Describe the bug

Code to reproduce:

DataFrameColumn vBufferColumn = new VBufferDataFrameColumn<int>("VBuffer", 1);
vBufferColumn[0] = null;

Fails with System.NullReferenceException: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'
