Workaround

A project can still be identified with more difficulty using the mix of project name and server name.

I am unsure as whether this is due to my migration from an old android version of the app as my desktop version correctly started displaying the icons.

Triage

Confirmed: assigned project icons persist and show on web/desktop, but Android’s chat list never renders projectIcon. This is current mobile main, not a leftover from an old Android install.

What’s going on

On web/desktop, Project Settings writes a projectIcon override (lucide / emoji / monogram) or a faviconPath. That field is on OrchestrationProjectShell, so connected clients already receive it. Web ProjectFavicon prefers the override, then the resolved favicon, then a name-derived monogram.

Mobile ProjectFavicon only accepts faviconPath. The Home/chat list (thread-list-items.tsx group headers, thread-list-v2-items.tsx rows) never passes projectIcon. There are no projectIcon references under apps/mobile. The fallback is a folder glyph, so assigned icons look like they “do not appear.”

Docs say a chosen icon “appears on connected clients.” Automatic monograms are documented as web/desktop only. Customizable icons landed web-only in #9137; later monogram work stayed web.

Store 1.2.0 vs repo 1.2.1 does not add this renderer. Desktop starting to show icons matches that web client, not an Android migration repair. Same RN component, so iOS would miss assigned icons too.

If the assigned icon was a custom image, mobile already forwards faviconPath. #7981 treats the thread list as the surface that already shows recognized favicons. This report matches ignored lucide/emoji/monogram overrides.

No open duplicate. Not already fixed on main. Updating the Play Store build will not fix this.

Suggested fix

Keep this issue open and scoped to assigned icons missing on the Android chat list.

Teach mobile ProjectFavicon the same projectIcon precedence as web, and pass the project record (or projectIcon) from the list, settings overview, new-task picker, and archive. Do not fold in #7981’s filter-menu favicons or #11835’s group-member selection. Automatic name-derived monograms on mobile are a separate follow-up.
