Review Change Stack

Walkthrough

Updated 21 maintained-app manifests to newer releases or newer package builds. Changes include version fields, patched-version detection thresholds, installer URLs, and SHA-256 checksums. Existing application detection and install/uninstall references remain unchanged in most manifests. The IntelliJ IDEA macOS manifest now references an uninstall script that quits com.jetbrains.intellij before removing the application bundle.

Possibly related PRs

  • fleetdm/fleet#49797: Updates the same maintained-app output definitions with newer versions, patch thresholds, installers, and checksums.
  • fleetdm/fleet#51177: Updates overlapping Claude, Firefox Nightly, GitHub Desktop, and Postman manifests.
  • fleetdm/fleet#51624: Updates overlapping Firefox Nightly, Postman, and Rive manifests.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 89991

The maintained-app updates refresh release metadata, but IntelliJ uninstall can still remove its app bundle when the running application has not been confirmed to exit. This is a bounded uninstall reliability risk that should be addressed before relying on the new behavior.

running-state check is indeterminate or the application does not quit before

the IntelliJ cleanup flow to execute sudo rm -rf only when quit_application

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Do not remove the bundle when IntelliJ is not confirmed to have quit.

quit_application suppresses osascript errors and treats every result other than "true" as “not running”. It also only logs a timeout, then the caller always executes sudo rm -rf. If a running IntelliJ process cannot be observed or does not quit, the uninstall deletes the bundle while the process is still active. Return a failure for an indeterminate check or timeout, and gate removal on successful termination.

In `@ee/maintained-apps/outputs/intellij-idea/darwin.json` at line 21, The
quit_application function must return failure when the running-state check is
indeterminate or the application does not quit before timeout, rather than
treating suppressed osascript errors as not running. Update the IntelliJ cleanup
flow to execute sudo rm -rf only when quit_application succeeds, while
preserving removal of the bundle when termination is confirmed.
