- Line 370: Update the invalid preview URL messages in the relevant
PreviewUrlError formatting logic and its shared counterpart to state that blank
tabs require omitting url, while continuing to reject about:blank. Adjust the
newly added test to assert the blank-tab guidance.
Review comments at @packages/contracts/src/previewAutomation.ts:
- Line 22: Update the locator guidance string in preview automation to
explicitly direct CSS selectors, including :has(), to the selector field using
selector='<css>'; retain the existing aria-ref and Playwright locator
guidance.

When an agent passed a bad locator to
preview_clickor an unsupported URL such asabout:blanktopreview_open, the error only gave a length or a parse detail. Agents retried with guesses until one worked. Both errors now end with the rule that was broken. The invalid locator/selector error says to use
aria-ref=<ref>from the latest snapshot, or a valid Playwright role, text, or CSS selector that matches exactly one element. That covers both cases the server browser reports as invalid: bad syntax and a strict-mode match on more than one element. The invalid URL error says to use an absolute http(s) URL or a schemeless host such ast3.chatorlocalhost:5173, in both the shared normalizer (what agents see from the server browser) and the RPC error in contracts. The existing length and reason diagnostics stay, and no user input is added to the text. Web and mobile swallow these errors or show their own copy, so nothing on screen changes. Not changed here:about:blankis still parsed as a schemeless host, and the "Multiple browser tabs" error still carries its current tag. Both are separate problems.Proof: two new tests, one in
packages/contracts/src/preview.test.tsand one inpackages/shared/src/preview.test.ts, fail without the fix and pass with it. Ranvp test runon both files andvp run check:changed(all green). I did not run a real agent against the server browser.Scores: impact 2/10 · merge risk 1/10 · Theo-might-hate 3/10. Below the auto-merge bar (impact 6+, risk under 3, hate under 3).
