Summary

  • healCodexConfigDrift re-injected missing routing roots whenever the journal reported drift, without checking service-home ownership — the same positive admission ocx sync requires before unattended writes. A heal tick in a home this install no longer owns could write config keys over a client that now belongs to someone else.
  • The heal now gates on admitCodexWrite: a service-home refusal returns not-healed before the injector is reached, and beforeClientWrite re-runs the admission so ownership lost mid-write still throws. Other refusal authorities (config, generation, external-provider) do not block — they are not this heal's verdict.

Verification

  • bun test tests/codex-integration/catalog-auto-refresh-scheduler.test.ts — 21 pass, including two new cases: a service-home refusal never reaching the injector, and an admitted-then-refused pair throwing at the write boundary (admission called once at the gate and once inside beforeClientWrite).
  • bun x tsc --noEmit (on the sibling branch touching the same tree).

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Codex configuration drift repair now proceeds only when service-home ownership is confirmed. Ownership is checked again immediately before saving; if it is not confirmed at either check, the configuration remains unchanged. This adds an additional safeguard against applying repairs when ownership has changed or cannot be verified.

healCodexConfigDrift re-injected missing routing roots whenever the
journal said they had drifted, without checking service-home
ownership — the same admission unattended sync requires. A heal tick
inside a no-longer-owned home could write config keys over a client
that now belongs to someone else.

Gate the heal on admitCodexWrite: a service-home refusal returns
not-healed before the injector is even called, and beforeClientWrite
re-runs the admission so ownership lost mid-write still throws.
Other refusal authorities (config/generation/external-provider) do
not block — they are not this heal's verdict.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Codex configuration drift healing now checks native service-home ownership before injection and again before the client write. Tests cover foreign ownership, ownership changes at the write boundary, and existing scenarios with owned status.

Codex Drift Healing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Ownership checks and drift-heal validation
src/codex/catalog-auto-refresh.ts, tests/codex-integration/catalog-auto-refresh-scheduler.test.ts, structure/config.md
healCodexConfigDrift returns "not-healed" when ownership is not "owned" before injection. The write callback checks ownership again and throws if ownership has changed. Tests cover both checks and stub ownership in existing scenarios. Documentation describes the ownership checks alongside the timer-generation and persisted-snapshot checks.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 4d62c

Codex drift healing now refuses to proceed without confirmed service-home ownership. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains after normal checks.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4d62c

The repair now checks service-home ownership directly before attempting a configuration write and checks it again at the write boundary. This narrows a previously permissive path. A remaining timing question prevents treating the protection as fully proven.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The relevant exposure is unattended modification of the selected local Codex home’s configuration, profile, and journal, with subsequent history work. The evidence does not establish a new remote entrypoint, tenant-wide authority, or expanded set of homes.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No PR-introduced security finding is established. A foreign-home write that could pass the former admission-based gate is now refused when the ownership preflight observes foreign or unknown state. Whether ownership can change after the final check remains unproven, but that timing window was not introduced by this change.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Service-home state and manager registrations supply the ownership decision. The healer requires owned at its initial gate and again through a synchronous guard under the injector’s write coordination, before journal and client-artifact mutation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The guard runs once per injector transaction, not before every artifact replacement. Individual file writes are not a single atomic operation; the injector uses captured preimages for compensation and can report incomplete restoration.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — If ownership may be transferred concurrently by another process, establish whether that transfer shares the client-write coordination boundary or needs an additional handoff protocol. This is a proof and hardening question, not a verified regression.

src/codex/admission.ts:113 - 소유 검사(132행)보다 먼저 끝납니다.

tests/codex-integration/catalog-auto-refresh-scheduler.test.ts:412 - 경계 재검사 테스트는 호출이 두 번인지만 봅니다.

Reviewed exact head 22aa6d8. catalog-auto-refresh treats only a service-home admission result as an ownership refusal. But admitCodexWrite can return config or generation before it ever inspects native ownership. When coordinator/config admission failure overlaps a foreign or unknown service home, both current guards can therefore pass and drift heal can still mutate another installation's Codex config.

Check inspectNativeCodexOwnership().ownership === "owned" independently at both mutation boundaries, regardless of the earlier admission reason, and add a regression combining config/generation refusal with foreign/unknown ownership. Exact-head CI is green but does not exercise that interleaving.

Addressed the drift-heal ownership gap in 4d62ca5.

The tick no longer derives the service-home veto from admitCodexWrite's refusal authority. healCodexConfigDrift now imports inspectNativeCodexOwnership directly and probes ownership === "owned" at both mutation boundaries — before injectCodexConfig and inside beforeClientWrite — so a config or generation refusal can no longer pass the guard while a foreign or unknown home is underneath it.

Regression coverage: a foreign service home blocks the injector even when admission would refuse on config or on generation (test.each over both authorities), and the write-boundary recheck flips owned -> foreign mid-flight. All existing heal tests now spy the ownership seam instead of admission.

Verified: bun test tests/codex-integration/catalog-auto-refresh-scheduler.test.ts (23 pass) and bun x tsc --noEmit clean.

Approved on exact head 4d62ca5. The prior ownership-veto bypass is closed: native service-home ownership is checked independently before injector entry and again synchronously at the client-write boundary, so config/generation admission results can no longer mask a foreign or unknown home. Existing inject planning, external-provider refusal, current-config fence, write lock, and rollback remain intact.\n\nNo P0-P2 remain in the current diff. The write-boundary regression could be made stricter by tracking a simulated post-guard write rather than only call counts, but the production guard directly throws and this is a non-blocking P3 test-quality improvement. Exact-head tests/gates are green; desktop shell is still completing.
