Tested on newer versions and also on the version listed in the rage shake. Could not reproduce the issue, and if there were an obvious cause I would have expected recurrence of this issue since the original report in Apr (now Jun). Closing for now - will reopen and reinvestigate if something similar comes in again in the future.

Thanks to the steer above, this can be reproduced in the following way and seen in the current version of element web.

STR

• start a local dev version of element web with the current composer selected
• open a network tab and record the outgoing requests
• go to settings and enable the rich text editor
• you should see a family of three requests that fire on toggling that button (nb these may be numbered differently compared to those in the video)
• block those requests in the network tab
• deselect the rich text editor selection and refresh the page
• now, trying to enable the rich text editor will cause a crash as detailed above
