fix(server): Vite+ provider installs get update prompts on Windows - #19887
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The PR makes a narrow correction to existing Vite+ install detection, enabling the already-supported update prompt for Windows and XDG layouts. The change is isolated and covered by tests for all affected path formats, with no product-default or static-analysis override changes. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

- Line 222: Update the Vite+ detection in `normalizeCommandPath`’s caller so
`/\.?vite-plus\/bin\//` selects a global update only when the path is verified
as a Vite+ shim location, not merely because a project path contains that
segment. Preserve the `node_modules` fallback for project-local installs, and
add a near-miss test using a project-local path such as
`/work/vite-plus/bin/claude`.

- Around line 222-224: Update the updater selection matcher to compare the
normalized command path against the actual supported VP_HOME roots, rather than
matching layout fragments anywhere in the path. Add negative tests confirming
nested paths such as a project-local .local/share/vite-plus/bin executable do
not select the Vite+ updater.

…d XDG layouts Vite+ global installs were only recognized under `~/.vite-plus/bin`. On Windows the shims live in `%LOCALAPPDATA%\vite-plus\bin`, and with the XDG layout in `~/.local/share/vite-plus/bin`, so those installs fell through to manual-only and never offered `vp i -g` updates. Taking over this one. I’ll reduce the tests to the useful coverage, update the implementation against current main, and verify it before publishing the changes. |

Problem
Vite+ provider installs in Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\vite-plus\binand Linux~/.local/share/vite-plus/binwere treated as manual installs, so they did not offer the existing Vite+ update command.Change
Recognize these split-layout shim directories alongside the existing
.vite-plus/binlayout. Keep path-segment boundaries so an ordinary project directory namedvite-plus/binremains manual-only. Resolver precedence for native updates, WinGet, Homebrew and other package managers is unchanged. Thanks @tonank for the original #19887 contribution. Contributor history is preserved, current main is merged, and the tests use the current shared resolver fixtures.
Scope and approval
Maintainer takeover of a focused install-ownership bug. Only the shared provider maintenance resolver and its existing tests change. No UI, provider execution or update-command behavior changes beyond selecting the already-supported Vite+ updater. No merge is requested.
Verification
At de1e391, with current main f740a97 merged:
maintenanceResolver.test.tstests pass. The added coverage uses the real resolver service with mocked filesystem/process/platform dependencies: three supported layouts yieldvp i -g @anthropic-ai/claude-codewith thevite-plus-globallock key; a project-path near miss remains manual-only.This is service-output proof, not a live Windows discovery or package-update run. No browser/native-shell verification is claimed. Arbitrary custom
VP_HOME/VP_BIN_DIRpaths and relocated Windows application-data paths without the recognized segments remain outside this fix.Prepared through T3 Code: Claude Opus 5.5 tests and full review, Claude Fable 5.1 implementation, GPT-6.1 Sol independent review.
