fix(server): launcher preflight and service install explain which t3 ran - #13804

Conversation
The protocol preflight now names both protocols and the exact install command, and the 'already installed/using' lines print the running CLI's path so a stale t3 earlier on PATH is visible. Fixes pingdotgg#13239. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a small diagnostic-message fix: it identifies the launcher protocol mismatch and the exact CLI path used, while leaving service installation and preflight decisions unchanged. Tests cover the expanded preflight guidance, and no product defaults or static-analysis directives are modified. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

The blocked-path test should assert that PATH-selected

Fixes #13239
When a server's service launcher is too old for a release, the preflight only said "This release requires a newer T3 Code service launcher. Update it on the server machine." It named no command and no version. The obvious recovery (
t3 service update) then printed "already using t3@0.0.40" from whichevert3came first on PATH, an nvm global in the report, so it looked like it had worked.Following the triage's fix direction:
curl -fsSL https://t3.codes/install.sh | T3CODE_VERSION=<version> sh, thent3 service install. It also says thatt3 service update, npx t3@latestandt3 updatewithout a version stay on the firstt3on PATH, that a desktop upgrade does not replace it, and to checkwhich -a t3ift3 --versiondoesn't match. The staged release produces this string, so it reaches hosts that are still on protocol 2.t3 service install/t3 service updatenow print the running CLI's path in their "already installed/using" lines: the executable for standalone installs, the entry script under Node.I left out
t3 update <version>on purpose. From a protocol-2 CLI it currently runs into #12627.Output from
