fix(web): don't seed the worktree base from an unborn HEAD - #25721
When a new thread is opened in New worktree mode while its project is still cloning, the base branch picker seeds the draft with init.defaultBranch (main), and keeps it after the clone finishes. For a repository whose default branch is something else (here staging, no main on the remote), the first send fails with git worktree add failed (ref_not_found). Details and timeline in #25719.
Change
During the clone the repository has an unborn HEAD and no refs/remotes/origin/HEAD. statusDetails reports the unborn branch name as the current branch, and the ref list is still empty, so the candidate defaultBranchName ?? currentGitBranch became main. The seeding effect then sets it once and never runs again because activeThreadBranch is set.
The candidate now falls back to the current branch only when it is a listed ref. The current branch sorts first in listRefs, so it is on the first page whenever it exists. With no candidate, the effect waits, and seeds the real default branch once the clone has written refs. The logic moved into resolveWorktreeBaseBranchCandidate in BranchToolbar.logic.ts so it can be unit tested.
Scope and approval
Bug report: #25719. I think this qualifies as a small, focused fix for an obvious bug: one client-side decision in the branch picker, with no change to the server, contracts, or the picker's UI. It does not address #22017 (a repository that really has no commits). With this change that case reaches the composer's existing "Select a base branch before sending in New worktree mode." message instead of failing at git worktree add, but the local-mode fallback discussed there is not included.
Verification
Established the failure on a real setup: Windows desktop client, server in WSL2, git 2.43.0, init.defaultBranch=main, repository default staging. The server log showed createWorktree failing with ref_not_found for base main. Picking staging by hand worked.
Confirmed the unborn-HEAD behavior: git init -q unborn && git -C unborn symbolic-ref --short HEAD prints main. This is what statusDetails returns during a clone.
Added unit tests for resolveWorktreeBaseBranchCandidate: waits while the ref list is pending, prefers the default branch, falls back to a listed current branch, and returns null for an unborn HEAD with no refs. vp test run --project unit src/components/BranchToolbar.logic.test.ts: 22 passed.
vp lint and vp fmt on the changed files are clean, and tsc --noEmit for apps/web passes.
Not checked: I did not rebuild the desktop app and repeat the clone in the UI with this change. There is no visual change, so there are no before/after screenshots.

While a clone is still running, the repository has an unborn HEAD that
points at init.defaultBranch and no origin/HEAD yet. The branch picker
took that name as the worktree base and kept it after the clone
finished, so the first thread failed with ref_not_found.
Only fall back to the current branch when it is a listed ref.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This focused web bug fix prevents an unborn Git HEAD from seeding an invalid worktree base branch and waits for a real listed ref instead. It changes only the automatic worktree draft-seeding path, with targeted unit coverage and no schema, deployment, product-default, or static-analysis changes.

The change extracts worktree base branch candidate selection into a helper. The selector now uses that helper, which only uses the current Git branch when it appears in the refs. Tests cover loading, default-ref preference, current-branch fallback, and empty refs.

The new helper returns null while the initial branch load is pending. Otherwise, it prefers the first default ref, then uses the current Git branch only if that branch is listed. The selector calls the helper, and tests cover these outcomes.

After cloning, a new worktree may still have no selected base branch. Refresh branch refs on clone completion before merging unless this behavior is explicitly accepted.

Refresh branch refs when cloning finishes.
startProjectClone returns before the background clone finishes, and the new project opens while cloning is still in progress. If usePaginatedBranches caches an empty result during that window, clone completion does not invalidate the cached refs. resolveWorktreeBaseBranchCandidate then remains null, so the automatic-selection effect does not seed the worktree base branch.
Refresh the branch refs when the clone reaches its completed state, or otherwise change the query target so that the ref query runs again.
