fix(provider-core): Homebrew installs behind a native-looking launcher update with brew - #28493
When a provider's launcher sits at a path that looks like a native install but resolves into a Homebrew keg or cask, T3 Code offered the provider's own updater instead of brew upgrade. Example: Claude Code from the claude-code@latest cask, reached through a user-made ~/.local/bin/claude -> /opt/homebrew/bin/claude symlink. That claude update does nothing under Homebrew, so every update ended with "Update command completed, but T3 Code still detects an outdated provider version."
Reproduction on main 6f2e48da38: I ran the real resolveProviderMaintenanceCapabilitiesEffect with Claude's resolver definition against an on-disk layout (a Caskroom or Cellar binary, a <home>/.local/bin/claude symlink to it, and a keg brew stub). Both layouts got <home>/.local/bin/claude update. When the same keg was reached through a non-native bin directory, the result was brew upgrade.
Change
resolvePackageManagedProviderMaintenance returned the native updater before it checked Homebrew ownership of the real path. I moved the existing homebrewOwnershipFromCommandPath(context.realCommandPath) lookup above the native-launcher branch, and that branch now applies only when the real path is not in a Homebrew keg. A Homebrew-owned launcher then goes through the normal order: npm-in-keg proof, the mise-keg exclusion, then brew upgrade [--cask] <name>. The check is shared, so Claude, Codex, and OpenCode launchers all get the same behaviour. A Homebrew mise keg behind a native-looking launcher now stays manual-only, as it already did when reached directly.
packages/provider-coresrc/server/maintenanceResolver.test.ts: 67/67 pass. Three cases are new and fail on main:
upgrades a Homebrew cask behind a native-looking launcher with brew: main gives <tmp>/home/.local/bin/native-package-tool update (lock key nativePackageTool-native).
upgrades a Homebrew formula behind a native-looking launcher with brew: same failure.
keeps a mise-owned Homebrew keg in a native install location manual-only: main returns the native updater.
CodexDriver.test.ts, providerMaintenanceRunner.test.ts, and the provider-opencode server tests pass.
vp run check:changed passes (format, lint, knip, typecheck of 25 packages, tests).
This is a server-only fix with no rendered change, so there are no captures. The runtime transcript below comes from the real resolver on a synthetic layout (Linux, platform service set to darwin).
Runtime transcript, before (main 6f2e48d) and after (this branch)
The driver (scratch, not committed) builds the layout in a temp directory and calls resolveProviderMaintenanceCapabilitiesEffect with a copy of ClaudeDriver's isClaudeNativeCommandPath and UPDATE definition, with PATH=<tmp>/home/.local/bin:<tmp>/opt/homebrew/bin.
Not checked: a real Homebrew install and the desktop update button on macOS (cannot-verify macos).

These tests reproduce #28486: a Homebrew cask or formula symlinked into
~/.local/bin gets the provider's native updater instead of brew upgrade.

…with brew
A Claude, Codex, or OpenCode launcher at the provider's native path that
symlinks into a Homebrew keg or cask was updated with the provider's native
updater. Skip the native branch when the real path is Homebrew-owned, so it
resolves through brew upgrade, or stays manual-only for a mise keg.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Homebrew-owned installations behind native-looking launchers now reach the existing package-manager updater instead of immediately selecting native updates. Existing ownership checks and package-specific upgrade handling limit the change's exposure.

Walkthrough
The maintenance resolver now checks Homebrew ownership before returning native-update capabilities. Tests cover Homebrew formula and cask launchers, expected brew upgrade commands, and the homebrew lock key.
Changes: Homebrew maintenance resolution
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Homebrew ownership check and coverage packages/provider-core/src/server/maintenanceResolver.ts, packages/provider-core/src/server/maintenanceResolver.test.ts
The resolver lets Homebrew-owned command paths continue to package-manager handling instead of returning native-update capabilities. Tests verify formula and cask upgrade commands and the homebrew lock key. The mise-owned native-install tests also cover a Homebrew keg and skip symlink-dependent cases when symlinks are unsupported.
Homebrew-installed providers reached through native-looking launchers now update with brew upgrade, which is the intended behavior. A launcher symlinked directly to a versioned keg directory can break after the upgrade. Consider handling that case before merge or accept it explicitly.

Explanation
Issue #28486 requires a Homebrew-managed Claude launcher behind a native-looking symlink to use Homebrew maintenance. The resolver now checks Homebrew ownership before the native updater branch and excludes Homebrew-owned paths from that branch. The added tests cover Homebrew cask and formula paths and assert brew upgrade with the homebrew lock key. The existing package-manager flow selects the cask or formula command. The issue's logging and spinner questions are not coding acceptance criteria for this change.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay within issue #28486. The resolver change implements the requested behavior. The cask, formula, and mise tests verify the behavior and protect the existing mise-owned manual-only rule. The shared resolver coverage for related providers is a direct consequence of the issue's stated shared implementation. No unrelated production behavior or unrelated files appear in the reviewed diff.

Keep direct versioned-keg launchers valid across Homebrew upgrades.
This is a reachable regression in updater selection. The same direct Caskroom/<name>/<version>/... launcher selected the native updater before this change. It now selects brew upgrade --cask, which can remove the old staged version and leave the launcher dangling.
Manual-only is not the correct general fix because the intended layout requires Homebrew upgrades for custom launchers. homebrewOwnershipFromCommandPath examines only realCommandPath and matches both Cellar and Caskroom version paths. Preserve the original launcher path and distinguish a direct versioned-keg symlink from a stable Homebrew launcher, or repair/repoint the launcher after the upgrade. Add a post-upgrade launcher test.
