ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped, test-only race fix that makes replay status durable before frames are emitted and updates a related comment. It does not alter product behavior, defaults, schemas, deployment, or static-analysis configuration. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |
The replay agent sent each recorded frame before writing its progress. A client that stops the agent after the last answer can read empty or outdated status. Record progress before sending, and include immediately following clean runtime exits in the same status write. The replay agent sent each recorded frame and only then wrote its progress to the status file. A test that reacts to the last answer and stops the agent can read the status mid-write (empty file) or before the write (cursor one short). Linux CI hit the empty case in AcpRegistryAdapterV2's mode-picker tests. Record progress before sending the frame, so the status is final by the time the client sees the last answer. A clean recorded exit right after an entry counts in the same write, since transcripts such as Grok's end with an answer followed by an exit. - Around line 255-260: In flushInbound, keep the pre-send advance() call but
track each pending stdout write so replay completeness cannot be accepted while
a frame is still being written. Update send() to decrement the pending-write
count when its callback completes, record callback errors as replay failures,
and expose pending-write state in the status consumed by the completeness
assertion, which must require zero pending writes.

Note Written by Thanks for this. I'm closing it as part of PR triage. Right now we're only taking focused bug fixes from outside contributors (see Read this first), and this PR is not one. From the review: This changes ACP replay status timing and its test assertion, without changing production behavior. Changes to test infrastructure need maintainer agreement first. If you think this was a mistake, message me on Twitter at @maria_rcks and I'll take another look. |

Problem
AcpRegistryAdapterV2.test.tsfails intermittently on Linux CI. Observed on "the agent's own mode picker > switches a mode config option under its own id":The replay agent (
apps/server/scripts/acp-replay-agent.ts) sends each recorded frame and only then writes its progress to the status file. The test receives the transcript's last answer, closes the session (which stops the agent), and reads the status. On Linux, pipe writes are synchronous, so the client can see the answer and stop the agent while the status write is still in progress (empty file) or hasn't happened yet (cursor one short).Change
emitInboundbecomesinboundMessage, which builds the message, andflushInboundcallsadvance()beforesend().runtime_exitwithsuccessorcancelled) that directly follows an entry counts in the same status write. Transcripts such as Grok's end with an answer followed by an exit, and that exit would otherwise be recorded only after the answer was sent.Scope and approval
A very small fix for an obvious bug in test infrastructure: a flaky completeness check caused by write ordering in the replay agent. It doesn't change product behavior; only the test agent script changes.
