feat(phone): sheets, the drawer and the chat move like an iPhone app's - #683
Conversation
On a phone the app read as a web page: dialogs and menus appeared with no motion and could not be swiped away, the drawer slid on its own instead of following the finger, a tapped header button drew an amber box, a long press selected a button's label, and a pinch zoomed the whole interface. Every sheet (dialogs, the palette, the row sheet) now rises from the bottom, follows a finger dragged down from its head or from a list at its top, and drops however it closes; a stroke on a sheet scrolls nothing behind it. lib/sheets.ts draws a closed sheet's last frame in a closed shadow root until it has slid out, so no query of the page sees two of a sheet. The drawer stays under the finger and settles by where and how fast it is let go. Over the chat the header is glass the transcript scrolls under (only the transcript reaches under it), and the input card floats over the transcript's end. On a touch screen a press dims a button or fills a list row, chrome is not selectable and opens no callout, and the app does not zoom. Desktop is unchanged: sheets move only at 640px and below, the glass only at 768px and below, the touch rules only under hover: none and pointer: coarse. This departs from DESIGN.md's "dialogs snap" rule, so DESIGN.md says so.
On a phone, a swipe to the left that began on the dimmed area beside the open drawer left it stuck partway, and the menu button could not close it. The stroke closes the drawer before the finger lifts, which unmounted the scrim under the finger; touch events stay with the element a touch began on, so the stroke's later moves and its touchend never reached the document, and the drawer kept the inline transform the stroke had given it. The scrim now stays on the page while the drawer is closed, at no opacity and with no pointer events, and fades in and out. A stroke that still holds the drawer when the next touch begins (a second finger, or an end that never came) lets it go first, where the finger left it. Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Pinch zoom remains available on modal sheets, but the design documentation describes that behavior inaccurately and could mislead future changes. The remaining risk is bounded and does not block the current interaction. Security Architecture Review

…lick - sheets: a .modal-scrim and its sheet take touch-action pinch-zoom, not none, so two fingers begun on a sheet zoom the page (WCAG 1.4.4); useSheetSwipe lets a second finger end the drag and springs the sheet back, and moves with more than one touch are left to the browser - edgeSwipe: the stroke records its touch-down time, so a flick that lifts after one move settles by its speed instead of by position - CommandPalette: no swipe dismissal while a plugin action runs, as the busy dialogs do

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.A drag that never moved the sheet leaves
transition: noneset on it.
onMovesetstransition: noneon the sheet and the scrim, thensettlerestores the transform.settleclears the inline transition only ontransitionend. Suppose a drag returns to offset 0 before release, for example by moving down and then back up. The transform then goes fromtranslateY(0px)to""with no visual change, so notransitionendfires. The scrim also keeps its inlinetransition. The phone sheet CSS has no transition of its own here, so the visible effect is small. However, the leftoverbackground-colortransition on the scrim then affects later style changes, including thescrim-outexit. Clear the transition with a timeout fallback, asleavedoes.Proposed fix
const clear = (): void => { node.style.transition = ""; scrim.style.transition = ""; }; if (reduced) clear(); - else node.addEventListener("transitionend", clear, { once: true }); + else { + node.addEventListener("transitionend", clear, { once: true }); + window.setTimeout(clear, LEAVE_MS); + }

Correct the documented touch-action value.
Line 422 says the sheet and its scrim use touch-action: none. src/styles.css (lines 1460-1463) uses touch-action: pinch-zoom, so a pinch begun on a sheet still zooms the page. The documentation states the opposite of the shipped behavior. It also conflicts with the zoom statement at lines 1337-1338.
Proposed fix
- behind it (`touch-action: none`); the sheet's own lists still scroll and keep their overscroll.
+ behind it (`touch-action: pinch-zoom`: two fingers still zoom the page); the sheet's own lists

…e sheet devswha#683's phone sheets rise for 360ms (styles.css sheet-in), longer than the terminal's 120ms resize settle (PaneTerminal.tsx). The pane find check armed phoneGeometry after opening the More sheet, so the 320px viewport's own resize answered it while the sheet rose. The find bar's resize then reached herdr ~150ms after the Find click, while the search at pane-find-regression.ts:200 ran: its rows moved into history, the content revision changed, and the server answered 409 stale_content (CI: 409 !== 200 at :84). Await the viewport's resize first, so phoneGeometry can only be the find bar's.

Change
On a phone, the app looked and felt like a web page. Dialogs and menus appeared with no motion and could not be swiped away. The drawer slid on its own instead of following the finger. A tapped header button drew an amber box, a long press selected a button's label, and a pinch zoomed the whole interface. This makes it move and respond like an iPhone app, with the same screens and layout.
touch-action: none), but the sheet's own lists still scroll. Inlib/sheets.ts, each sheet callsuseSheetSwipe.watchSheetExits(started inmain.tsx) puts a closed scrim's last frame back as an inert.is-leavingcopy inside a closed shadow root until it has slid out, so no query of the page finds two copies of a sheet.lib/edgeSwipe.ts) and settles by how much of it shows and how fast it was let go. The scrim stays mounted while the drawer is closed (opacity: 0, no pointer events) and fades. Otherwise, a swipe begun on the scrim would unmount it mid-stroke, and the stroke'stouchendwould go with it, leaving the drawer stuck partway. A stroke that still holds the drawer when the next touch begins lets it go first.--bar-bg+--glass-blur) and the transcript scrolls under it. Only the transcript reaches under the header, so a prompt card, held messages and the composer stay below it. While nothing stands between them, the input card floats over the end of the transcript on--card-glass. The xterm mount is not fitted under the chat, so this resizes no pty.hover: noneandpointer: coarse): a press dims a button instead of drawing the amber:activebox, and a list row fills. The app's chrome is not selectable and opens no callout, while the transcript, code, files and fields still are. Pinch and double-tap do not zoom, and landscape does not inflate text.Desktop is unchanged: sheets move only at ≤640px, the glass only at ≤768px, and the touch rules apply only on touch screens.
Screenshots are from the demo build (fixture transport) at 390×844 in headless Chrome, not a live session. The drawer and sheet shots are taken mid-stroke, with the finger still down.
