[For maintainers] Suggested jobs to run (before merge) run-slow: kosmos2 |

This is weird though, that fast CI didn't catch it. Lemme check because the error is supposed to raise every time we run generation update: ah i see, it is the slow CI assertion only, not really a major bug in generation. Oke, i'll merge |

The failure is unchanged:
AssertionError: Tensor-likes are not close!
Mismatched elements: 4 / 9 (44.4%)
Greatest absolute difference: 1.3307985067367554 at index (1, 1) (up to 0.01 allowed)
Why
The whole patch is a local rename inside Kosmos2Model.forward:
- vision_model_output = None
+ image_features = None
...
- vision_model_output=vision_model_output,
+ vision_model_output=image_features,The variable is None on that path either way and is passed to the same field, so the change is functionally inert — it cannot affect the interpolated position encodings the test compares. It does no harm, but the failure it claims to fix is still there.
No action needed on this PR itself (it is merged and behaviour-neutral); flagging it so the kosmos2 failure is not treated as resolved. It needs a real fix.

tests/models/kosmos2/test_modeling_kosmos2.py::Kosmos2ModelIntegrationTest::test_inference_interpolate_pos_encodingWhere to watch it:
The
test_inference_interpolate_pos_encodingintegration test fails becauseoutputs.vision_model_outputisNonewhen callingKosmos2Model.forwardwithpixel_values.Root cause:
Kosmos2Model.forwardinitializesvision_model_output = Noneand never updates it, even though it already runs the vision model viaget_image_features. In contrast,Kosmos2ForConditionalGeneration.forwardcorrectly captures and returns the vision model output.The patch assigns
vision_model_output = image_features(the rawBaseModelOutputWithProjectionAttentionsreturned byget_image_features, whoselast_hidden_stateis unchanged) so the output dataclass is populated as expected.Relates to #48550
