]] || export JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE=16

2. Root README. README.md line 64 still says "Windows and Linux arm64 are not available yet."

3. Trust setup note. --relink is no longer needed: v0.1.0 already published from the recreated repo. Plain npm/trust-setup.sh publishes the @tsc-rs/linux-arm64 placeholder, adds its trust and does not change the other three packages. We will run it shortly before the next tag (npm drops an unused new trust after 2 days).

Runs. CI and Release show action_required on this PR, so the arm64 legs have not run yet. We will approve them. This is the first Linux arm64 test run, so we need test (...-arm), build (linux-arm64) and verify (linux-arm64) green before merge.

Conflict with #8. #8 (PGO release builds) moves the Linux env into a Build environment step that writes CC_x86_64_unknown_linux_musl to GITHUB_ENV. Whichever PR merges second conflicts in release.yml. When you resolve it, write CC_${target//-/_}=musl-gcc (and the aarch64 JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE) in that step. Do not keep the hardcoded x64 name: then the arm64 build silently loses musl-gcc.

Thanks. All three changes are in cca4e6d9.

1. jemalloc page size. The Build step in release.yml now sets JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE=16 for aarch64-* targets, as you suggested. That covers 4, 16 and 64 KiB arm64 kernels. The x64 build is unchanged.

2. Root README. README.md now lists the platforms as "Linux x64 and arm64 (static, any distribution) and macOS arm64". Only Windows is still listed as not available.

3. Trust setup note. npm/README.md no longer says to run --relink before the next release. It now says the 2026-10-07 recreation needs no relink because v0.1.0 already published from the new repo. It also says plain npm/trust-setup.sh, run shortly before the next tag, publishes the new package's placeholder and adds its trust without changing the other packages. The "Before the next tag" section of the PR description says the same.

Runs. These have not run yet. We need test (...-arm), build (linux-arm64) and verify (linux-arm64) green after you approve them. All of those runners use 4 KiB pages, so they do not test the page-size fix.

Conflict with #8. The PR description now includes your resolution note: write CC_${target//-/_}=musl-gcc and the aarch64 JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE=16 in #8's Build environment step, not the hardcoded x64 name.

The macOS test failure on this PR is already on main. The same test (frontend::compiler::file_loader::tests::workers_resolve_with_the_reference_redirect_of_the_loader) fails at the same line (file_loader.rs:2979) in the latest main CI run, at 668ffaad. This PR changes no Rust code: it changes only workflow, README and npm/ files. The Linux x64 and arm64 test jobs pass.

Right, the macOS failure was on main, not in this PR: a loader test named the temp dir by its plain path while the resolver gives the real one (/var is a symlink to /private/var on macOS). It is fixed on main in dec556a, and main CI is green again on macOS. A merge of main into this branch (or a rerun after it) should clear that job. The three review items are addressed and every other check passes; merging is Theo's call.

npm tsc-rs 0.1.0 has no @tsc-rs/linux-arm64, so the root README names
the first release after 0.1.0 for it. The by-hand pack command in
npm/README.md adds the linux-arm64 tsc, as the workflow does.

Thanks @IAmJSD, this is good work. I read the full diff and the release flow. No new secrets, the publish order stays platform packages first, and verify (linux-arm64) installs and runs the packed arm64 tsc on ubuntu-24.04-arm.

I added two commits to the branch:

  • A merge of current main.
  • 05d6726: npm tsc-rs 0.1.0 has no @tsc-rs/linux-arm64, so the root README now says Linux arm64 comes in the first release after 0.1.0. The by-hand pack command in npm/README.md now lists linux-arm64 too.

All checks pass on 05d6726, including test (...-arm), build (linux-arm64) and verify (linux-arm64). Merging now. Before the next tag, we run plain npm/trust-setup.sh for the new package, as the PR text says. #8 resolves its release.yml conflict next.

release.yml: the Build environment step writes CC_<target>=musl-gcc for
the matrix target, and JEMALLOC_SYS_WITH_LG_PAGE=16 for aarch64, so the
plain and the PGO build of both Linux tsc use them. The header keeps the
PGO text and the arm64 platform line.

followups38 is main 8ac70c6 plus 7 commits, so this merge also brings
main's PR code (pingdotgg#8, pingdotgg#10, pingdotgg#19, pingdotgg#30) and the light flake fix bf57472.

Conflict: crates/ts_goport/tests/early_emit.rs.
- ours (int56, eeflake1): the full K2 test change; build_emit_only_solution
uses Solution and waits with Solution::wait_for_a_later_mtime.
- theirs (main bf57472): only the mtime wait (free fn

Took ours, as state note main-flake-fix-2026-10-09 says (int56 carries
the full eeflake1 change, which includes the mtime wait).
