tl;dr: this should be implemented as a new workflow_call input (defaulting to 7 days ago) and wired into the docs-drift prompt text, because the current window is hardcoded and not user-configurable.

Recommendation

Add a new input on .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md such as lookback-window (string, default "7 days ago"), then use $\{\{ inputs.lookback-window }} in the Data Gathering instructions where git log --since=... is currently fixed. Also update the consumer docs/example so callers can override it via with:.

Findings

• Current workflow_call inputs for docs-drift are only:
  • .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md:18 additional-instructions
  • .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md:23 setup-commands
  • .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md:28 messages-footer
• The lookback is currently fixed in prompt text:
  • .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md:83 uses --since="7 days ago"
  • .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md:85 runs git log --since="7 days ago" --oneline --stat
• User-facing docs do not expose a lookback override:
  • gh-agent-workflows/docs-drift/README.md:24-27 only lists additional-instructions and setup-commands
  • gh-agent-workflows/docs-drift/example.yml:14 calls the reusable workflow with no with: inputs
• Related prior work is complete but not equivalent:
  • Issue #186 + PR #188 changed logic from weekday heuristic to fixed 7-day window; they did not add configurability.

Detailed Action Plan

1. Add a new reusable workflow input in .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md under on.workflow_call.inputs (near lines 17-32):
   • Name: lookback-window (or similar existing naming convention)
   • Type: string
   • Default: "7 days ago"
2. Update Data Gathering text in .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.md:83-85:
   • Replace literal 7 days ago with $\{\{ inputs.lookback-window }} in both the policy sentence and the git log --since=... command.
3. Recompile generated workflows (make compile) so .github/workflows/gh-aw-docs-drift.lock.yml receives the same input definition and interpolated prompt text.
4. Update consumer docs/examples:
   • gh-agent-workflows/docs-drift/README.md input table to include lookback-window and default.
   • gh-agent-workflows/docs-drift/example.yml with a commented or explicit with.lookback-window example.
5. Validate with make lint (or at minimum workflow lint/validation targets) to ensure source + lock files stay consistent.
