mcarkade agent configuration

Portable global setup for Codex, Claude Code, and compatible agent harnesses.

This repository deliberately stores only reproducible configuration:

  • global AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md guidance;
  • skill-library sources and installation order;
  • maintained local skills, including unslop, realtime-3d, cad-manufacturing-checks, source-faithful-prototype, illustrated-build-guides, study-notes-pdf, and programmatic-video;
  • the release-matched REA reverse-engineering skill and its scoped MCP setup instructions;
  • a Windows PowerShell bootstrap and an Ubuntu/Linux shell bootstrap.

It does not store credentials, OAuth sessions, API keys, agent chat history, databases, caches, or machine-specific Codex settings.

New device setup

  1. Install and sign in to Codex and/or Claude Code.

  2. Install Node.js and Git.

  3. Clone the public repository. GitHub authentication is only needed if you want to push changes.

  4. Clone this repo, then run the platform bootstrap:

    Windows: ./install.ps1

    Ubuntu/Linux: bash ./install.sh

  5. Restart agent sessions so they rediscover global skills.

The bootstrap installs skills globally for every supported agent harness, applies the maintained overlays, and removes em dashes from every discovered SKILL.md. It restores the two global instruction files with a timestamped backup of the prior local copy.

Maintenance

Edit the tracked files here, commit, and push. On another machine, pull and rerun the appropriate bootstrap. When upstream skill libraries change, rerunning the bootstrap refreshes them.

The two portable global guides share the same working, collaboration and storage safeguards. Keep their installed copies synchronized when publishing an update.

The canonical global guides are global/AGENTS.md and global/CLAUDE.md, installed into ~/.codex/AGENTS.md and ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md. When retiring provider-specific workflow restrictions, also remove obsolete copies from active parent-directory guides. A clean installed guide does not neutralize a contradictory parent guide. Where a parent guide only duplicates global guidance, replace its body with a short pointer to the installed guide so it cannot drift or load the same rules twice.

See manifests/skills.md and manifests/plugins.md. See manifests/mcps.md for locally installed MCP servers and setup commands.
