Closes #7570

What Changed

Preserved the user shell PATH order during Windows environment hydration. Known package-manager CLI directories now append as fallbacks rather than taking priority.

Why

A stale %APPDATA%\npm\codex.cmd shim could be selected ahead of the user's working Codex executable, causing an opaque app-server protocol error. Keeping shell PATH precedence makes bare provider commands resolve the same way they do in the user's terminal.

Checklist

  • This PR is small and focused
  • I explained what changed and why

Model: gpt-5.6-terra
Harness: Codex

Note

Medium Risk
Changes how every Windows spawn resolves commands via resolveWindowsEnvironment (e.g. server os-jank), so wrong ordering could still break CLI discovery—but the change is narrowly scoped to PATH merge precedence with tests covering the main flows.

Overview
Windows PATH hydration now keeps shell and inherited entries ahead of hard-coded package-manager directories when building the baseline environment in resolveWindowsEnvironment.

The merge order flips from known CLI dirs first to merged shell PATH first, with npm/nodejs/Volta/pnpm/bun/scoop paths appended only as fallbacks for GUI-launched processes that lack a full interactive PATH. That avoids stale shims (e.g. %APPDATA%\npm\codex.cmd) winning over the same commands the user gets in a terminal.

shell.test.ts expectations were updated for the baseline, profile-loaded, and profile-fallback cases so PATH ordering matches the new priority rules.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 34886fd

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped Windows PATH bug fix that preserves the shell's existing command priority while retaining known CLI directories as fallbacks. Runtime impact is confined to environment hydration, and the affected baseline and profile flows are covered by tests.

Verified fix(shared): preserve Windows shell PATH priority (#8748) on pr-8748 (34886fd).

Environment: Windows, pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/shell.test.ts — mocked WindowsShellEnvironment/CommandAvailability, not a live pwsh.exe codex app-server spawn.

Scope: packages/shared/src/shell.ts:726-729 flips baselinePath from mergePathValues(knownCliPath, mergedPath) to mergePathValues(mergedPath, knownCliPath) — shell/inherited PATH keeps priority, resolveKnownWindowsCliDirs (npm/nodejs/Volta/pnpm/bun/scoop) appends only as fallback for GUI-launched processes. Matches #7570 root cause (stale %APPDATA% npm codex.cmd winning over where codex) and prior #6116 pattern.

Tests:

  • PR: pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/shell.test.ts → 29/29 PASS (3x resolveWindowsEnvironment + 26 others)
  • Revert check (shell.ts → main ordering, PR tests kept): 3 FAILED / 26 PASS — PATH prefix vs suffix mismatch as expected. Restore → 29 PASS again.

Surgical, no drive-bys. Would be good to also log resolved command + first stdout bytes on decode-wire-message failures in a follow-up, but out of scope here.

Verified as CDVolvik on Windows.

* fix(web): changing projects no longer creates a draft (pingdotgg#9097)

* docs(plans): t3o-31 upstream sync to v0.0.38

* fix(board): clear the ten pre-existing typecheck errors before the upstream sync (t3o-31 P0)

Two test fakes failed with a bare Error in the Effect failure channel, a
closure-assigned let narrowed to never, and a single-override pill read
overriddenRows[0] under noUncheckedIndexedAccess. None changed behaviour;
they were masked because the recursive typecheck never reached apps/server.

* fix(sync): the three type errors and two test failures the v0.0.38 merge caused

- BoardModelRow reads planModeEnabled from client settings, as the composer does.
- findBranchPullRequest resolves the default branch for upstream's widened PR
cache key instead of passing null.
- The orphaned-session integration test mocks the supervisor reactor that the
startup seam yields (new inventory row).
- The projection resume test seeds board projector watermarks into
boards.projection_state, where t3o-26 reads them, and asserts over the union.
- searchSettings("work") now also matches upstream's worktree/network items.

* refactor(board): native title attributes become BoardHint tooltips

Upstream's new no-native-title-tooltip rule flags every intrinsic-element
title= in the board (61 sites). BoardHint wraps the styled Tooltip primitive
and renders its child as the trigger, so layout is unchanged; a nullish label
renders the child alone.

* docs(seams): record the v0.0.38 sync (t3o-31)

Merge-log row, the decisions taken (plans stay tracked, upstream's settlement
reactor accepted after audit, projector-enumeration policy, launcher protocol
note), an unmarked-edits debt table for the next sync, a marker census, the
three new upstream workflows to disable, and the runbook's per-package
verification notes.

* review(t3o-31): announce the board's status dots, and order the merge log

Round-1 nitpicks: a bare span's aria-label is not announced, so the working,
running and awaiting dots now carry role="img"; the v0.0.38 merge-log row
moves below the two 2026-08-09 rows so the table reads chronologically.

> [!NOTE]
> TL;DR: Fix Windows PATH repair and File Explorer reveal behavior.

Windows-launched environments can inherit quoted PATH fragments or have
their shell PATH reordered behind guessed CLI directories. File links
can also reach the server with forward slashes, which Explorer
misinterprets inside its select switch.

Windows PATH entries are now sanitized while preserving shell priority.
Explorer receives native separators without changing the target recorded
by styal, and POSIX path behavior is unchanged.

* test(shared): update persistent-PATH expectation for upstream PATH order

Upstream pingdotgg#8748 moved the known Windows CLI directories from the front of
the resolved PATH to the end, and the merge updated upstream's tests but
not the fork's persistent-PATH test, so packages/shared failed on main.
The implementation is correct; the expected order now matches it.

* fix(voice): a new question right after an answer reaches the agent

The Codex voice bridge treated any ask_selected_agent call within 30 s of
an answer as a GPT-Live repeat ping and replied with the previous answer,
so a different follow-up question was never asked. Reuse the answer only
when the request matches the one it answered, and key the speak-once
dedupe on the request too, so two questions with the same answer are
both spoken.

* fix(notifications): re-registering a push token under a new device id

self_hosted_push_devices.expo_push_token is UNIQUE, but the register
upsert only resolved a device_id conflict. A device that came back with
a new device id and the same push token failed the insert (500 from
/api/notifications/device) while the stale row kept receiving its
pushes. Drop any other row holding the token in the same transaction
before upserting, so the newest registration wins.

* fix(mobile): report iPads and Android tablets as tablets again

A merge kept the fork's branded label but also its hard-coded
deviceType "mobile", dropping upstream's tablet detection, so every
tablet paired as a phone in the authorized-clients list. Restore the
Device.deviceType mapping. connection.test.ts now mocks expo-constants
(pulled in by the branding module), which is what kept this regression
from being caught.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(mobile): drop the desktop-only MT Code palette from the mobile theme picker

BUILT_IN_THEMES includes MT Code's palette, which by design ships to
web and desktop only, so the mobile picker listed an "MT Code" theme
that normalizeMobileThemeId discards on save. Filter it out.

mobileTheme.ts also imported the branding module (expo-constants) for
the default palette's label, which made 12 mobile test files fail to
load under Vitest. Mobile went back to T3's identity in ee2b9ff, so
the label is the literal again, and the two remaining tests that reach
branding mock expo-constants like the rest of the suite.

* fix(server): read the Claude rate-limit tier from CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR only

With CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR set, Claude Code keeps .claude.json in that
directory; the file in the home directory belongs to the default login.
The tier reader fell back to it anyway, so a configured account could
be labelled with another account's Max 5x/20x tier. Read only the file
the CLI would use.

The checkClaudeProviderStatus tests read the host's real ~/.claude.json
through that path and failed on any machine signed in to a Max 20x
account; they now point CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR at a missing directory. The
default provider list no longer expects a devin instance, matching
upstream since Devin moved to the ACP registry.

* test(server): fix the stale launcher message and a probe test that never ends

servicePreflight.test.ts still expected "T3 Code" in the launcher
message, which the fork builds from resolveAppDisplayName(). The stalled
usage probe test waited on the probe's real 4 s usage deadline under a
TestClock nobody advanced, so it timed out after 120 s; run the probe on
the live clock.

* fix(desktop): only load app-host protocol URLs into the main window

The Clerk deep-link handler loaded any <scheme>://<host>/... URL into
the main window, but the protocol handler only serves host "app". In
builds where thread links share the scheme (t3code://threads/...), and
for any other host a web page links to, the window went blank.
isDesktopProtocolUrl now requires host "app"; thread links stay with
DesktopDeepLink.

* test(desktop): align two upstream tests with fork behaviour

The launcher icon test expected the stock production icon, but personal
builds deliberately use the Munim or Nightly icon. The stalled-capture
preview test expected upstream's three quick capture retries, while the
fork bounds each grab at AUTOMATION_CAPTURE_TIMEOUT_MS and reattaches
once, so the test never finished.

* fix(web): render the integrations settings without a window global

ExternalTerminalSetting read window.desktopBridge unguarded, which threw
in the IntegrationsSettings test renderer and took the whole panel down;
guard it like the other desktop-only settings. Also drop a merge-era
override in threadActionMenu.logic.test.ts that hid the auto-settle item
the test then expected.

* fix(desktop): auto-download updates found by a check

electron-updater emits update-available from inside checkForUpdates,
while the check still holds the update action reservation. The fork's
auto-download ran straight from that event, so tryStartUpdateAction
refused it on every check and updates sat at "available" until the
user clicked. Wait for the check to release its reservation (bounded,
like the prepared-install wait) before downloading.

* fix(scripts): stop a failed Mac app swap from nesting the new app in the old one

swap_install runs as `if ! swap_install`, so set -e is off inside it.
If moving the installed app aside failed (or ditto failed, e.g. a full
disk), the script carried on, moved the staging app *into* the live
bundle and reported the install as done. Each step now returns on
failure, restores the previous app when the final move fails, and the
caller reports the real reason.

Verified by extracting swap_install with a simulated mv failure: before,
it returned success with staging.app nested in the live app; after, it
fails with "could not move the installed app aside" and leaves the app
untouched.

* fix(scripts): restore stamped package versions when a fleet build fails

The refresh scripts stamp release versions into four package.json files
and restore them only after a successful build. Under set -e a failed
build exited first, leaving the checkout dirty, and every later run then
skipped with "checkout is dirty" and exit 0, so the fleet silently
stopped refreshing. Restore them from an EXIT trap instead.

* docs(readme): point "Install and first run" at MT Code's download section

The link went to the inherited docs/user/install.md, which installs
upstream T3 Code from pingdotgg releases and t3.codes/install.sh.
