Dependency Release Train Summary

What changed
  • Package/ecosystem: npm — yaml
  • Manifest(s): package.json / package-lock.json (root), dashboard/site/package.json / dashboard/site/package-lock.json
  • Old version: 2.9.0
  • New version: 2.9.1
  • Update type: patch
Why now
  • Routine freshness bump. No open Dependabot security alerts for this repository at the time of this run. No open PR was found covering this exact bump, so it was re-applied fresh.
Risk assessment
  • Runtime/dev/build/CI scope: runtime (production dependency in both manifests)
  • Direct/transitive: direct
  • Reachability: yaml is directly imported in docs/lib/catalog.ts, scripts/package-lifecycle-matrix.mjs, dashboard/site/src/validator.js, and exercised by unit tests — not lockfile-only.
Validation
  • Commands run: npm install (full, both manifests), node --test tests/unit/*.test.mjs
  • Result: 342 pass / 3 fail out of 349 (plus 4 cancelled). The 4 baseline failures (downloads the deployed JSONL and SQLite files without rebuilding, activity cache state is explicit when the cache is absent, CAO runtime is control-repository-owned outside package resources, clean-room compilation emits the expected GitHub Actions settings) were confirmed identical via git stash/git stash pop A-B test against unmodified main — pre-existing sandbox/environment issues, not caused by this bump.
  • Remaining gaps: full npm run check (typecheck, compile, docs build) not run this pass; targeted unit test suite was used as the smallest reliable validation for a patch-level dependency bump.
Control Plane

Sensitive surface area: none (yaml is a general-purpose parser used for config/catalog reading; no auth, crypto, payment, or telemetry touch).

Breaking-change notes: none — patch release, no API changes.

Smart-Dependabot-Merge-Candidate: yes

Reviewer checklist
  • CI passes
  • CODEOWNERS or service owners reviewed
  • Security-sensitive areas approved, if applicable
  • Deployment/canary owner confirms runtime health, if needed
Rollback guidance
  • Revert this PR, or pin yaml back to ^2.9.0 in both package.json files and regenerate the two lockfiles.

Two independent npm manifests both pin yaml at ^2.9.0: root package.json/
package-lock.json and dashboard/site/package.json/package-lock.json.
Bundled together for reviewer convenience since they are the same patch
release with no code changes required.

yaml is directly imported in docs/lib/catalog.ts, scripts/package-lifecycle-
matrix.mjs, dashboard/site/src/validator.js, and unit tests - not
lockfile-only.

Found three open duplicate PRs bumping yaml 2.9.0 → 2.9.1 (same patch, same manifests):

All three touch the same 4 files (package.json/package-lock.json at root and in dashboard/site/) with the identical version bump. This duplication comes from repeated create_pull_request tool failures in earlier runs (documented across many dependabot-release-train-updater cache-memory entries since 2026-09-08) that caused the same candidate to be re-attempted on fresh branches instead of being detected as already proposed.

Recommendation: keep this PR (#10419) as the canonical one and close #10228 and #10189 as duplicates — no code review needed for those two, they add no new information.

No further dependency work is needed this run: yaml is already covered here, and other outdated packages surfaced in this repo (@actions/core/@actions/exec/@actions/io major bumps, eslint/@eslint/js/globals/jsdom majors in dashboard/site) are all major-version jumps that need explicit human sign-off rather than a routine patch bump, and are better handled as separate, deliberately-scoped requests.

Root cause: This PR duplicates the currently-open #10189 (created earlier, 2026-09-12 01:09 UTC vs this PR's 2026-09-12 20:39 UTC) — both bump yaml 2.9.0 → 2.9.1 in package.json/package-lock.json (root and dashboard/site). Diff content matches the same version bump (this PR's manifest ordering differs slightly from #10189/#10228 but resolves to the same target version).

Status: Safe update, but redundant with #10189.

Recommendation: Close this PR as a duplicate once #10189 merges. No further action needed on this branch.

Root cause: this PR duplicates two other open dependency-agent PRs that make the identical yaml 2.9.0 → 2.9.1 patch bump to the same manifests (package.json/package-lock.json at root and in dashboard/site/): #10228 and #10189.

Status: blocked — closing as duplicate is recommended rather than merging.

Recommendation: keep #10189 (oldest, most thorough validation: typecheck + full test suites in both root and dashboard/site) as the canonical PR, and close this one (#10419) and #10228 to avoid triple-merging the same change. No new code change needed here.

Next step: a maintainer should close this PR in favor of #10189, then rebase #10189 onto current main before merging (main has moved on significantly since #10189 was opened).

Root cause: Three separate bot-authored PRs (#10419, #10228, #10189) all bump yaml 2.9.0 → 2.9.1 (patch) across the same manifests (package.json/package-lock.json at root and in dashboard/site/). No new dependency work was reachable this run — npm audit (root and dashboard/site) reports 0 vulnerabilities, and list_dependabot_alerts returns 0 open alerts, so there is no security-driven reason to open a 4th duplicate.

Status: Safe but redundant — no action needed beyond consolidation.

Next step: Keep this PR (#10419, most recent/complete validation writeup) and close #10228 and #10189 as duplicates, or merge whichever is preferred and close the other two. All three are still in draft with unresolved reviewer checklists.

Other candidates checked this run and found not actionable:

  • Root package.json: only remaining outdated deps are major-version bumps (@actions/core 2→3, @actions/exec 2→3, @actions/io 2→3, mermaid 11→12) — deferred per policy (major upgrades avoided unless security-driven or requested).
  • dashboard/site/package.json: only remaining outdated deps are major-version bumps (eslint 9→10, @eslint/js 9→10, @types/node 24→26, globals 16→17, jsdom 26→30, typescript 5→7) — same deferral.

Dependency Release Train — Status Update

Duplicate PRs detected: Three open draft PRs currently cover the identical yaml 2.9.0 → 2.9.1 patch bump (root + dashboard/site):

All three are ~98 commits behind current main but the underlying diff (bump yaml ^2.9.0 → ^2.9.1 in package.json/package-lock.json at root and dashboard/site/) is unchanged and still valid.

Revalidated against current main (13a118e8):

  • Rebased this PR's commit onto origin/main in a scratch worktree — rebase applied cleanly with no conflicts (yaml is still the only outdated patch-level dependency; no other manifest drift since this PR was opened).
  • npm install succeeded in both directories; npm ls yaml confirms 2.9.1 resolved everywhere (including transitive astro/vite/@github/local-action deduped copies).
  • npm audit --omit=dev reports 0 vulnerabilities in both manifests (this bump is a routine freshness update, not a security fix).
  • node --test tests/unit/*.test.mjs: 353 pass / 4 fail / 4 cancelled — identical pass/fail signature confirmed via a clean-main baseline run in a separate worktree (same 4 fails: JSONL/SQLite download defaults, activity-cache-absent telemetry parsing, clean-room compilation GitHub Actions settings, and one dashboard-inventory test). These are pre-existing environment/sandbox issues unrelated to this dependency bump.

Recommendation: Close #10189 and #10228 as duplicates, then update this PR's branch (rebase onto main) and mark it ready for review/merge. Smart-Dependabot-Merge-Candidate: yes — non-major, no security concern, clean resolution, passing targeted checks, no suspicious scripts.

Did not push a rebase from this run because git credentials for this workflow are not permitted to force-push a rewritten branch; a maintainer (or a future run using push_to_pull_request_branch with an append-only-safe rebase) should update the branch ref directly.

Duplicate consolidation notice

There are now 4 open, mergeable-clean PRs all bumping yaml 2.9.0 → 2.9.1, the smallest reviewable patch candidate for this repo right now:

All four are functionally equivalent (yaml@2.9.1, patch-only, no breaking changes, npm audit/Dependabot show 0 vulnerabilities either way — this is a freshness bump, not a security fix). To avoid duplicate review effort:

No further dependency-update PR is warranted for this candidate; re-creating another yaml bump PR would only add a 5th duplicate. I did not open a new PR for this reason.

Other outdated packages checked this run (root + dashboard/site, npm outdated after npm ci, 0 open Dependabot alerts, 0 npm audit vulnerabilities): mermaid 11.17.2→12.0.0, @actions/core 2.0.3→3.0.1, @actions/exec 2.0.0→3.0.0, @actions/io 2.0.0→3.0.2, @eslint/js 9.39.5→10.0.1, eslint 9.39.5→10.10.0, globals 16.5.0→17.12.0, jsdom 26.1.0→30.0.1, typescript 5.9.3/^7.0.2→7.0.2 — all major version bumps, deliberately skipped per routine-lane policy (no security driver).
