Feature request: Version history on home page

Do I have the latest version? If not, do I want to upgrade? What changed? Did they implement that feature that I'm waiting for?

I would like to be able to answer these questions by looking at the home page http://msysgit.github.io/. I could not find the answer to any of them there. Thank you for your consideration.

I am of two minds here.

On the one hand, I am very sympathetic to the request, even if I believe that @haferburg should actually make it happen himself, because A) it is too easy, and B) it would be a perfect way to say thanks for all the work that has gone into Git for Windows.

On the other hand, I really like the home page as it is. It is slick, much, much nicer to the eye than anything we had previously. To clutter that with a history that is easily available from the GitHub home page would really diminish the elegance. The biggest problem is still that it distracts us from working toward Git for Windows 2.0.x, though -- we would be served better by contributions to that end than by requests to work even harder on other tasks...

As a compromise, how about filing a PR every time there is a new Git for Windows version that mentions the now-current Git for Windows version on the home page, @haferburg?

first, it is not evident to new users that GitHub releases feature is used, and every release actually has description added.
also for me personally, I am still confused what repository is for what, e.g. git vs msysgit under msysgit organization. New user don't need to overcome this, if they just need to learn about new features

I think the version history of the released installer is probably important enough to go somewhere prominent. And it makes information more visible, that were previously buried, because for repository we link the git submodule and the releases there do not contain the installer information. So I think its going in the right direction.

Not sure whether "Version History" is the right term. How about "Changelog"? Even though the linked page is containing links to the installers the changelog was the information the original poster was searching. I think that is the valuable information there.

@hvoigt I'm sorry, I don't understand what link you're talking about. I'm not that familiar with this project or git or github, so I'm really not going to be of much help. I clicked on a number of links, and I'm very confused right now.

I agree with t-b, basically I wanted to find https://github.com/msysgit/msysgit/releases. For some reason I couldn't come up with the word "release" and only googled "version", which - as it turns out - is not that helpful in the context of a VCS.
