ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This production mobile change expands pending-question rendering to support Markdown and interactive links/media while refactoring shared routing behavior. It also broadens a native interop lint-rule allowlist in the static-analysis configuration, so the configuration exception and its impact should receive human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Note This comment is posted by Julius' dot The focused mobile fix still needs the required UI evidence. The PR says device access was unavailable, so the reported tests don't establish native rendering or link-versus-answer taps. Moving this to draft: add before/after screenshots and a short recording showing links open without selecting an answer, with iOS and Android check results, then mark it ready again. |

Forward the built-in document-assets event instead of duplicating link, reference, and file recognition. Keep the existing AST only for spoken option names, with a raw-source fallback for image-only labels. Reuse scaled text roles to preserve appearance preferences. Native asset discovery and accessibility behavior remain boundary checks: the compiler cannot prove renderer output or screen-reader behavior. Verify the native action list and answer selection on iOS; VoiceOver activation and Android remain untested.

Remove markdownAccessibility and its custom recursive text walker. Use mdast-util-to-string and unist-util-visit, already present in the dependency tree, as direct mobile dependencies. Keep block spacing, hard line breaks, and the empty-name fallback inside the option card. The native renderer still owns link and image targets. Accessible name correctness is a boundary property, checked through the iOS accessibility tree for nested lists, quotes, tables, paragraphs, hard breaks, and image-only options. No new Markdown parser or renderer mode.

Reuse themeColorWithContrast, themeColorWithAlpha, and flattenThemeColor for the question card, unselected input, and selected answer tint. Keep the adjustment local to pending questions and retain the existing theme hue. This is a color-contrast boundary invariant rather than a type invariant. Focused palette tests reproduce failures with screen-preview link colors and verify at least 4.5:1 for every built-in theme in both appearances after the existing contrast adjustment. A new native visual dark-theme pass was not run.

Use the existing Markdown parser and mdast-util-to-string to detect prompts with no spoken text. Include the raw prompt in the existing question header accessibility label only for that case. Keep the Markdown view ungrouped so its native links remain separate focus targets. The non-empty spoken-name invariant crosses the native rendering boundary. Verify an alt-less image prompt and an ordinary question link through the real iOS accessibility tree rather than a static-prop test. All 217 focused tests, mobile typecheck, targeted lint, and formatting pass.

Move the existing ThreadFeed Markdown image callback into useThreadMarkdownImageRenderer and use it for question text, option labels, and descriptions. Standalone SVGs now use ThreadMarkdownImageView instead of the native bitmap decoder. Keep native source resolution for nested media, existing blocked/workspace/direct classification, video handling, and preview behavior. This is a skipped rendering boundary, verified with the existing image classification and sizing tests plus a real iOS SVG fixture. SVGs display in the question, label, and description; an option image opens the preview without selecting the answer. Android is unavailable on this host and remains untested.

Handle inline SVGs with the SVG-capable renderer
When a question or choice contains an inline SVG such as Text , the shared-renderer follow-up fixes the reported standalone-SVG case, but the bundled Enriched implementation marks only a sole image paragraph eligible for renderMedia; inline assets from this prop block therefore fall through to resolveImageSource, whose Android native path decodes with BitmapFactory and produces no image for SVG bytes. Route these inline sources through an SVG-capable or rasterized path too, otherwise the new Markdown rendering leaves the icon empty on Android.

Provide the existing ThreadMediaVisibleContext at the pending-card boundary, using the inverse of collapsed. This enables thumbnails for visible question and option videos and disables thumbnail work while the iOS card remains mounted but hidden. Keep the feed visibility provider and shared renderer unchanged. The thumbnail visibility invariant crosses a React context boundary. Verify it with the real iOS video fixture, before/after screenshots, collapse/expand recording, and existing thumbnail lifecycle tests. All 260 focused tests, mobile typecheck, targeted lint, and formatting pass. Inline SVG support remains outside this change.

Pause embedded videos when the card collapses
On iOS, if the user starts an embedded question or option video and then collapses the pending card, the card deliberately remains mounted, so changing this context to false does not stop the player: ThreadMarkdownVideo uses it only for thumbnailVisible, while the loaded MediaVideoPlayer is paused only by focus/app-state or its paused prop. Audio and video decoding therefore continue behind the collapsed bar until the request disappears or the user re-expands and pauses it; propagate the collapsed state to player pause/unmount as well.

Mobile pending questions displayed Markdown source instead of formatted text and usable links. Question text, option labels, and descriptions now use the existing
SelectableMarkdownTextunchanged, with the card's current theme and existing scaled text roles. Link colors use the existing contrast helper against the question card, input surface, and selected-answer tint.Share the existing thread-feed image renderer for standalone images and SVGs. Keep native source resolution for nested media. The expanded card supplies the existing media-visibility context, so video thumbnails load while expanded and thumbnail work stops while collapsed. Feed visibility checks stay unchanged. Share the existing thread-feed link handler for thread, workspace file, media, pull-request, and external destinations. Keep the existing answer controls and raw values. Option links, recognized inline-code files, and image previews have accessible actions. Their targets come directly from the native renderer through its existing document-assets event. The wrapper forwards that event to the card. Spoken option names reuse
mdast-util-to-stringandunist-util-visitwith the existing Markdown parser. The card adds block spaces and an empty-name fallback. Both utilities already existed in the dependency tree and now have explicit mobile dependencies. The custommarkdownAccessibilityhelper is removed. Questions without spoken Markdown text add their raw prompt to the existing header name, while the native Markdown links remain separate focus targets. Long presses select text without changing an answer. This is the mobile follow-up to the finding on #18460. Issue #11132 excludes mobile. Mobile tracking covers this follow-up. The obvious-bug exception applies: this replaces literal text with an existing renderer and shares existing routing without changing the request contract.
Verification
git diff --checkpassed.Native verification used Xcode 27.1 and a separate local Expo JSI 58.0.10 build repair. That dependency repair is outside this PR.
Known limitation: inline SVG images on Android still use the bundled bitmap decoder. That shared renderer issue remains outside this thumbnail fix.
Not tested natively: Android (no emulator), VoiceOver action activation, dark theme, non-default text-size interaction, long-content edge cases, disabled-card behavior, physical devices, answer submission, and live-provider flows.
