Remove the internal UAT note from the public guide.
Line 247 ends with "Andrew must complete a real login and prompt test locally." docs-site/ is the public user documentation. This sentence is a maintainer task from the PR description. It names a person and tells readers nothing about the product. After this PR ships, the sentence also becomes false.
Track the UAT requirement in the PR or an issue instead. If an unverified-status warning is wanted, state it neutrally.

Limit the NDJSON line buffer and drop input after the terminal frame.
Two problems exist in zedEventStream:
buffergrows with no limit (lines 112-116). An upstream line with no\nstays in memory until the stream ends, so memory use has no bound.if (finished) return;on line 118 only stops the current chunk. The nexttransformcall appends more data and runsprocessLineagain. After[DONE],stream_ended, or afailedstatus, later frames still reachemit. The delegate parser can then receive text or tool deltas aftermessage_stop,response.completed, or an error payload. This breaks the terminal-last event order.

Review comment
Keep Zed credential exchange calls outside the guarded dispatch executor.
Zed is registered as an OAuth provider, so the response adapter supplies oauthDispatch through ctx.executor. fetchResponse passes that executor to zedLlmFetch, which reuses it for /client/users/me, /client/llm_tokens, and /completions.
When account selection changes, oauthDispatch rebuilds the request and replaces its URL, method, headers, and body. A token exchange can therefore be sent as a rebuilt /completions request with the token-exchange body. These credential calls also consume physical-send and failure accounting, while the adapter send budget covers only the logical completion request.
Use the plain provider transport for the user and LLM-token lookups. Use the guarded executor only for /completions.

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
The failure cooldown does nothing when no stale roster exists, so every catalog poll fetches again.
Line 266 returns early only when the provider is cooling down and a stale entry exists (isModelsFetchCoolingDown(...) && stale). After the first failed Zed discovery, no scoped stale cache exists: this happens after a first login, after clearModelCache, or after an account switch. The condition is then false, so every catalog poll calls resolveZedModels again. The generic path's comment explains why this is harmful: "the dashboard polls this path per page load". The Devin (Line 367) and Cursor (Line 448) branches return during cooldown whether or not a stale roster exists.
Comment c1 makes the impact worse: each repeated attempt has no deadline. A stalled Zed endpoint therefore adds one more hung fetch on every poll.
Fix: Match the Devin and Cursor branches.

The manual-input loop keeps running after login finishes. An empty input also makes it spin.
The manual IIFE runs while (true). It exits only when parseManualCallback succeeds. Two problems follow:
- The loop outlives the race. The browser callback can win the
Promise.raceon Line 100, orcancelledcan reject after an abort or the 5-minute timeout. In both cases the loop keeps callingctrl.onManualCodeInput(). The CLI or dashboard then keeps showing a paste prompt, and the prompt stays pending afterloginZedhas returned or thrown.finallystops the server but not this loop. - Empty input and invalid input are never reported. If
onManualCodeInputresolves""without waiting (for example, the user presses Enter, or the controller has no pending input), Line 95continues straight into another call and the loop never yields. An invalid paste is swallowed on Line 96, so the user gets no error message.
Fix:
- Stop the loop when the race settles or the signal aborts.
- Report a parse failure through
ctrl.onProgress.

The discovery limits are duplicated between this module and the registry entry.
This module hard-codes MODEL_RESPONSE_MAX_BYTES = 4 MiB and MODEL_MAX_ROWS = 2_000 on Lines 18-20. src/providers/registry/entries-core.ts Lines 170-174 declares the same facts in modelDiscovery (url, maxResponseBytes, maxModels). resolveZedModels never reads the registry values. The Zed branch in src/codex/catalog/provider-models.ts also bypasses captured.discovery, so the registry modelDiscovery block has no effect on Zed discovery. A future edit to either copy will silently diverge from the other.
Fix: Choose one owner for these values:
- Pass
captured.discovery.maxResponseBytes/maxModelsintoresolveZedModels. - Or remove the registry
modelDiscoveryblock and keep the constants here as the single source.
As per coding guidelines: "Provider catalog metadata belongs in the canonical provider registry and derivation flow. Do not duplicate provider facts across independent pickers or seeds."

Zed network calls have no deadline and bypass the shared provider outbound layer.
The root cause is in src/providers/zed.ts. Every HTTP call uses options.fetchFn ?? globalThis.fetch with only the caller's optional signal, and neither caller passes a signal. One discovery can make up to four sequential unbounded requests: /client/users/me, /client/llm_tokens, /models, and a 401 retry.
Failure mode: a stalled cloud.zed.dev blocks the catalog gather and the dashboard connectivity test indefinitely. The generic paths bound the same work with AbortSignal.timeout(8000).
Second effect: these calls also skip providerOutboundGet/providerOutboundPost. They ignore the per-provider proxy/noProxy route and the destination policy. docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/configuration/providers.md states that the route applies to discovery and connection tests.
src/providers/zed.ts#L367-L377: Add a default metadata-request deadline, for exampleAbortSignal.any([signal, AbortSignal.timeout(8000)]), inzedLlmFetch, fetchZedLlmToken, andfetchZedAuthenticatedUser. Add a regression test for the Zed account identity after OAuth failover.
Two code paths set _zedAuthContext. Line 604 sets it during initial resolution. Lines 236-240 set it again in applyFailoverSnapshot, on both parsed and retryParsed. zedCredentials in src/adapters/zed.ts (lines 29-35) combines provider.apiKey with _zedAuthContext.userId. If the two values come from different accounts, buildZedUserAuthHeader sends account B's token with account A's user id to /client/llm_tokens.
The only focused test is tests/providers/zed-hosted-provider.test.ts lines 103-153. It sets _zedAuthContext by hand and does not run rotation. Add a test that rotates from account A to account B through applyFailoverSnapshot. The test must assert that the next buildRequest sends "<B userId> <B token>" on the token exchange. The same test must cover the retryParsed !== parsed clone path.
The path instruction requires this test: "Flag PRs that change shared routing, adapters, config, or server behavior without touching tests."

Release train 4 triage (reviewed against dev 24b2f39 at head 8ae2011; T4-P-5912): Hold. Zed provider conflicts in models/structure. Reviewed exact head 8ae20119f4ce5281e8af5e9637e6fff8e858e3d9. Multiple blockers remain. P1: the open_ai path selects createResponsesPassthroughAdapter, whose normal parser emits text/failure/completed but no function/tool-call events; tests mask this by listing Zed as tool-less, so coding tool calls are dropped and the turn can report done. P2: stream_ended and EOF are synthesized as successful provider terminals even though current Zed treats StreamEnded as transport-completeness evidence; this can duplicate terminals or let an empty fake completed snapshot replace real output/usage, and truncated EOF succeeds. P2: model/account discovery uses global fetch without request cancellation, deadline, configured egress, or shared outbound policy; stalled discovery survives client abort and retains modelInflight, while completion dispatch can be reused incorrectly for metadata calls. P2: supported_effort_levels is parsed as string[], but current Zed returns {name,value,is_default}[], so live reasoning ladders disappear. P2: process-global caches are keyed by raw long-lived access tokens and never evicted on reauth, retaining old credentials/tokens/rosters indefinitely; organization/token acquisition also lacks single-flight. Rebase (248 behind/conflicting), resolve all eight threads, add real tool-turn and realistic roster regressions plus lifecycle/cache bounds, and obtain exact-head CI/UAT/sponsorship. Keep draft; the feature is not superseded.

Pass all IncomingMeta fields to the delegate.
When a Zed request delegates to anthropic or openai-chat, the current safeIncoming drops imageTierBias. After an upstream 413, the response router sets this bias and includes it on the next request build. The delegate then receives no bias and can rebuild the same image payload, so the retry can fail with another 413.
The send-accounting fields are also dropped, but the inspected code does not show a current Anthropic or xAI consumer for them. Preserve them for the delegate contract and future run-turn accounting.

Change only message items in input. The current code breaks tool-call follow-up turns.
The Array.isArray(providerRequest.input) branch runs on every item in input. It has three problems:
roleis added to non-message items. If an item has norole, the code setsrole: "user". Items such asfunction_call,function_call_output,reasoningandcustom_tool_callnever have arole. After the first tool call, every follow-up turn sends{type:"function_call", role:"user", ...}. A Responses-shaped backend can reject this shape.- Assistant text gets the wrong type. The code changes content parts with
type: "text"toinput_textfor every role. Forassistantmessages, the Responses API expectsoutput_text. - Assistant string content gets the wrong type. For an
assistantitem, the code wraps a stringcontentasinput_text. It should beoutput_text.
Fix: change only items where type is message or missing. Pick the content part type from the role.

Thank you for this, @andrew05060414. The maintainers decided to ship the Zed Hosted AI provider as an experimental, use-at-your-own-risk option, and your work has been carried onto current On top of your branch, #6362 keeps the account token and user id out of every error and rejection on the credential-bearing calls, moves the connection probe out of Closing this in favor of #6362. |
…(carry #5912) (#6362) Carries #5912 by @andrew05060414. It adds an experimental, use-at-your-own-risk Zed Hosted AI provider: - native-app RSA callback login - an account-scoped short-lived LLM token - a bounded live model roster - Anthropic, Google, Responses and Chat requests wrapped in Zed's /completions envelope The provider is opt-in behind the elevated-risk login warning. Maintainer follow-ups: - requests sign with Zed's user_id (OAuthAccessSnapshot.providerUserId) rather than the store slot id - the stream fails closed on malformed, oversized, partial or unterminated frames - catalog calls get an 8 s deadline - the manual-paste login stops once login settles - upstream failure text is scrubbed of the account token and user id Co-authored-by: Andrew <shiyuanwang@ucsb.edu> Co-authored-by: Andrew <andrewwangmail@gmail.com>
