ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR changes the draft citation interaction and adds a new inline quote/comment editing flow, including focus, dismissal, and source-navigation behavior. The implementation is localized and tested, but the existing composer behavior changes in a user-visible way that merits human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

The chip renders citation details or a comment editor. Its popover handles draft settlement, saving, cancellation, focus, and guarded source navigation. The composer no longer passes the composer prop. Browser tests cover editing, keyboard submission, cancellation, focus, and navigation. |

@coderabbitai On the outside-diff finding (gate source navigation on draft settlement): fixed in e86fdae. Go to source now saves the draft before navigating and stays on the page when the save fails, the popup staying open with the draft. Covered by "stays on the page when saving the draft fails", which fails without the fix. I left out |

…nt ready to edit The draft chip in the composer now opens the same popover as a sent quote chip: the quoted text, the comment, and Go to source. The comment is a focused textarea with the caret at its end. The chip itself looks the same. Right after a selection, the comment box still opens under the highlighted text on its own.

This is a valuable addition |
Problem
A quote chip in a sent message opens a popover with the quoted text, your comment and Go to source. The same chip in the composer draft cannot show the quote at all. Clicking its label leaves the draft to jump to the source, and the pencil opens a box with only the comment. Before sending, you cannot see the quote and what you wrote about it together. #19476 describes the same pain.
Change
Clicking a draft quote chip (label or pencil) now opens the sent chip's popover: the quote, the comment, and Go to source. The only difference is that the comment is a textarea, focused with the caret at its end, styled to read like the sent comment. Enter saves, Cmd/Ctrl+Enter saves and sends, Escape cancels, clicking outside saves, as before.
AssistantCitationDetails). The comment editor gains aninlinemode with no box and no buttons.composerprop onAssistantCitationChipis gone. The presence ofcommentEditoralready says it is a draft.Web and desktop only. Mobile has its own composer and is untouched.
Scope and approval
There is no maintainer approval yet. #19476 asks for the same outcome (quote and comment visible together before sending) through numbered cards above the input, and has no maintainer response. This PR is a smaller alternative that reuses the existing sent chip popover. I'm opening it so the working change can be judged next to that proposal, and I'm happy to close it if the direction isn't wanted.
Verification

After, clicking the chip opens the quote with the comment ready to edit:
