⚙️ Installation Steps

1. Install Dependencies

First, let's get all the necessary packages installed on your system.

For Ubuntu/Debian

sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y stow zsh git neovim python3-neovim tmux tree tldr

For Fedora

sudo dnf install -y stow zsh git neovim python3-neovim tmux tree tldr

2. Install nvm and NodeJS 📦

We use nvm to manage Node.js versions.

3. Install neovim 📝

Choose the installation method that best suits your operating system.

For Ubuntu

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:neovim-ppa/unstable -y
sudo apt update
sudo apt install make gcc ripgrep unzip git xclip neovim

For Debian

sudo apt update
sudo apt install make gcc ripgrep unzip git xclip curl

# Install nvim
curl -LO https://github.com/neovim/neovim/releases/latest/download/nvim-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
sudo rm -rf /opt/nvim-linux-x86_64

From Source

sudo apt remove neovim
sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt install ninja-build gettext cmake unzip curl
git clone https://github.com/neovim/neovim
cd neovim
make CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RelWithDebInfo
cd build
cpack -G DEB
sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite nvim-linux-x86_64.deb

4. Apply Configuration 🪄

Now, let's apply the dotfiles configuration.

cd dotfiles
stow --ignore="README.md" --ignore="examples" -t ~/ .

Note: If stow reports an error, it might be because a file that needs to be symlinked already exists in your home directory. In this case, you should backup the existing file(s) and then run the stow command again.

5. Configure git ✍️

Create a .gitcustom.inc file to store your personal git information.

touch ~/.gitcustom.inc

Then, add the following content to the file:

name = Your Name
email = your.email@gmail.com

6. Change Your Shell to zsh 🐚

Finally, let's make zsh your default shell.

chsh -s $(which zsh)
