Review Change Stack

Walkthrough

Maintained-app output metadata was refreshed for multiple macOS and Windows applications. Updates include new versions, patch-detection thresholds, installer URLs, and SHA-256 checksums. ChatGPT’s installer format and install/uninstall scripts were updated, Gemini’s uninstall script was replaced, and Weasis received an uninstall script that processes related MSI product codes. DBeaver entries retained their versions and URLs while receiving updated checksums.

Inline comments:
In `@ee/maintained-apps/outputs/chatgpt/darwin.json`:
- Around line 18-20: The uninstall script’s quit target and support-file paths
use com.openai.codex while the managed installation uses com.openai.chat. Update
quit_application and every com.openai.codex cleanup path in the uninstall script
to target com.openai.chat, preserving the existing ChatGPT.app removal flow and
support-file cleanup behavior.
- Around line 18-20: Replace the quoted sudo rmdir '~/.codex' command in the
uninstall flow with the existing trash function, passing LOGGED_IN_USER and the
~/.codex target so the path resolves for the logged-in user and non-empty
directories are handled consistently.

In `@ee/maintained-apps/outputs/google-gemini/darwin.json`:
- Line 19: Update remove_receipt_files so the --only-files pipeline prefixes
paths with FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION, matching the --only-dirs pipeline and its
diagnostic echo; remove the inconsistent INSTALL_LOCATION-only prefix to ensure
files on non-root package volumes are removed from the correct location.

Uninstall script targets com.openai.codex but the managed app is com.openai.chat.

The exists/patched queries (lines 6-7) and the install script (ref 61140545) both reference bundle identifier com.openai.chat and install ChatGPT.app. However, the new uninstall script (ref 8a4a4a85) calls quit_application 'com.openai.codex' and trashes only com.openai.codex.* support paths. This means:

  1. The running ChatGPT app (com.openai.chat) won't be quit during uninstall — the script tries to quit Codex instead.
  2. ChatGPT's support files (com.openai.chat preferences, caches, saved state, etc.) won't be cleaned up — only Codex artifacts are removed.

If the app has genuinely been rebranded to Codex, the exists/patched queries and install script should also be updated to com.openai.codex. Otherwise, the uninstall script should target com.openai.chat.

In `@ee/maintained-apps/outputs/chatgpt/darwin.json` around lines 18 - 20, The
uninstall script’s quit target and support-file paths use com.openai.codex while
the managed installation uses com.openai.chat. Update quit_application and every
com.openai.codex cleanup path in the uninstall script to target com.openai.chat,
preserving the existing ChatGPT.app removal flow and support-file cleanup
behavior.

sudo rmdir '~/.codex' won't expand ~ and only removes empty directories.

The tilde is inside single quotes, so it won't expand to the user's home directory — the command will literally attempt rmdir on a path starting with ~. Additionally, rmdir only succeeds on empty directories; if ~/.codex contains files, this silently fails. Use the trash function with $LOGGED_IN_USER for consistency with the rest of the script, or expand the path explicitly.

🔧 Suggested fix
-sudo rmdir '~/.codex'
+trash $LOGGED_IN_USER '~/.codex'

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Path prefix inconsistency in remove_receipt_files causes incorrect file removal.

In the remove_receipt_files function within the b919e16a uninstall script, the --only-files removal command uses sed "s|^|/${INSTALL_LOCATION}/|" while the --only-dirs removal command correctly uses sed "s|^|${FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION}/|". When the package volume is not / (e.g., /Volumes/Macintosh HD), the file removal command drops the volume component and targets the wrong path. The echo/log line also claims ${FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION} is used, making the discrepancy misleading during debugging.

🔧 Proposed fix: use FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION consistently
- echo "sudo pkgutil --only-files --files \"$PKGID\" | sed \"s|^|${FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION}/|\" | tr '\\n' '\\0' | /usr/bin/sudo -u root -E -- /usr/bin/xargs -0 -- /bin/rm -rf"
- sudo pkgutil --only-files --files "$PKGID" | sed "s|^|/${INSTALL_LOCATION}/|" | tr '\n' '\0' | /usr/bin/sudo -u root -E -- /usr/bin/xargs -0 -- /bin/rm -rf
+ echo "sudo pkgutil --only-files --files \"$PKGID\" | sed \"s|^|${FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION}/|\" | tr '\\n' '\\0' | /usr/bin/sudo -u root -E -- /usr/bin/xargs -0 -- /bin/rm -rf"
+ sudo pkgutil --only-files --files "$PKGID" | sed "s|^|${FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION}/|" | tr '\n' '\0' | /usr/bin/sudo -u root -E -- /usr/bin/xargs -0 -- /bin/rm -rf

In `@ee/maintained-apps/outputs/google-gemini/darwin.json` at line 19, Update
remove_receipt_files so the --only-files pipeline prefixes paths with
FULL_INSTALL_LOCATION, matching the --only-dirs pipeline and its diagnostic
echo; remove the inconsistent INSTALL_LOCATION-only prefix to ensure files on
non-root package volumes are removed from the correct location.

Changed ChatGPT's installer format from DMG (disk image) to ZIP. Updated the installation script to extract the ZIP file using `unzip` instead of mounting with `hdiutil`, while maintaining the same app installation and relaunching logic.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Fail before replacing the existing app when ZIP extraction fails.

unzip is not followed by || exit 1, and the script then moves the existing ChatGPT.app before copying the extracted app. A corrupt archive or extraction failure can therefore remove the working installation and leave no replacement. Fail fast and verify "$TMPDIR/ChatGPT.app" exists before moving the current app.
