feat(claude): first-party Desktop Code tab model bindings - #5681
Conversation
…itself mock.module rewrites the live namespace, so the mock read its own resolveAdapter and froze any later test in the same process that dispatched a real adapter (the new intercept binding case). The binding case also uses a provider id no other suite shares.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to This change routes Desktop Code-tab picker models to OpenCodex routes. A single malformed binding in a hand-edited config can reset the loaded configuration to defaults, which drops the active providers and accounts until someone restores the backup. A binding saved with mixed case appears to work but is silently ignored. Fix both before merging; the other items are small text and documentation corrections. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 4 | ❌ 1❌ Failed checks (1 warning)

**Use normal routing rules in the empty state**
The resolver checks cc.modelMap before falling back to the original picker ID. Therefore, a picker model can use a matching global modelMap entry even when no first-party bindings exist.

Normalize or reject mixed-case picker ids. The current code saves bindings that can never match.
BINDING_ID_PATTERN on Line 23 is case-insensitive (/i). The consumer, resolveInboundModel (src/claude/inbound-model-options.ts), looks up map[model], which is an exact, case-sensitive key match. Claude Desktop sends lowercase picker ids.
Here is the trigger. A user types claude-Sonnet-4-6 in the dashboard, which passes trimmedId.startsWith("claude-") in gui/src/components/ClaudeFirstPartyBindings.tsx Line 57. Or the user runs ocx claude desktop bind Claude-sonnet-4-6 zai/glm-5.3-flash. parseInterceptBindingPatch (Lines 114-117) accepts the id and stores it unchanged. The PUT returns ok: true, and status lists the binding. After that, every Desktop request for claude-sonnet-4-6 misses the overlay and keeps going to Anthropic native passthrough. Nothing shows the user an error.
Fix it in one place, so the schema, the PUT route and the runtime reader all agree. Either drop the i flag, or lowercase the id in parseInterceptBindingPatch before storing it:
🐛 Proposed fix
-const BINDING_ID_PATTERN = /^claude-[a-z0-9][a-z0-9.\-]*$/i;
+// Lookup in resolveInboundModel is case-sensitive and Desktop sends lowercase ids.
+const BINDING_ID_PATTERN = /^claude-[a-z0-9][a-z0-9.\-]*$/;In the GUI, pass the id through toLowerCase() before saving. This lets a mixed-case entry get normalized instead of rejected:
- const trimmedId = pickerId.trim();
+ const trimmedId = pickerId.trim().toLowerCase();Please also add a regression case to tests/claude-integration/claude-intercept-model-bindings.test.ts. It should cover parseInterceptBindingPatch({ set: { "claude-Sonnet-4-6": "x/y" } }).

Keep intercept.modelMap load-tolerant.
loadConfig does not salvage this field. salvageConfigCandidate only handles routingProfiles, combos, and claudeCode.desktopProfile. A malformed claudeCode.intercept.modelMap entry therefore reaches the backup-and-defaults fallback after the merged parse fails. This can discard the active providers and accounts.
Make load filter malformed modelMap entries, consistent with readInterceptBindings. Move the current strict checks into validateConfigCandidate so write requests still reject invalid keys and routes.

Summary
In first-party mode Claude Desktop stays signed in to claude.ai and only the Code tab's Claude Code goes through the local intercept. That part works, but the Code tab picker is filled by claude.ai's model selector config, so no opencodex model can ever appear in it. Probing Claude.app 1.18286.0 confirmed this: the renderer builds the picker from
modelSelectorConfig(oy("code")), and~/.claude/settings.jsonmodel/availableModelscannot add a row. The only way to reach an opencodex model was the globalclaudeCode.modelMap, which also reroutesocx claudeand had no first-party UI.This PR adds first-party model bindings. A binding maps a Desktop picker model id to an opencodex route, and only Claude Code traffic that arrives through the intercept honours it.
