Closes #2063 — AI-4632

What & why

When a hosted Claude agent's worktree already has a .mcp.json, the launcher merges the user's project-scope servers into it, but it wrote a fresh { "mcpServers": … } document and dropped every other top-level key, leaving a spurious diff on a tracked file. The merge now edits the parsed document in place, so the other keys and existing servers survive and a missing or non-object mcpServers is replaced

Verification

  • New Merge_preserves_unrelated_top_level_keys failed before the change ($schema missing) and passes after it; ClaudeLauncherWriteMcpConfigTests 11/11, daemon ClaudeLauncher* 44/44
  • dotnet publish src/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon -c Release: no IL3050/IL2026 warnings

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Updating MCP server settings now preserves unrelated entries in an existing configuration, including its schema declaration and previously configured servers.
    • Existing configuration content is retained when new server settings are added, rather than being replaced.

Walkthrough

WriteMcpConfig now preserves unrelated top-level keys in an existing .mcp.json while merging MCP servers. A test verifies that $schema and an existing server remain after an imported server is added.

Changes: Claude MCP configuration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Merge configuration and verify preservation
src/Capacitor.Cli.Daemon/Harness/Claude/ClaudeLauncher.cs, test/Capacitor.Cli.Tests.Unit/Harness/Claude/ClaudeLauncherWriteMcpConfigTests.cs
WriteMcpConfig reuses a valid existing configuration object and mcpServers object. It writes the resulting document, preserving other top-level keys. The test verifies that $schema and an existing server remain when an imported server is added.

The merge preserves unrelated configuration keys correctly. This is mergeable with a bounded testing follow-up for replacing null or scalar mcpServers values.

Explanation

Issue #2063 requires preservation of non-server top-level keys in an existing .mcp.json. WriteMcpConfig now parses the existing root and updates its mcpServers object instead of creating a new root. The new Merge_preserves_unrelated_top_level_keys test verifies that $schema, the committed server, and the imported server remain present.

Explanation

The diff changes only ClaudeLauncher.WriteMcpConfig and adds a focused regression test. Both changes directly support issue #2063. No unrelated production behavior or unrelated test coverage appears in the reviewed diff.

Add a test for a non-object mcpServers value in .mcp.json.

The new merge test uses an object-valued mcpServers. The PR adds a branch that replaces a null or non-object mcpServers value (ClaudeLauncher.cs:17-20). No test in ClaudeLauncherWriteMcpConfigTests.cs sets mcpServers to null or a scalar. A regression in that branch would not fail any test in the file. The current code handles a null value correctly, so this adds coverage for working behavior. A scalar value, such as "mcpServers": "x", failed at the base commit and takes this branch now, so a scalar fixture can cover that change too.
