feat: adopt the shared docs lookup in the remaining docs-reading callers #6494

Closed

Description

@kyle-sexton

No related issue: follow-up to #6484; part of #6020.

Summary

#6484 adopted the shared docs lookup (fetch-docs.sh, docs-cache.sh, /discovery:read-docs) in the callers it named. The caller inventory for that work found more skills and scripts that read upstream docs page content by WebFetch or a hand-written curl, in plugins #6484 did not name. Each needs the lookup carried into its plugin (synced scripts, procedure, prerequisites, version bump) before its text can switch.

Fix

Switch each caller below to the lookup, or record why it stays:

  • attribution: skills/audit/reference/source-fetch.md (raw .md read for fingerprinting; allowed-tools lists no curl, so check whether adoption needs a grant change and ask before making one)
  • instruction-placement: skills/migrate/scripts/cutover-check.sh (curls env-vars.md and greps a heading; the plugin already carries the fetcher after feat: adopt the shared docs lookup across fetching skills and agents #6484, the test needs a cache dir)
  • multi-agent: skills/audit-defaults/SKILL.md inline path ("Fetch each URL pointer with WebFetch"); the workflow's drift-checker agent has no Bash by design and stays as is
  • performance: skills/go-faster/reference/areas.md (WebFetch of a catalog row's pointer; go-faster-sweeper holds Bash)
  • planning: skills/draft-goal-condition/SKILL.md ("confirm against the live docs")
  • session-flow: skills/retro/reference/ecosystem-improvement-catalog.md (verify capability claims against official docs)
  • playbooks: skills/fable-5 context and reference/model-adaptation "Pointer" lines that say to fetch a vendor docs section
  • docs-hygiene: skills/audit-derivability (~185 "Re-fetch the page")

Discovery-only callers keep WebFetch with the fixed pointer line #6484 introduced.

Verification

  • Each switched file contains fetch-docs.sh, docs-cache.sh or the pointer line.
  • scripts/sync-shared-copies.sh --check and scripts/check-changelog-parity.sh --check exit 0.
  • No agent or skill tool grant widens.

Thanks for filing this. I understand this as a follow-up to #6484/#6020: the caller inventory found more skills/scripts across several plugins (attribution, instruction-placement, multi-agent, performance, planning, session-flow, playbooks, docs-hygiene) that still read upstream docs via WebFetch or hand-written curl instead of the shared fetch-docs.sh/docs-cache.sh//discovery:read-docs lookup adopted in #6484. The issue lists each caller, the fix needed (or why it stays as-is), and verification steps (sync/changelog-parity checks pass, no tool-grant widening). Scope and acceptance criteria look clear and self-contained.

No duplicates found among open issues; #6485 and #6487 are related but cover different work (markdown sweep, slice-recall), and #6484/#6020/#6481 are correctly cross-referenced already.

Automated triage. A maintainer reviews it.
