fix(client-runtime): recover threads when resume never completes - #20932

…after a failed resume A saved thread resumes by asking the server for the events it missed. If that replay hit a defect, the subscription stopped for good and every relaunch replayed the same events from the saved cursor. The next attempt now loads the full snapshot instead. Closes pingdotgg#19563 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> (cherry picked from commit 4aceeef)
The generic RPC test demonstrates switchMap buffering. The thread fixture only exercised cancellation and passed with the new guard disabled, so it did not protect the fix. (cherry picked from commit d05d3eb9908969333e8b6353af838e1276595b23)
Keep transport instrumentation on its existing span and log trace IDs. Replace fixed-yield recovery test polling with subscription milestones. (cherry picked from commit ded90a1361f5edab0711f9f9d74be7b324be5a57)

ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR changes production thread synchronization behavior with new deadlines, snapshot retries, terminal recovery, stale-session handling, and shared tracing. It also enables RPC tracing by default, making the scope and runtime observability impact broad enough to require human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Taking over this one as maintainer for batch sidebar-threads-16. I will keep the bounded resume-to-snapshot recovery, rebuild it against current main with the smallest focused implementation and tests, and verify it in the web client. No merge is planned. |

…20932 # Conflicts: # apps/web/src/components/ChatView.tsx
Problem
A cached thread can remain on “Syncing messages…” forever when its resume stream never sends the completion marker.
Change
Bound that catch-up to 15 seconds and make one cursor-free snapshot attempt. If that also fails, keep cached messages and show a synchronization error until a new session or a return to the app retries it.
The deadline does not reset on replay traffic. Local cancellation cancels it; a remote request interruption can still recover. Stream batches, applied cursors, producer-session filtering, authorization and socket handling remain intact. Web and mobile show the detail error with cached content, and the current sync failure takes precedence over a historical provider error. This replaces the original tracing/helper machinery with recovery inline in the existing client runtime.
Credit to @JustYannicc for the original #20932, building beyond #19570. Original commits are retained.
Scope and approval
Focused recovery for the stuck-resume report #19563, extending #19570. Julius took over the implementation to retain bounded recovery, rebuild it against main and verify it in the web client. That takeover does not establish final approval of the cutoff or failure policy.
The deadline covers marker-backed resumed catch-up and its fallback, not an initial HTTP snapshot that has not returned. Older servers without completion markers retain their compatibility path. A typed catch-up failure after the fallback becomes terminal until an external wakeup rather than continuing automatic backoff; this behavior and the 15-second cutoff need maintainer approval.

Before: pinned main 30448e37e9, same data and 1280×800 viewport. At 39.2 seconds, only one resume request has run and the client is still syncing.
After: one missing marker recovers through the snapshot fallback.
Recovery attempt recording
After: both markers missing, cached messages and the current timeout remain visible despite the old usage-limit error.
Timeout transition recording
Verified web on headless Linux; macOS, Windows, Electron desktop, iOS, Android, live providers, and remote/relay/tunnel connections were not exercised. Mobile notice rendering was checked by source, focused presentation tests and typecheck, not a native client. Fixtures were written only to stopped disposable state; no real provider turn was started.
