    Classified the queue removals since 2026-10-19 08:30Z (13 RemovedFromMergeQueueEvents; the "11" counted failed merge_group runs):

    Systemic cause: generated-copy drift is only caught in the merge queue. #7897 edited lib/session-bridge without regenerating its shared copies; the check-plugins drift gate (DRIFT session_bridge.py, watch.sh) failed in 7 merge_group runs and caused 5 of the 13 removals (with the stacking cascade, about 90 minutes), while none of its pull_request runs reported it. Fix: make the PR lane run the drift check whenever a canonical lib/** source (or scripts/shared-copies.txt) changes, so the defect fails on the PR instead of in the queue. That is CI selection (check-affected), routed to Automation Lanes and GitHub Support.

    Secondary: three PRs green as pull requests failed only under merge_group (#8548 non-hermetic test env, #8065 typecheck, #8051 release-commit hygiene). Those are per-plugin, already fixed or merged.

    Keeping this open until the drift-check selection gap is fixed; nothing in pr-merge's gate caused these removals.

    Correction to my classification above, from Automation Lanes: the drift check is not missing from PR CI. It runs on every non-docs pull_request (pr-require-checks.yml:1993-1994) and passed on both of #7897's PR runs (39090088221, 39290087907). The cause: #8218 changed lib/session-bridge on main at 2026-10-19 03:59, after #7897's PR run; #7897 was enqueued without a fresh run, so its merge_group runs combined the stale copies with the new canonical source and failed. It went green after merging main and regenerating copies (39296854329). So the fix is in pr-merge: (a) treat a change on main to a canonical source in scripts/shared-copies.txt as something the PR's checks read, so pr-merge updates the PR from main before enqueue (the #8496 rule); (b) a drift ejection does not clear by re-queuing; it needs main merged plus scripts/sync-shared-copies.sh. Building (a) now.

    Closed by #8597 (merged 2026-10-20T11:29:35Z): pr-merge now refuses and escalates a lane PR whose shared-copy canonical changed on main since its merge base, with the fix (merge main, run scripts/sync-shared-copies.sh), instead of enqueueing stale copies that fail the drift check in the merge queue. The remaining removals in the classification above were single PR defects, two one-off flakes, manual dequeues and one cancel; every PR re-entered and merged.
