fix(server): Claude task output tail ignores ids that are not a single path segment - #26501
tailClaudeTaskOutput builds the live-output path for Claude background tasks as <root>/<project>/<session_id>/tasks/<task_id>.output. Both ids are taken straight from the Claude SDK task_started stream message. path.join normalizes .., so a malformed session_id or task_id reaches a .output file outside the Claude task directory, and the server streams it to clients as command_output.delta. The new test reproduces this on main: a sessionId of ../../outside streams outside/tasks/<id>.output.
Change
tailClaudeTaskOutput returns at once, before any filesystem call, unless both ids are one plain path segment (/^[\w-]+$/). That pattern rules out ., /, \\ and empty ids, so the joined path cannot leave the root. Real ids fit it: session ids are UUIDs, and the installed Claude Code 2.1.303 generates task ids as a 9-character [a-z0-9] string. The guard has the same effect as the existing missing-file path: the command shows no live output, and its final tool result still arrives.
vp test run apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/ClaudeTaskOutputTail.test.ts: the new test reads nothing when the session id leaves the Claude task directory fails against main's ClaudeTaskOutputTail.ts (5211acf) and passes at 1f68440. The 3 existing tail tests still pass.

One reviewer checked the base and head independently. On main, traversal through either sessionId or taskId streams the outside file; at the fix it streams nothing, and valid ids still tail normally. All 52 session ids and 26 task ids in the Claude replay fixtures (CLI 2.1.111–2.1.285) match the pattern.
ClaudeAdapterV2.test.ts: 244/244 pass. vp run check:changed: pass.
Evidence: this is a server-only fix with no visible surface, so there are no captures. The proof is the test plus the transcript above.
Not checked: Claude Code builds older than 2.1.111. If one emitted ids with other characters, the command would show no live output and its final result would still arrive.

…e path segment
The tail joined the SDK's task_started session_id and task_id into a
filesystem path unchecked, so an id containing `..` could stream a file
outside the Claude task directory as command output. Skip tailing unless
both ids match `^[\w-]+$`.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Claude task-output tailing now rejects session and task IDs containing path syntax before accessing files. The change is limited to supplemental live output and preserves final results.

The Claude task output tail now rejects session or task IDs that do not match a safe-segment pattern before filesystem access. A test verifies that an outside-directory session ID produces no output chunks.

The tail checks both IDs against a safe-segment pattern before filesystem access. The test verifies that an outside-directory session ID produces no chunks.

This change closes the path-traversal hole by rejecting unsafe session and task IDs before any file is read. A narrower pre-existing race, where a task could replace its output file with a symlink between checks, remains and is worth a follow-up. The test should also cover a traversal-shaped task ID. Neither blocks merging.

Explanation
[#26489] Requirement 1: reject ids that do not match a strict pattern such as /^[\w-]+$/. Implemented. ClaudeTaskOutputTail.ts adds SAFE_PATH_SEGMENT = /^[\w-]+$/ and returns early from tailClaudeTaskOutput when either sessionId or taskId fails the test. This happens before any FileSystem call. Requirement 2: verify containment of the resolved path under the session root. No separate resolved-path comparison is added. The pattern makes a separate check unnecessary for the id segments. It excludes '.', '/', '\', and empty values, so the id segments cannot contain '..' or a separator. The project segment comes from readDirectory on the server-computed root. The joined path therefore stays under root. Requirement 3: tests. The new test 'reads nothing when the session id leaves the Claude task directory' sends sessionId '../../outside' to a real outside file. It asserts no chunks are emitted. The 3 existing tail tests are unchanged. The PR does not add a test for a traversal through taskId alone. The PR description reports that a reviewer confirmed taskId traversal on main and no output at the fix. Valid ids still reach the existing locate and tail path. Residual uncertainty: Claude Code builds older than 2.1.111 are not checked. Their ids would produce no live output, as the PR states.

Explanation
The diff against the merge base 5211acf has three hunks. All three relate to [#26489]. (1) SAFE_PATH_SEGMENT constant and its comment in ClaudeTaskOutputTail.ts. This is the requested validation. (2) The early-return guard at the start of tailClaudeTaskOutput. This is the requested rejection before filesystem use. (3) A new test in ClaudeTaskOutputTail.test.ts for the traversal case. This is a supporting test for the fix. No unrelated files or behavior changes appear in the whole-PR diff. The ClaudeAdapterV2 caller and other paths are unchanged in this PR.

Protect the tailed file from link swaps.
local_bash can write to Claude Code’s per-user temporary directory. The tail performs stat and then fileSystem.open(filePath, { flag: "r" }) as separate operations. If the task replaces the output file during that gap, the Node-backed open can follow the symlink and stream its target. Claude Code’s own output-swap check does not protect this separate read.
Enforce containment when opening the file, including protection against link replacement.

Cover traversal through taskId in the existing regression test.
TASK_ID is valid, but the current test uses an invalid sessionId, so it still passes if only the taskId check is removed. Add a traversal-shaped taskId with the valid SESSION_ID to cover both checks in this existing case.
