Summary

Adds function_search_mode: jev so search_functions can evaluate relevance with TypeSafe independently of local MiniLM. hybrid remains the default and the public search contract is preserved.

  • Score the full eligible installed catalog and the existing registry discovery pool, preserving exact matches, session deduplication, and result limits. Bound payloads, concurrency, and the shared search deadline; service failures fall back to Hybrid, then Lexical when the local model is unavailable. Valid no-match responses stay empty. The Jev deadline excludes local fallback and registry HTTP time.
  • Configure the Jev API key, model, timeout, and relevance threshold through iii-directory configuration and its console form. The masked key field supports hot reload; clearing it restores the worker's startup TYPESAFE_API_KEY fallback. Credential values are redacted from debug output.
  • Keep an installed MiniLM bundle and its catalog index ready in Hybrid and Jev modes, including safe mode changes and catalog rebuilds. Successful Jev responses skip local query inference. Only Hybrid mode downloads a missing bundle at startup; a disabled, missing, unready, stale, or failing local index uses Lexical fallback.
  • Add an opt-in evaluation tool and 37 calibration/holdout cases. Remote evaluation requires an explicit flag; reports distinguish completed ranking, fallback, and known usage.

Validation

  • Rust library: 497 passed, 5 ignored in the default run; search schema and MiniLM target checks: 4 passed. The 2 new model-dependent tests also passed when explicitly run against the installed pinned MiniLM bundle, covering installed and registry fallback, HTTP errors, timeout, invalid responses, missing credentials, stale indexes, and valid no-match responses.
  • Benchmark example: 11 tests passed; lexical smoke run completed all 37 cases with report schema v3.
  • UI: 62 Vitest tests and 7 frontmatter tests passed; TypeScript and production build passed.
  • cargo clippy --locked --manifest-path iii-directory/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings passed with SKIP_UI_BUILD=1.
  • Rust formatting and diff whitespace checks passed; local merge check against current origin/main found no conflicts.

Evaluation limit

The live TypeSafe API was not called. Jev quality, production latency, and cost still require an opt-in remote evaluation; local benchmark results do not establish Jev quality gains.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added Jev remote relevance ranking for function search.
    • Added configuration options for Jev API credentials, model, timeout, and relevance threshold.
    • Added Jev mode to the configuration interface, including masked API-key entry and validated numeric fields.
    • Jev falls back to Hybrid and then Lexical search when unavailable or unsuccessful.
    • Search settings can be updated through hot reload where supported.
  • Documentation

    • Updated configuration and function-search documentation with Jev setup, fallback behavior, validation, and model requirements.

Changes

Jev function-search mode

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration and UI controls
iii-directory/src/config.rs, iii-directory/ui/src/configuration/*, iii-directory/README.md, iii-directory/config.yaml.example
Adds Jev mode and its API key, model, timeout, and relevance settings. Adds validation, password handling, hot-reload behavior, Hybrid-only model requirements, UI controls, and numeric draft editing.
Remote Jev ranking client
iii-directory/src/functions/search_jev.rs, iii-directory/src/functions/mod.rs
Adds bounded TypeSafe requests, canonical payloads, concurrency limits, deadlines, response validation, deterministic ranking, usage statistics, and structured failures.
Search and registry integration
iii-directory/src/functions/search.rs, iii-directory/src/functions/search_relevance.rs, iii-directory/src/hook.rs, iii-directory/src/main.rs
Routes installed and registry searches through Jev when configured. Preserves exact lanes and falls back to Hybrid or Lexical ranking when Jev is unavailable.
Mode lifecycle and shared state
iii-directory/src/configuration.rs, iii-directory/src/functions/search_semantic.rs
Serializes configuration application, enables semantic search for non-Lexical modes, rebuilds indexes on activation, and prevents disabled or stale rebuilds from publishing.
Benchmarking and evaluation artifacts
iii-directory/examples/benchmark_jev_search.rs, iii-directory/tests/fixtures/jev_search_cases.json, iii-directory/src/functions/search_jev_integration.rs
Adds opt-in benchmark modes, strict fixture validation, relevance metrics, remote usage accounting, reproducible reports, and integration coverage for fallback, credentials, concurrency, lifecycle, and registry behavior.

26-26: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Reuse the production batching limits.

benchmark_jev_search.rs hardcodes LANES_PER_BATCH = 6, "max_batches": 3, and the 1..=18 capability range. benchmark_installed derives its behavior from MAX_SEARCH_QUERIES and MAX_SEARCH_BATCHES. A production limit change can therefore make lane attribution, validation, and report metadata inconsistent. Expose the production constants and derive the capability limit from their product.

Add a non-ignored regression test for the ready MiniLM fallback.

The normal iii-directory CI job runs cargo test --locked --all-features. Cargo excludes #[ignore] tests unless --ignored is passed. The two tests that exercise Jev failure with a ready Hybrid index are both #[cfg(minilm)] and #[ignore]. The non-ignored test covers only the unavailable-Hybrid path. The separate minilm_target job checks compilation, not this behavior.

When rank_with_jev fails, installed_search must call production_minilm_rankings when a ready MiniLM index exists. Add a non-ignored test with a deterministic ready semantic test state. Force Jev to fail and assert that the result uses Hybrid rankings instead of lexical rankings. Removing only #[ignore] is not sufficient because the test requires an external model bundle and runtime.

<search_synthesis>
In React 19.2.8, the renderToStaticMarkup function continues to render React trees into a static HTML string without React-specific attributes [1][2]. There are no specific changes in React 19.2.8 regarding the serialization of standard HTML attributes like autoComplete, spellCheck, or inputMode [3][4]. React maintains a list of supported HTML attributes that are serialized to DOM elements during server-side rendering [5][6]. Attributes such as autoComplete, spellCheck, and inputMode are standard HTML attributes recognized and correctly serialized by react-dom/server APIs [7][5]. When using renderToStaticMarkup, React maps these React-defined attribute names (camelCase) to their corresponding valid HTML attribute names (lowercase) in the resulting output [1][2]. Key points regarding attribute serialization in renderToStaticMarkup: - No React-specific attributes (e.g., data-reactroot) are included in the output, keeping the markup clean and static [8][2]. - Standard HTML attributes (including autoComplete, spellCheck, and inputMode) are serialized according to standard HTML specifications [7][5]. - React 19.2.8 is a minor patch release primarily focused on internal maintenance, such as updating repository references and performance improvements in Server Component decoding; it does not introduce changes to core attribute serialization logic [3][4].

Assert lowercase HTML attribute names in server-rendered markup.

React 19.2.8 serializes the native <input> props from renderToStaticMarkup as autocomplete, spellcheck, and inputmode. The current camelCase assertions fail.

…d triggers alongside functions (#1201)

* feat(iii-directory): search installed skills with Jev

`directory::search_functions` in Jev mode now also judges the installed
skill documents against the requested capabilities and lists the matches
under a new `skills` section (`{ id, title, description }`, at most six
round-robin across capabilities) with a guidance note to read them via
`directory::skills::get { id }`.

- search_jev: `JevOptions.corpus` selects the corpus; skills travel as
  `state.skills` (`skill_id`, trimmed `title: description`) with a how-to
question instead of the operation question; functions are unchanged.
- search: `installed_skill_docs` resolves the visible set like
`directory::skills::list` but reads "installed" off the live function
catalog (no compose::status round trip) and drops
`disable_model_invocation` skills; `jev_skills` runs concurrently with
the function batches under the same Jev deadline and any failure only
omits the section. Lexical and Hybrid never search skills.
- Jev tests pin their skill roots to a temp dir (the defaults resolved to
the crate's shipped skills and ~/.agents/skills); four new tests cover
the section, the threshold, a failed skill block, and non-Jev modes.
- Wire-schema golden regenerated; README documents the section.

* fix(iii-directory): resolve skill visibility like skills::list for the Jev search

Live run on the my-project stack: the function-catalog namespaces missed
every worker whose name differs from its namespace (ade → console::*,
iii-directory → directory::*), so only 22 of the 51 model-invocable skills
reached Jev. `Deps` now carries the registered-workers cache and client
that `directory::skills::*` use; the namespace set stays as a floor for
tests and the benchmark (`None`). Debug logs list the skill candidates and
the top-5 scores per Jev lane before the relevance cut, for calibration.

Measured live (jev-1.13.0, 51 skills, ~600 ms per search): "build a page
that a worker injects into the ADE console" → console-injectable-ui 0.80,
ade/injectable-ui 0.77, ade-worker-design 0.77; "orchestrate sub-agents"
→ harness/orchestration/index 0.91; "schedule a recurring job with cron"
→ cron 0.75; "resolve a git merge conflict" → resolving-merge-conflicts
0.46, just under the 0.5 threshold.

* feat(iii-directory): render the installed skills section in the search card

The `directory::search_functions` call card now shows the `skills` section
the Jev search returns: an "installed skills" group of collapsible rows,
each a book-icon id, the title, the slim description, and a copyable
`directory::skills::get { "id": ... }` call. The header meta row gains a
`skills` count, and a result that matched only skills (no functions, no
installable) no longer renders the "No functions matched" empty state.

`parseDiscoverResponse` parses the optional `skills` array with the same
strict shape guard as `installable` (drift → the generic JSON panes). New
parser + render tests; the dist bundle rebuilds from source via build.rs.
Pre-existing StatusPanel mock failures in configuration/index.test.tsx are
unrelated (present on main since #1193).

* feat(iii-directory): report the search mode that actually ran

`directory::search_functions` now returns `search_mode` (`jev` | `hybrid` |
`lexical`), and the console card shows it as its badge in place of the
static "search" label. It reports what actually ranked the results, not
what is configured: a batch that falls back on a missing key, a remote
failure or a cold local model reports the tier it really reached.

`installed_search` already computed this ladder for its tracing only, so
`search_batch` now mirrors it from the outcome's jev/hybrid flags into
`BatchOutcome`, and the handler folds the batches into the highest tier
reached. `FunctionSearchMode` gains `PartialOrd`/`Ord` for that fold
(declaration order is the ladder). The UI parses the field as optional so
transcript rows from workers that predate it still render.

Live-verified on the stack: configured jev with a key → `jev`; hybrid →
`hybrid`; lexical → `lexical`; configured jev with NO key → `lexical`
while the MiniLM index was still cold after a restart, then `hybrid` once
warm. Golden schema regenerated; 501 Rust and 28 UI tests green.

* feat(template): pass TYPESAFE_API_KEY to iii-directory in the dev stack

`iii compose` builds each worker's environment from `env_file` and
`environment:` only, so a key exported in the operator's shell never
reached iii-directory and every Jev search fell back to hybrid with
"Jev API key is missing". Interpolate it from the daemon's environment
with an empty default, and make `JevSearch::new` treat an empty key as
absent so an unset variable still reports "missing" instead of sending
an empty bearer.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016JKZrZsWrsaou8Weq599dV

* feat(iii-directory): search registered triggers alongside functions and skills

Jev mode now judges the engine's registered trigger bindings
(`engine::registered-triggers::list`) against the requested capabilities
and returns the matches under `triggers` ({ id, trigger_type,
function_id, worker_name?, config }), with a guidance note pointing at
`engine::functions::info` for the bound function. Ephemeral console
listeners (`iii::*` functions, `console:*` types) are skipped. Trigger
ids stay out of the Jev state: they are opaque and were steering the
judge (a named id scored 0.61 where the uuid twin scored 0.05).

The skills lane and the new triggers lane share one side-lane ranker.
The console card gains a "registered triggers" section and count.

Live-verified against jev-1.13.0: 17 candidates after filtering, 2
requests, ~1 s alongside the skills lane.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016JKZrZsWrsaou8Weq599dV

* fix(iii-directory): send the config seed only on first boot

`register_config` passed the `--config` YAML as `initial_value` on every
boot, and `configuration::register` replaces the stored value whenever
`initial_value` is present. Every worker restart therefore stomped runtime
edits (console Settings, `configuration::set`) back to the YAML, contrary
to the CLI doc ("on the first `configuration::register`"). Guard the seed
branch with the same existence check the no-seed branch already used.

Live-verified against the dev engine in an isolated namespace: seed
`lexical`, `configuration::set` → `jev`, reboot with the same seed keeps
`jev`.

* feat(iii-directory): separate Jev relevance floor for skills and triggers

Installed skills and registered triggers score lower than functions for
the same capability (a trigger binding that already fires for a need
lands ~0.43 where the matching function lands well above 0.5), so the
shared 0.5 floor dropped every side-lane match. Add
`function_search_jev_side_lane_min_relevance` (default 0.3, hot-reload,
same 0..1 validation) and apply it in the side-lane ranker; the function
lane keeps `function_search_jev_min_relevance`.

Live-verified: with the floor at 0.3 a config-change query returns
`directory::on-config-change` and the pre-turn/pre-trigger hooks instead
of an empty triggers section, while the function lane is unchanged.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016JKZrZsWrsaou8Weq599dV

* feat(iii-directory): rank skills and triggers in every search mode

The skills and registered-triggers side lanes ran only in Jev mode.
Lexical and Hybrid now rank the same documents locally through the
registry section's ad-hoc pipeline (BM25 with coverage pruning, fused
with the dense lane when MiniLM is live), so every mode answers with
the same three sections. One generic `side_lane` picks the ranker by
mode; ranked ids map back through the document names.

Cleanup folded in: one pair of side-lane constants, `effective_mode`
returned on `BenchmarkOutcome` instead of re-derived, the Jev state
carries a plain `ids` list instead of per-corpus id lookups, and the
calibration logging is gone.

Tests: the trigger document mapping is a pure seam (`trigger_docs`)
and the Triggers corpus runs through the Jev wiremock via `side_lane`;
`search_mode` is asserted; a gated real-MiniLM test proves the dense
lane surfaces a paraphrase BM25 misses; the console card test now
executes the skill and trigger blocks.

* fix(iii-directory): address review on the search side lanes

- Trigger documents name the config KEYS only; values (webhook URLs,
headers, tokens) stay in the local response row and never reach the
remote ranker. Pinned by a test with a token-bearing config.
- `installable`, `skills` and `triggers` carry `#[serde(default)]` so
the published response schema no longer requires sections that are
omitted when empty (`installable` had the mismatch before this PR).
- In Jev mode the side lanes have no local fallback, so a non-empty
side section was Jev-ranked: `search_mode` now reports Jev when any
side section is present even if the function lane fell back.
- Skill visibility follows `resolve_visible_skills`: a wired daemon that
  is unreachable with no cached set yields the unfiltered skill set;
without a daemon (tests, benchmarks) the catalog namespaces stay the
  floor.
