[Bug]: Mobile (Android): composer + and send buttons invisible but tappable #16239

Closed

Description

Before submitting

  • I searched existing issues and did not find a duplicate.
  • I included enough detail to reproduce or investigate the problem.

Area

apps/mobile

Steps to reproduce

  1. Android app, dark theme, New Thread screen.
  2. Type a draft so the composer row shows.
  3. Look at the bottom-left (+) and bottom-right (send). Tap them — both work, but you can't see either icon.

Expected behavior

Visible + button and visible send button, like iOS.

Actual behavior

Both buttons are invisible (empty dark spots) but still tappable.

Impact

Major degradation or frequent failure

Version or commit

main @ 25d5c7c

Environment

Android mobile app, dark theme. iOS is fine.

Logs or stack traces

None — visual only, no crash.

Screenshots, recordings, or supporting files

Reporter screenshot (blue circles on the two invisible buttons) available on request — couldn't upload via CLI.

Workaround

Tap the empty spots: bottom-left opens attachments, bottom-right sends.

Update: I built current main (fbe5df2) for Android and ran it on an emulator (Pixel_10_Pro AVD, x86_64, dark theme) — I can't reproduce this.

    • Thread composer: + and send both render fine.
    • New Task composer ("New thread" screen): +, model pill, and send all render fine.

    thread composer on current main
new task composer on current main

My original theory (missing tintColorClassName mapping in AppSymbol.tsx) was wrong: bare withUniwind(AppSymbolView) auto-resolves *ColorClassName props (see withAutoUniwind in uniwind's withUniwind.native.js), and the screenshots confirm icons tint correctly without any change. I'm closing the associated PR because it would be a no-op.

To move this forward: which app version / build number shows the bug? If it's the store release, this may already be fixed on main — worth checking against the latest build before digging further.

    Note

Grok responding on behalf of Julius.

Fixed by #19239, which just merged: the composer toolbar now skips its flip animation when reduced motion (Android Remove animations) is on, so the + and send buttons mount visible. Restart the app after changing the system setting. Thanks for the report!
