fix(mobile): merging a PR uses the project's default merge method - #29857
Settings → Source control has a default pull request merge method, set for the environment or overridden per project. Web and desktop use it when you merge a PR. The mobile merge button doesn't. It uses the method you last picked on that phone, or squash. So a project set to "Create a merge commit" gets squash-merged from mobile unless you open the menu and change it first. A merge can't be undone.
Change
The mobile merge controls now read the environment's server settings and resolve the project's pullRequestMergeMethod with resolveProjectSettings. That's the resolution web's usePullRequestDefaultMergeMethodResolver uses, and mobile already reads server settings this way in use-new-task-project-defaults.ts. The selection moves into resolveMergeMethod in pullRequestActions.ts, in web's order: the method chosen in the menu, the project default, the last-used method on this device, then mobile's existing squash and first-allowed fallbacks. Each step is skipped if the repository doesn't allow that method.
Scope and approval
Very small, focused fix for an obvious bug, so no prior issue. The setting is server-side and documented as the default merge method ("Defaults and inheritance" in docs/user/project-settings.md), but one client ignores it. #18126 added mobile PR merging after per-project overrides landed (#11176), and the default wasn't wired in. Precedent: #22399 brought the same merge-method parity to another web entry point.
Overlap search: the local PR index plus REST searches for "mobile merge method" and "pullRequestMergeMethod mobile". The closest matches are #7992 and #22399, both web only. I found no open PR touching mobile merge method selection.
Not included: web's legacy client-side pullRequestMergeMethodOverrides (web only, no mobile equivalent) and a mobile settings row for the default.
Verification
Red on main: vp test run src/features/pull-requests/pullRequestActions.test.ts fails with TypeError: resolveMergeMethod is not a function. The selection was inline in the component on main.
Green: the same file passes 4/4. The new case covers the project default beating the last-used method, the menu choice beating both, skipping a default the repository disallows, and the squash and first-allowed fallbacks.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck, test and react compiler all pass.
Not checked: a run on a real device (non-visual logic change).

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Mobile merge actions now prioritize the project's configured merge method over the last-used preference. This changes the default behavior for existing users and requires human review of the intended precedence.

Walkthrough
The pull request adds resolveMergeMethod and updates the merge controls to use it. The resolver considers the local selection, project default, saved preference, and allowed methods.
resolveMergeMethod checks the selected method, project default, saved preference, and squash in order. It returns the first allowed method, or the first allowed method as a fallback. Tests cover this precedence and fallback.
Use project settings in merge controls apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestMergeControls.tsx
The merge controls read settings for the target environment and pass the project default and loaded saved preference to resolveMergeMethod.
A merge made while settings load can use a different method from the project default. This is a bounded timing risk.

The title names the main change: mobile PR merging now uses the project's default merge method. It follows the conventional commit format and matches the raw summary, which adds resolveMergeMethod with the project default in the selection order. It is specific and not vague.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template. Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification are all present and filled in. The Problem section states the expected behavior and the mobile bug. The Change section explains the resolution order and the reuse of web's approach. Scope cites a precedent PR and states that no prior issue exists for this small fix, which the template allows. Verification gives a red-then-green test run, the full check run, and what was not checked (a real device). The template asks for the model and harness used. The description names Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Code, so that item is covered. Scope is weaker because the description cites no triaged issue or maintainer approval and relies on the small-fix exemption. The description does not include before/after evidence, but the change is non-visual, so that is not required.

Wait for environment settings before enabling settings-dependent merge actions.
When the pull-request detail loads before the environment config, resolveMergeMethod skips the project default and can select the saved or "squash" method. The merge button can still enable and submit that method. Gate merge and enable-auto-merge on the config, while preserving disable-auto-merge:
