Projects can now pick a browser profile under Settings > Integrations > Browser with the project selected. New tabs for that project's threads, including ones agents open with preview_open, use it instead of the global default. Refs pingdotgg#13254 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR introduces a project-level browser profile setting and changes both user- and agent-opened tabs to select a project-specific browser partition. Because it changes product defaults and propagates behavior across web, server, settings, and preview-opening paths, the change warrants human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. …ch result The project row read only the first checkout's override, so a later checkout's own profile was invisible and could not be reset. It now shows the shared profile, or Mixed when checkouts disagree. The search result is desktop-only because the row never renders on web. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Problem
Every new browser tab used the one global default profile, whatever project the thread belonged to. When an agent called
preview_openin a work project, it could land in the personal profile's logins, and the only fix was to flip the global default by hand before each switch.Change
A project can now pick its own profile under Settings → Integrations → Browser with the project selected. It is stored client-side (
browserProjectProfileIds, keyed by the physical project key like the sidebar grouping overrides) alongside the browser profiles.browserDefaultOpenProfileIdnow takes the thread ref and resolves the thread's project override first, then the global default. Manual opening paths use it: the panel's Browser button, links from chat and terminal, and files. The client also reports per-project defaults to each connected browser server; agentpreview_openresolves the thread's project from the server projection before choosing its profile. A draft thread resolves through its draft's project. A deleted or incognito override falls back to the global default, the same rule the global default already follows. An explicit profile from the add-tab menu still wins. When checkouts of one project disagree, the row shows "Mixed" and the reset arrow clears all of them.Surfaces:
Scope and approval
Closes #13254. The maintainer triage accepted the feature and proposed this shape (client-local per-project profile resolved in
browserDefaultOpenProfileId, explicit add-tab profile still wins, #9704'sprofileIdargument kept separate): #13254 (comment)Verification
Maintenance against current main: 25 focused client tests and 36 server browser tests pass, including project override and deleted/incognito fallback coverage. Web, contracts, and server typechecks pass, as do scoped lint and formatting.
browserDefaults.test.tscases: project override, draft thread, and fallback for other projects, deleted profiles, and incognito. Earlier preview open and automation tests passed, with clean web and contracts typechecks. Before: with a project selected, Browser only has the agent access toggle.
After: a Browser profile row under it.
A new tab in that project opens in Work. The toolbar badge shows it because it differs from the global default.
